Universe may have billions more stars
Astronomers have underestimated the number of galaxies in parts of the Universe by as much as 90 per cent, according to a study, suggesting billions of stars are yet to be recorded.

Map-makers may have missed the galaxies because surveys of the cosmos are based on a reading of ultraviolet light.

The study by scientists at the University of Geneva observatory, reported in the journal, Nature, says the survey method is a poor indicator of distant galaxies because the light can be blocked by clouds of dust and gas.

Matthew Hayes, who led the study, said: “Astronomers always knew they were missing some fraction of the galaxies ... but for the first time we now have a measurement. The number of missed galaxies is substantial.

"If there are 10 galaxies seen, there could be a hundred there.”
His team compared used the world's most advanced optical instrument, Europe's Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile, which has four 8.2-metre (26.65-feet) behemoths – to study the universe using two different methods.

They searched using the traditional Lyman-alpha test, named after its US discoverer, Theodore Lyman. Lyman-alpha is light released by hydrogen atoms.

Then they searched for light on different wavelength and found many more sources of energy – indicating distant galaxies – that had not been spotted using the traditional technique.

The study concluded that as much as 90 per cent of such distant galaxies may go unseen in traditional exercises.

And the Universe wants to use those stars to hurl at Earth and smite us.

The Uni, is pretty fucked up

But, but, but brain, you don't believe in GODDESS /GOD!

lol
The universe/stars/other galaxies is just reason 100 zillion that I will always believe in GOD/ GODDESS.

man has no real clue what is out there, but GOD/GODDESS does!
There is a much higher AUTHORITY in the universe than man.
I have always, always believed there is so much "out there" that we can't see, much less even fathom, even with all our fancy technology.

Other galaxies, planets, other "life forms" "other beings".
Imagine the possibilities, and it will take your breath away.

wow, I mean just wow!

We call them scientists. We like to understand the place we live in.

I think it's a good plan.

I bet in 20 years they will "discover" that it is even larger than that.

Anyway, the article just makes the absurdity of fighting over this 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent of the universe all the more ridiculous, when we could get real space flight and have infinite space, and resources.

Or I suppose we can fight over this shit forever....

I love this kind of stuff.  I've always found it interesting.  But I also find it a bit odd since we can only see the universe for what it once was.  We are always looking at ancient history.  How are we applying that history to our present time?

But I would tell anyone who is seeking "god/goddess" that It is most likely found inside ones heart, not out in space.

I prefer to say GODDESS/GOD, because IMHO it can not be proven by mere mortals
than the GODDESS/GOD is male.

The Supreme Being, could be either or both or neither.

So, I like to think of her as GODDESS/GOD.
I am not sure why so many assume GOD, when surely GODDESS may apply!!

Peace, Joy, Blessings and a big smile on my face!
Thank the GODDESS above it is Saturday!

That is a dark matter...

Seriously, we don't even know what gravity is yet--just that it is and how it seems to work.

It probably has trillions more.
"The known universe" is only what man can see or "thinks" is out there. Maybe some people think there's a brick wall at the ends of the universe with a sign saying "keep out" or something.
Scientists "estimate" that the universe is some 156 billion light years across. What then, it just "ends?"
