Personally, I've always gotten the impression that the wife wears the pants in that family...

Same here...I remember reading when they were campaigning how he was all nervous around her and on their first date he asked for permission to kiss her.

I wonder if that's changed now that he's, you know, the freaking President...but then again once a harpy always a harpy.

My god. Are you for serious? Dude asks her for permission to kiss her (assuming that's even true) and she's a harpy?

At the risk of sounding racist, the black family dynamics are different in most cases. Women hold a position of power in those familes, very matriarchal, if i remember correctly.

i see nothing wrong with this. i also believe she is an extremely intelligent woman who would not do anything to embarrass her husband. Stories are just that, stories. I have yet to see the woman step out of line.

From your source:

quote:

But no matter how much time a president actually spends away from the official residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Knoller says that the commander in chief is never really off the clock. "I have long held the view that a US president is never really on vacation," Knoller told FactCheck.org in an e-mail. "The job - and its awesome powers and responsibilities - is his wherever he is and whatever he’s doing."

Bush and Reagan often went to their ranches for "working vacations" where they were fully functional in their duties as CIC, but I don't believe that Obama's time at the beach in Hawaii is the same that way.

So you  quote an article that states pretty much that Presidents are never really on "vacation" and than proceed to dispute the very excerpt you quoted?....I'm not quite sure I will ever understand your thought processes Sanity....I'm not sure I would want to.

From the definition given to a presidential vacation... because none of them are truly off... then yes, Obama has spent less time on vacation than bush... more so than Clinton or Carter.

No matter how much you want to spin this. And trying to define it differently for different Presidents holds no water in this, Sanity. I expected more from you.

Bahahahaha! Newsweek: Sept. 19, 2005 issue - It's a standing joke among the president's top aides: who gets to deliver the bad news? Warm and hearty in public, Bush can be cold and snappish in private, and aides sometimes cringe before the displeasure of the president of the United States, or, as he is known in West Wing jargon, POTUS. The bad news on this early morning, Tuesday, Aug. 30, some 24 hours after Hurricane Katrina had ripped through New Orleans, was that the president would have to cut short his five-week vacation by a couple of days and return to Washington

Um...no...not a man at all LOL a harpy is a shrill shrieking woman, named after the mythological bird-woman creature.
ahem...please see above posts where I referranced the Jack and Cokes....yeah after I posted that and walked away a nagging thought occured to me...a little voice in my head whispering "dummy you know what a harpy is"...lol,sorry Elisabella
And now let me ask you...just what are you implying about woman who prefer their men on their knees in front of them...I find your use of the term "harpy' to be highly offensive and insulting.....and on behalf of my Domme I  am filing an official complaint![:D]

Sanity -> RE: As a Dominant or one who is interested in a Dominant (3/26/2010 9:09:29 PM)

Not to be mean but thats ridiculous. You really think thats a genetic trait among all blacks?

Think about it. Any idea how diverse the genetics among people in (or from) Africa are, or how many different cultures are over there? its the most genetically diverse continent on the planet.

And uh... besides - he's only half  black.

Actually, Bush's vacations were working vacations for the most part, and I'm pretty sure Obama's on track to take more vacation time than Bush. Check me on it, but I believe thats the case.

[...]
Okay I have to ask...why were Bush's vacations "working vacations" and why can't Obama make the same spurious claim?

Don't you know that this has absolutely nothing to do with vacations, who took them and for how long, and whether or not they were working?

This is like when a couple goes to see a marriage counselor and one complains that the other puts the toilet paper on the dispenser backwards. Do you think they are really fighting about toilet paper? No, there is something deeper going on and the toilet paper becomes a convenient outlet for their frustrations. It is no different with attitudes toward Obama. If one is predisposed to not like him for any reason, there is no shortage of toilet paper to bitch about.

Yeah that, and this quote from Michelle:
quote:

What I realize as I get older is that Michelle is less concerned about me giving her flowers than she is that I’m doing things that are hard for me…carving out time.

Which just strikes me as "suffer to prove you love me" bullshit.

And this quote from Barack:
quote:

"It is important that when I'm home to make sure that I'm present and I still forget stuff. As Michelle likes to say, 'You are a good man, but you are still a man.' I leave my socks around. I'll hang my pants on the door. I leave newspapers laying around. But she lets me know when I'm not acting right. After 14 years, she's trained me reasonably well."

And this one:
quote:

"We haven't had a lot of peace and quiet over the last four years. Michelle's always had veto power and always will, over decisions that have a direct impact on her."

Sorry but if I vote for a politician I don't vote for his wife to have veto power over the way he votes.

And this one by Michelle:
quote:

"He's always asking, 'Is that new? I haven't seen that before.' It's like, 'Why don't you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet!'"

Her closet is her business but his job is...oh yeah. Her business too.

And of course, the classic "Let's tell the world my husband's feet stink cuz I think it's funny" interview with Glamour magazine. That's ridiculous.

tazzygirl -> RE: As a Dominant or one who is interested in a Dominant (3/26/2010 9:14:34 PM)

You have issues with a strong black woman? With any strong woman? I find this rather rediculous myself. You have no working knowledge of their dynamics... not many do.

Many of the black families i know have a strong woman in charge... of the family. not the man. there is a difference.

Obviously the TP goes over the top. Duh.

So, what is your answer? Do you find Obama's presidential/management style dominant in nature? Or not so much? And, obviously, why or why not?

I never agreed to counseling.....and I certainly never got the message that you did either.

Sanity -> RE: As a Dominant or one who is interested in a Dominant (3/26/2010 9:19:38 PM)

Obama just seems aloof. Disconnected. Like he'd rather be playing at the beach or hosting Hollywood elite than getting his hands dirty as president. There are plenty of stories of people he should meet with regularly but rarely meets with, top brass in the pentagon or congressional leaders, and so on. He doesn't take the time to learn protocol, he bows when he should shake hands and so on.

It really seems to me that he vacations on his vacations, like other presidents rarely did, and he's always hosting some gala ball or waltzing off to New York to catch an opera.

I didn't mean anything disparaging by it, its just my observation.
