Snopes has the scoop on the bra burning...

http://www.snopes.com/history/american/burnbra.asp

It was actually started, the term, by a young writer for the NY Post.. who became editor for Ms., started the term herself.

Likewise, teabaggers was one of the terms they were using originally to self identify themselves.  Early on they learned the alternate meaning and they changed to teapartiers.  Since it's so much fun to call them teabaggers the name stuck with everyone giggling at them and pointing fingers at the fact that they are embracing the unhinged crazies.

No, just someone who remembers history, it's actually quite easy to find documentation of the fact that you are wrong in your recollection of recent history.

The first big day for this movement was Tax Day, April 15. And organizers had a gimmick. They asked people to send a tea bag to the Oval Office. One of the exhortations was “Tea Bag the Fools in D.C.” A protester was spotted with a sign saying, “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You.” So, conservatives started it: started with this terminology. But others ran with it and ran with it.

Sanity makes up his own history - usually predicated on the axiom that whatever it is, liberals did it first - and completely disregards anyone else's recollections or links.

Of course there's a hard left here, don't be ridiculous. Every conceivable part of the political spectrum has its followers here! But the majority of Americans lean right, and those who lean left are fringe elements. The hard left, as represented by Pelosi, Reid, and Obama, are on the far fringes.

Which is precisely why they are plummeting in all the major polls the way they are, they're shedding their moderate masks and governing more towards the hard left than people expected they would.

Ridiculous would be calling Obama hard left, I doubt he would come under that heading anywhere but in America.

...so you want your cake and to eat it too.

On the one hand you and i can agree that the US political spectrum is skewed to the right as compared to pretty much all of Europe and a host of other major powers. Thus where other countries have left and right wing parties, you in the US have centrist and right wing parties. A view you have already agreed with in this very thread.
However, you seemed to get cold feet over that sensible and obviously accurate perception because that would mean you wouldn't be able to call those democrats you disagree with socialists anymore. Pelosi, Reid and Obama are basically social democrats, not left wingers. Your republican party is pretty much synonymous with traditional conservative parties the world over.
The US political spectrum is thus much more narrow than the spectrum found is pretty much the rest of the world. Now, i don't have a problem with that per se.......but your flip flopping on this issue is not the most edfiying spectacle i've ever seen.

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 3:48:09 PM)

They didn't identify themselves as "Tea Baggers" as you said in your previous post. Its possible that there may be a quote wherin one did, but for you to say or suggest as you do that they all did is a lie, and it only serves to lower the level of political discourse here.

The term has been spread by MSNBC and other far left shills who are obviously extremely fearful of the movement, and it was never a term that Tea Partiers ever commonly called themselves.

Thats pure bullshit, as I said before a lie.

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 3:52:17 PM)

No, you misstate what I am pointing out. The far left exists here as it does everywhere but it exists only as the fringe minority.

A fringe minority who at the moment temporarily holds the reigns of power.

And the links support that. Quit making up shit that people never said.

No one misstates what you are pointing out, Phil and I are clearly saying that to call Obama far left is incorrect. As for him being a fringe minority, I thought you didnt win the election unless you were the majority.

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 3:59:30 PM)

After watching several videos of the "Reverend" Jeremiah Wright's sermons, the same Jeremiah Wright who was the Obama family's 'spiritual advisor' for over twenty years, I am very confident in my assertion that Barack Obama is on the far left fringes here or anywhere.

There are a lot of other substantive indicators that Barack Obama is no where near moderate as well, but I'm sure you've seen them discussed before, you just choose to reject that reality and so really there is little point in trying to reason with someone who is as determined to deny reality as you and many who share your mindset obviously are.

My mother's priest is a retired nuclear physicist. If you spend 3 or 4 hours listening to him talk about his background, are you going to conclude that my mother is a nuclear physicist?

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 4:03:32 PM)

As I wrote earlier, a lie. THEY never referred to themselves as teabaggers. One or two out of millions of them may have, but collectively they have always known themselves as the Tea Party.

But as true believers will, believe what you feel you must.

You need to check my posts more Sanity, I have long made the case in support of Thatcher, so I am hardly left leaning. And as someone who votes to the right, I am telling you that in Europe you would be laughed at for calling Obama hard left.

Love the irony of you not wanting to talk to people who deny reality.

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 4:08:42 PM)

As far as winning the majority goes, Obama campaigned as a centrist or even right of center on some things (most notably the deficits). But with his moves Left since assuming office and with the way he lets his centrist mask slip at the most inconvenient times his poll numbers have steadily declined, and very noticeably too.

Okay then, whats your excuse for refusing to account for Obama's associates who have radical or even terrorist pasts? The cabinet or Czar appointments who praise Mao? Or the many other direct indicators that Obama is hard left.

I'm amazed he decided to bring up priest/minister/etc types that political figures have visited in the past... Does this... (jump to about 7:00 if you can't take listening to him for the first 7 minutes, be sure to watch till 8:30ish when he starts invoking protection from whitchcraft) make Palin a witchhunter anime character?
