After watching several videos of the "Reverend" Jeremiah Wright's sermons, the same Jeremiah Wright who was the Obama family's 'spiritual advisor' for over twenty years, I am very confident in my assertion that Barack Obama is on the far left fringes here or anywhere.

My mother's priest is a retired nuclear physicist. If you spend 3 or 4 hours listening to him talk about his background, are you going to conclude that my mother is a nuclear physicist?

I'm amazed he decided to bring up priest/minister/etc types that political figures have visited in the past... Does this... (jump to about 7:00 if you can't take listening to him for the first 7 minutes, be sure to watch till 8:30ish when he starts invoking protection from whitchcraft) make Palin a witchhunter anime character?
edit:fixed link

Good thinking, and good find.

OK, Obama's a Marxist, and Palin's a religious lunatic who believes in witches. I'd say we come out ahead.

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 4:23:19 PM)

I don't know about your mother but Obama dragged his wife and kids to listen to a man who preached a unique brand of far left hate for over twenty years. It doesn't exactly take your mothers preacher to figure out that he must have felt a connection there.

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 4:25:11 PM)

The best kind of thinking that you guys seem to have have is, "Quick, change the subject. Someone mention Palin, or Bush..."

Okay then, whats your excuse for refusing to account for Obama's associates who have radical or even terrorist pasts? The cabinet or Czar appointments who praise Mao? Or the many other direct indicators that Obama is hard left.

So by your logic George Bush is hard left for having Tony Blair as a friend and associate, given Blairs left wing background ?

I believe in witches too. I know some. In fact, some might consider me one.

Once a person reaches a point where they believe in a 'higher power' it's only a slight jump to believe that power can be tapped into.

ETA: I just watched that clip...it's incredibly ritualistic. Many witches ask (pray) rather than command and that priest invoked the spirit more times than I ever did in any one ritual.

But then I suppose it would take a witch to protect you from another witch.

Sanity -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 5:01:15 PM)

Or you could say Blair was a rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth fanatical right wing extremist, for daring to hang out with the likes of GW I suppose.

Birds of a feather, and all that.

Snopes has the scoop on the bra burning...

http://www.snopes.com/history/american/burnbra.asp

It was actually started, the term, by a young writer for the NY Post.. who became editor for Ms., started the term herself.

Likewise, teabaggers was one of the terms they were using originally to self identify themselves.  Early on they learned the alternate meaning and they changed to teapartiers.  Since it's so much fun to call them teabaggers the name stuck with everyone giggling at them and pointing fingers at the fact that they are embracing the unhinged crazies.

Lets be realistic. They were using it themselves... yet no one.. among all the closet homosexuals within the conservative party, knew what teabagger meant? Once you label yourself with something like that, who is going to change that?

i personally know the term has a few definitions. the party defined themselves. then were whining about the definition. lol... sorry, i just find that hilarious!

Sure, and there's nothing wrong with that. But then again, you're not running for president. If you were, it would raise serious questions about your credibility in the eyes of a lot of voters.

Unless the only Gods who I publicly invoked blessings from were either the God YHWH or his son Jesus.

Though I might sneak a little prayer in for Mithras while we're at war...but only on Christmas [;)]

If he were to use the term in public and a Tea Partier heard him use it that way he would likely receive a proper education.

they come out in droves to listen to Palin speak...This is how "tea baggers" receive an enlightened and proper education.

Watching Palin give a speech is painful.

If she would undress while delivering her speech, that would ease things.

Or maybe wrestle with Mrs McCain.

Oh no... -this- is how the tea baggers receive an elightened and proper education... or maybe that's just the result.  Pardon me, I'll be off in the corner trying not to snicker too hard over the fact that it's not an act.

Aneirin -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 7:33:13 PM)

From what I understand, Obama is the president of the United States of America he was voted into office by the majority, so, like it or not, he is in power and whatever he might have been and has now become, he  is in power until another is voted in to replace him, so for the US, it is basically like it or lump it.

Musicmystery -> RE: Nomenclature ? (3/28/2010 7:37:07 PM)

Of course there's a hard left here, don't be ridiculous. Every conceivable part of the political spectrum has its followers here! But the majority of Americans lean right, and those who lean left are fringe elements. The hard left, as represented by Pelosi, Reid, and Obama, are on the far fringes.

LOL! That's one of the funnier jokes I've heard recently! Keep up the good work! [:D]

Yep - in fact that would make Bush left of Obama! The Labour Party's an actual self-avowed socialist party, and far to the left of the Democrats.

And yet you didn't hear conservatives in the US railing on Blair for supporting an actual socialist, government-run healthcare system, or a much larger welfare state and much more nationalization than anything this administration's ever proposed. It's glaringly obvious when you look at international politics how totally centrist and mainline Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are.

When the movement started, even Fox News referred to them as teabaggers.  The members of the movement referred to themselves as teabaggers.  When the snickering started, they changed to tea partiers.

Its an epithet, much like a racial epithet, and as such it shouldn't be expected that it will always be met with grace and patience.
