During last year's Earth Hour, the neighborhood had three houses vandalized, two of which were attempted break-ins into foreclosed homes. Those homes are still empty and needing repairs from those attempts (yet the banks, or whoever, that own them haven't stepped up to take care of them). With three times as many homes now empty because of foreclosure around here, there is no way anyone in the neighborhood is turning off lights. It's safe to say that, instead, additional floodlights will be burning bright this year. The idea behind Earth Hour has a nice, warm fuzzy feeling to it all but it's too much of a safety risk and not worth that fuzzy feeling in many places. Sorry folks, but as long as thieves, vandals, and hooligans exist and don't give too hoots about the planet, Earth Hour moments just don't happen around here.
