Because Greenwich is where the Royal Navy determined it should be.

We may not rule the waves any more, but Britannia sets your timezones! (cue evil cackle)

Gordon Brown is the bleeding antichrist?

And they'll be running in the opposite direction as fast as their lil feetsies'll allow [:D]

Now, IF this should occur at 11:59:59 of the 20th, I won't have to do my Christmas shopping early. OOOO NM I never start til the 24th anyways, why would I start early?

If "they" = those at the top of the food chain, and you mean running in the opposite direction of catastrophe... then I agree... :-)

"they" meaning the ones who are watching the ones at the top of the food chain. I doubt they'd be sticking around. LOL. And i would surely hope those at the top of the food chain would have escaped at least a good month in advance. Why else have all the underground shelters that the "unwashed masses" won't be allowed into. We're on our own, TAKE OVER THE SHELTERS BEFORE THE POLITICOS GET THERE. [:D][:D][&:]

I want to live, I want to live!! [:o]

That's an interesting problem for the Antarctic research crews...they tend to set their clocks to the time of their support organizations.  It's pretty arbitrary at the poles.

Always an interesting question that - what time is it at the south and north poles? This is where the timelines we use converge, so it must be everytime or no time. From that, if anything bad is to happen in 2012, the poles are the place to be, since it wont be any year and at the same time every year there.

LadyEllen -> RE: 2012 (4/1/2010 4:18:38 AM)

The question came up on QI (BBC1) TH - apparently there is a separate Antarctic time zone used? How that should be much advantage when people are so separated from one another down there and its only ever night, dawn, day or dusk I dont know.
