If the guy was travelling on the Haj and knew that was acknowledged as an occultist then he was asking for it.
Saudi is an independent state, if they want laws like this then it's their business.

Strange how that line doesn't seem to work for Iran or Korea, though.

Pretty simple point, which I'm surprised wasn't clear: those are both independent states where your country's government feels that their laws are their business to complain about. It seems weird that these "let them do what they want" non interventionist values aren't applied in every case, jut in those where the countries in question don't have anything America wants...

Ah! my apologies. I thought that was what you meant but I think my brain was a little coddled last night!

The Saudis certainly have something the American and English governments want! The difference is that Saudi Arabia is ruled by a puppet government, a bit like Iraq is since the so called 'axis of evil' was destroyed!
The Western world don't see Saudi Arabia as a problem. That's not so with Iran and North Korea but then that's a whole other topic.

Look at this http://www.collateralmurder.com/ to see there is not really a difference between the USA and the ''medievals'' portrayed in this thread. A few years ago a Dutch citizen was arrested by the Americans in the Netherlands (!) and brought to the USA, which caused quite a stir in my country, and what about Gitmo and the secret American torture camps in Europe Obama did not promise to close. Bush even changed the constitution to make it legal to invade the Netherlands as soon as an American citizen faces trial for war crime charges in Den Haag (The Hague). Obama promised to undo this but it is still there.
