And what is exactly so wrong about either?

Not a thing, if you're completely insensitive to mocking someone else's faith.

And a big [sm=bowdown.gif] to you too, LadyPact! [:)]

I know LP - I just get a little bored of the repetitiveness of it all over there, you know? Apart from the posts that make me laugh or gag! Nice to be missed though, thanks!

What is your problem, Muse? Yes, the cartoon is a mockery of something taken seriously by a great many people. So what? Now if the thread had been titled "Rejoice, for He is risen," I can see where a few easily offended sorts might have felt their eyes had been ambushed, but that didn't happen.

I thought it was funny (in a horribly wrong, go straight to hell sort of way), and appreciate it being shared.

Jesus Christ, man, do we need to pass the hat to rent you a hooker or what?

For the slow of learning...

What an asshole.

This is completely inappropriate. To show your friends for a laugh? Sure. To so cavalierly stick such a stick in the eye of the many who revere this day as the heart of their spirituality is uncalled for and immature.

Yes, I'm an atheist too. And yes, much of what happens in the name of Christianity is messed up. But hardly all. Get a clue.

A happy and joyous Easter to all.

Sanguinarian -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 9:28:30 AM)

That was in very bad form. Jesus was a messiah ( or martyr, depending on one's views ) He did what he did for a reason. This is insulting to Jesus, I think, more than the faith. The faith is what people make it, but it is a lodestone from which many people take direction. To give insult like this is disgusting rather than funny.

I dislike the Christian religion, I'm a witch, and if I am thinking this.... yeah, pretty bad.

On a day some consider holy, a thread is started wishing a happy day with a sprinkle of mockery towards those who believe. and you feel this is ok? he has his right to post it. i have my right to voice my objection.

as my mom used to say about clothes... just because they make it in your size doesnt mean you should wear it. this is the same thing. if it had been posted in the Humor section, i could, possibly, see the joke. It was posted in this section, instead. This was not intended as a joke, but a statement against a particular religion.

After your serving, Domi, it's no surprise that the tradition of Easter ham and hard boiled eggs came to be.  The man must have been starving after the little appetizer you offered.

The King of Kings ate my brain off of a toothpick. I be slow.

Jeffff -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 10:10:12 AM)

Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine
meltin' in a pot of thieves
wild card up my sleeve
thick heart of stone
my sins my own
they belong to me, me

people say "beware!"
but I don't care
the words are just
rules and regulations to me, me

A happy and joyous Easter to all.

Many Atheist groups held Zombieaster Parties this weekend. Mine did. They dressed as zombies then partied downtown until the wee hours of the morning. I chose not to attend last night as I don't believe that mocking Christians helps our cause. Many members of our local group didn't see it that way. They believed that they were just celebrating their lack of belief, which they have every right to do. In a very conservative state such as Texas, I questioned the wisdom of such actions.

Tonight the group is going to see a documentary on the life of Charles Darwin at the local indy theater. I intend to go. Several Christians always show up at our scheduled events and try to convert us. It never fails. Tolerance goes both ways, but public ridicule is where I draw my line.

It's a hell of an excuse for thinking--mere reaction and rejection kicks in at age two.

Nor do I see any atheist "cause." Texas is a scary place.

Hmmm, this thread has developed in interesting and mystical ways, proving to me once again that there are mysterious unseen powers afoot in this world, even on this board.

So to cover my ass, Happy Easter from an atheist! Hope you all got plenty of chocolate eggies this morning.

sappatoti -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 11:27:06 AM)

All along I thought this was the hallowed Thor...

Such an insightful being s/he/it is, or was, too. Oh well.

Atheists are just as diverse a group as Christians, and the sentiments I stated above are not exclusive to Texas. As I said, many Atheist groups in most major cities held Zombieaster parties. This has become a tradition of sorts.

As for an atheist "cause", many of us believe the world would be a better place if people were less religious. Count me among that ilk. As a group we differ on how to achieve that goal. I prefer "quiet" activism and education, and others are more "in your face." I think the Zombie parties qualified as the later.

Honsoku -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 11:32:06 AM)

¬fr¬

Look all, the title of the thread is "Happy Zombie Jesus Day" for crying out loud. It's obvious that it's not going to be a reverential posting. So to then read the thread and then get offended by it, is simply looking to be offended. Either every subject is okay to poke fun at or no subject is okay, because any joke is bound to offend someone.
