LadyEllen -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 4:54:46 PM)

Jesus either died or didnt die.

On the one hand it was the Romans executing him and they knew how to go about killing someone, even and especially by way of crucifixion.

On the other hand, the whole idea of crucifixion is that it takes days not hours to die. Jesus apparently lasted less than a day. Also on the other hand, whats with this "vinegar" he's given, immediately after which he apparently dies. Also on the other hand, whats with the rather odd burial ritual that ensues - apparently of a fashion and with accoutrements quite unknown to 1st century Judea, except in terms of medical treatments?

Also on the other hand, whats with the wholesale copying of the mystery cult format that had been prevalent throughout the Roman world for centuries prior and some time after Jesus?

On balance, my conclusion is he didnt die - it was a staged event designed to fulfil a Jewish version of the common Mediterranean mystery cult and possibly as such, staged by....................... the Romans themselves......... as a means of undermining the indomitable monotheism of those awkward Jews, but it didnt work out at the time and the upshot was a few centuries of the Romans trying to distance themselves from it all before seizing the initiative back and making it the state religion as one of a multiple choice arrangement from the various cults around at the time.

None of the above matters though. Its not a matter of proof, science or rationality - its a matter of faith. If you truly believe he died for your sins then its all good.

E

It all comes down to the Jews.

First they faked Jesus death. Then they caused the Black Plague.

Next thing ya know, they are fucking with the Germans and going all Zionist on everyone

Happy Easter!

Only thing I can say about this thread. Jesus has been sucessfully eating his follower's brains for over 2,000 years now. He's certainly the King of SOMETHING.

This thread was worth opening for the venn diagram.

The Jews have been directly responsible for the Cubs never winning a World Series for over a hundred Years.

They killed Christ, they faked the holocaust, they dictate every single move that transpires in music, on television or in the banking world.

But why the Cubs? What did they ever do to deserve this?

Aneirin -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 5:54:12 PM)

Some may know me here as a non christian and sometimes an eclectic pagan, ( only this because I have yet to find anything that sits comfortably with my own values), but on opening this thread expecting to be confronted with something related to this holday, I was shocked to see the cartoon as it was, I immediately felt it was in basd taste and provoking. But on reflection of that thought, I felt yeah, I don't like it, but it is not for me to decide how others see the event, be they believers or not, for we are supposedly in a free society where freedom of expression is allowed, anything less, would be heralding difficult times to come and similarity with those the US and parts of the UK see as the devil incarnate.

I still however find the cartoon distasteful and likening the event to Zombies is like likening the event to something from a horror story. Now I understand for those who have been brought under control of the church, it might be akin to a horror story, but in the world we live, our world, the tolerant west, the event is seen as something less horrific.

I for one certainly do not believe the easter story, for me, it is full of gaping holes, but I accept the believers believe, and as long as they cause no violence to others, non believers amongst them, I personally have no problem.

There is one more option (which is given below this next quote.)

Depends there sappatoti, the book says he died.  So if you follow the book you would have to take as truth the fact that he died and arose.

By "the book", I'm guessing you mean "The Bible."  "The Bible" also tells us that Jesus was born...... The other option to "He died or didn't" is that he wasn't born. There is not one shred of evidence (outside the bible) that supports his being an historical figure, by which I mean non-fictional.

I like the Thor reference.  When  asked "How can you not belive in something?"  I reply, "Do you believe in Ra?" And when they reply, "No." I continue with Thor, Zeus, and so on.  Then I say "I simply believe in one less god than you do."

Things are "coming around" to a more rational, materialistic view of the world:
Please read the short, short easy in this link.  It starts with "I believe that there is no God. I'm beyond atheism."

Freedom of speech, yes.

Choosing not to read this thread? Yes!

takemeforyourown -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 7:00:28 PM)

Seriously? If you're a Christian, you are rather naive if you imagine a Zombie Jesus thread has anything to do with Christianity. I don't feel sorry for Christians who are offended by this thread. You shouldn't have read it.

Smutmonger -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 7:05:11 PM)

Lance. There is less social pressure to believe in the Christian god as the default as we mature in western cultures. I only identify as athiest these days to keep theists from thinking I approve of thier choices.

Oh really? Since when does the truth or rationality of what one believes not matter? At what point does it not become "all good?" Faith can be kinda tricky that way.

takemeforyourown -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 7:18:15 PM)

Because faith, for the faithful, transcends rationality.

Rich, I'm going to give you some time to think about whether this was really what you meant before I begin making fun of you.

I'll give you hint - just because we can say something, should we?

As I was trying to point out to Lady E, it also at times transcends compassion, tolerance, and human decency. It's a slippery slope once we first abandon reason.

They live on the north side, that's reason enough.

Tell you what, Brainia, I'll give you a little time to utilize the search feature this board offers to go looking for my oft-stated positions on free speech (I'm a real pain in the ass on the subject). We are all free to draw our determinations about the OP of this thread, as we are free to draw conclusions about how anybody chooses to use such a rare and precious thing.

I'm pretty sure that where I think the edges are, is way outside your comfort zone.

tazzygirl -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day (4/4/2010 8:12:45 PM)

rule

1) I have never forced any beliefs on anyone.

2) I have yet to see a thread started in favor of religion.

3) Two wrongs dont make a right. Belittling someone for their beliefs, then stating... dont force yours on me... pot calling the kettle black.

4) Easter has long since lost its religious meaning, at least in the US. Its not like Christmas, commercialized to the point of pain, its icons being more about a bunny and eggs than a figure of a man.

Look all, the title of the thread is "Happy Zombie Jesus Day" for crying out loud. It's obvious that it's not going to be a reverential posting. So to then read the thread and then get offended by it, is simply looking to be offended. Either every subject is okay to poke fun at or no subject is okay, because any joke is bound to offend someone.

So what you are saying is that if i am offended, i should shut up and just take it.

Um... nope... but thank you for playing "lets stifle the voices".

How about if I am offended by the beliefs forced on me as an unbeliever?
