Status: offline 		We're looking for a new mattress. Sir wants memory foam. I liked the Tempurpedic Rhapsody when we went to the store, but the $$$$$$ is prohibitive.

Select-a-bed has one for much less. Is it as good?

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has a memory foam bed. Pros, cons, opinions, etc.

Is it too hot? Is rolling over difficult? How is it for sex?

We've read supposed "consumer" reviews online, but I don't believe they aren't placed by the PR departments of the companies.

Please help!

Status: offline 		OK- one thing to consider is the amount of springs.

One of my beds is a pillow bed- and I now know they do not last as long - cos you cant flip em.

I had one - and came to hate the size. even with big rooms.

Status: offline 		Memory foam is great if you ALWAYS sleep on your back. But it really sucks if you ever shift position, and god help you if you like to sleep face down. I got rid of mine as fast as possible. My 2 cents.

Status: offline 		My parents have one and my dad said the bed made him much hotter at night, which made it harder to sleep. I've been on it a few times when I was sitting down to talk to my mom for long periods of time and have laid in it, on hot days when the temps got so bad not having ac was murder on me and she offered me refuge in her room. I didn't see it as making it to hot to sleep, but I see no great difference in the memory foam bed and my regular bed.  In fact I kind of think the memory foam holds depressions while mine don't.

Status: offline 		I have a basic temperpedic (sp?) and I can make it soft or firm. The advantage is that you both can select what type of setting you want. The cost is high for this bed. The bad part is that you cannot flip the mattress.

I know somebody that has a expensive foam mattress and loves it. I hear that it does get hot to sleep on. I read that somewhere. I believe that one you can flip.

I think the best thing is to go to a mattress store and try out the different mattresses for at least 15 to 30 minutes each. This is what I did.

When I went to the Temperpedic store they analyzed my back on a bed to see what I would need as far as setting goes.

Some people find a good bed when they go to a Hotel and find a comfortable bed to sleep in. I had that happen recently on a trip and meant to check and see who made the bed. I figured out that my bed was too firm as my back would hurt when I got out of bed. I made it softer and found that my back doesn't hurt.

Status: offline 		I have a Tempurpedic, the medium thickness. I've had it for about 5 years. You really can have a drink there in bed next to the laptop.. lol..
It's the best sleeping bed I've ever had. It does get warm at night, but I always get warm at night, and always have.
It was very expensive, but well worth it I beleive.
It's great if one of you gets up a lot. no noices, no squeaking..no movement of the bed at all.
I can't imagine being able to flip it myself, it is extremely heavy and cumbersome. I couldn't move it from one room to another by myself when the floors were being put in.

~edit to add: rolling over is no problem, and it's great for sex, very solid feeling.. but also soft and pliant.

I say tempur-pedic. Haven't tried the other one.
If you can afford it..Don't squeeze the cash..A good bed is worth it.

Never thought much about a bed till I spent some time at my brothers and I slept on his old mattress in the spare room..After about the third day I was waking up early without the alarm feeling completely refreshed.

Status: offline 		I had a memory foam mattress and found in the summer I had a hard time sleeping because of the heat, I also found that it was very difficult to move out of position in the morning, I had to roll out of bed, memory foam is a bit like gravity it sucks. And if you are overweight as my husband is, it can be extremely difficult to move in bed at all.

However I know people with medical problems such as arthritis who swear by them, it does cushion the bones of the body very well, sadly it’s an expensive type of try it and see as with memory foam it’s purely an individual thing and you never know until you try.

Never had one, but my brother in-law did and he says,,,

Is it too hot?
Only in the summer, for some weird reason in the winter you freeze your ass off

Is rolling over difficult?
He said moving at all was difficult and the longer you laid there, the worse it got.

How is it for sex?
We didn't actually discuss this aspect, sorry

Not sure if this will help or not, he is the only person I know who had one. But he truly hated it.

Status: offline 		The cost of the memory foam mattress was too high for me and not know if it would work for me. I have a very difficult time with all furniture. The one bed I was okay with was a Denver Mattress, Doctor's Choice, which is renamed. I loved that bed and would feel like saying 'heaven' when I laid down on it. All Serta's or Sealy's would feel good for a bit and then I was uncomfortable again. But I do have special issues.

I decided to get a memory foam topper for an older bed when I joined my former submissive. At first it was hard to get used to and we thought that the four inches was a bit too much. What matters with the memory foam and different makers is the density. I know I will get the info backwards if I try to explain it, so I would suggest doing what I did. Go to overstock.com and look up mattress toppers. They have a video that explains it. You can also see comments from users of the toppers. While they aren't a full mattress, you can get an idea of what the memory foam might be like to some degree.

After sleeping and actually sleeping for the first time in many, many years and using it for the last three years, I would buy a memory foam mattress. I have hot flashes and believe me wouldn't care for extra heat. I have had no problems with it at all. I sleep deeper and longer than I ever have. The one problem is that I should move every twenty minutes and don't on the memory foam, which helps my sleep but I wake up a bit more achy because I haven't moved. But it works out as soon as I get moving around.

At first we seemed to sink in and would have to lift our bodies to move, but after an adjustment time... none of those issues. I wouldn't trade it for anything and plan to get one for my son and another for my bed. Plus I found memory foam pillows that are flat and absolutely love them! They aren't the same quality of the toppers or mattress's, but they are wonderful!

They are also making some of the topper's and mattress's with an added something that helps with the heat if it is a problem for you and you could get one that minimizes that.

Status: offline 		One thing I do not like about the Tempurpedic is that it has a hose for the air to go into the mattress and you cannot put a protective cover on it.
You cannot get the cover to close. Should have a cover on it for the bedbugs etc. It is the same things as putting pillow protectors on your pillows.

Status: offline 		I recommend either a soft air mattress or an Indian hammock.

An air mattress is very cheap, but will smell initially (air it outside for a couple of days) and if inflated at too high a pressure it may snap a leak and have to be replaced.

An Indian hammock is more expensive, does not smell, is single person only, has the size of a two person horizontal bed when slept in properly, and can be easily rolled up and put in a washing machine. (Try rolling up a mattress and putting it in a washing machine.)

I have experience with an air mattress. I do not have experience with an Indian hammock, but a former friend has slept for fifty years in such a hammock and I have once seen him use it.

I have no experience with memory foam.
