I enjoy a nice wine and I will drink most varieties, but I much prefer champagne.  I like the sweetness of it as much as anything.

However, I will still take a fine imported beer over wine any day.  I did, though, discover a new favorite over My Stella and Tyskie.  Rickards Red.  Ohhh boy is that ever a yummy beer.

I am curious.  Why do people have to respond with "I do not drink wine"?  That is rather retarded, no?  Would it not be better to just not say anything at all?

re: Merlot,

It is funny, while I do enjoy my french red wines such as the Beaujalais and Chateneauf de Pape, my wife and I have discovered what we refer to as manufactured wine. Our favorite is a Blackberry Merlot made by Wild Vines.While I really know that this is nothing more than high volume processed wine it really does taste pretty good sitting in front of the fireplace with some cheese and fruit.

You didn't think it was retarded when Dracula said it; did you?

Hey, how you feelin' buddy?  I hope things are going ever so much better.

Things are improving daily Ron, thank you.  There are still some kinks to work out, but overall not bad at all.  It even looks like we are close to a reconciliation at this point.  [:)]

Thanks for the response, Emperor.  That was fun to read.

Since it's summer, I tend to like my light whites....Duckhorn or Ferrari Carrano Sauvignon Blanc, or Murphy Goode Reserve Fume Blanc.   Most Pinot Grigios are pretty good, and I have taken a liking for Cooper Creek Reisling lately.

For a splurge, Cakebread Chardonnay is great, as is Saintsbury Pinot Noir Reserve for a red.

Not much of a wine drinker, but I reckon I like a white zinfendel so long as it is not too fruity.

As for beer ;)

Guinness, Beck's Dark, Harp, Pete's Wicked Lager ... some others ... but must be decent!

White zinfandel is the Coors light of the wine world...bleah.

emek -> RE: Wine (7/10/2006 6:25:07 AM)

LadyJulieAnn -> RE: Wine (11/27/2006 4:13:23 PM)

I love Cavit's Pinot Noir when I drink red and Pinot Grigio when I drink white.

What is you favorite wine to drink?[:)]

Erath Vineyards.  Any year (86 - 89, better).  Pinot.  Oregon.

(It's a good thang).

justheather -> RE: Wine (11/27/2006 8:26:21 PM)

Im a fan of a couple of red table wines (proprietary blends) from CA...they are Marietta, Old Vine Red (now at Lot # 40) and The Broken Road (2004) from Ten Mile Vineyard.
Both are around twelve bucks a bottle and an excellent value.

If someone wanted to make me swoon, Id recommend showing up with a bottle of 1998 Opus One.

By the way, I'd like to revisit this pleasant thread to ask a question that's always bothered me: what exactly is the attraction of Merlot?  I've always thought of it as the 42nd-Street hooker of red wines: cheap, aggressive, and doesn't age well.  But lately snobs seem to make a point of saying that they drink Merlot.  Am I missing something?

I wonder if you are thinking of Muscatel.
I find Merlot to be a little bit flat for my palate but it was the first red wine I ever enjoyed, in my twenties when I was all about the whites.

Are you just a tease?  That's a very nice bottle of wine.  Did some paramour bring it for you?   But....unless you have good cellaring conditions, you need to drink it soon.  I'll be in New Jersey in February....*GRIN*
