Perhaps the content of the commentary will prove instructive.

Certainly it's an issue when people complain about Obama reducing nuclear arms (which is actually just reaffirming a 2000 treaty).

pahb,

Here's a poll for you. Choose one of the options below:

1) Read the piece (or listen to it) so that you have a clue what it's about. Then you may comment if you wish.
2) Shut the fuck up and move on to another thread.

Thank you.

One of the things that has bot herd Me for a while now is that while I  have to remove my shoes and give up my shampoo at O'Hare, less than 2% of the freight coming onto this country is inspected.

Every day thousands of cargo containers just roll right in. If I dwell on that, it scares me.

Many of enemies, the people who hate us, have placed a greater value on the next life than on this one.

MM. I was under the impression that the treaty on plutonium stockpiles was agreed back in 2000. This was halted by the Bush government who didnt agree with the verification procedures, due to cost.

The missile reductions are new, although a continuation of the start agreement.

Here's the irony.

Folks are concerned that we have nukes for deterrent. But nation-states aren't the risk anymore.

Yet we maintain rhetoric and policy as if we are still in the cold war. It's a dangerous delusion.

Pahunk, for what its worth i think the main danger of nuclear war will still come from Russia or China, unlike Iran they both have the capabilities. There is also a danger of a nuclear attack by terrorists, i think this would more likely be in terms of a suitcase bomb, or something like that.

...there are not really nations left in the traditional sense.

not with WTO- GATT- and the like.

What will worry solve- it aint like the grid is gonna listen to yous.   No.  The grid eats and consumes war-- and soon it will all be on drones- connected to your front door.

This is all fine and dandy as long as my backyard is not turned into a nuclear waste storage site. From what I understood we have offered to take the waste from Europe and Russia and store it here.

One of the very big drawbacks of nuclear power is the radioactive waste and its half-life. It is dangerous and expensive to store and I wonder if we are going to be compensated for doing it?

And do we want such dangerous materials concentrated in our country for thousands of years.

Would it not be better to stop nuclear power production until new technologies for productions and disposal of waste is developed?

Butch

Following your logic PA, the nation states have no interest in a nuclear war. It would fuck up there business.

Allah, and Jesus, don't DO business.

They welcome you to a well earned eternity.

No---we will continue what we've been doing, reprocessing it for use in nuclear power plants.
