Vince I am not against this proposal...but neither do I want us to absorb the cost alone. If these nations want to store their waste in the US they should pay for it and we should demand they do. I don't know what the cost structure is, Butch. It may be we would off-set the cost by the electricity we produce. But, I have wondered why Russia cannot downblend their own. Maybe someone can explain that to me. Yes, no commercial reprocessing is occuring now but military reprocessing is. In the best of all possible worlds wind and solar would be our exclusive source of energy for conversion to electricity but long term problems remain before that can happen, not the least of which is efficiency lost in transmission from the wind and solar belts to the East coast and northern tier States; inadequate storage technology; and huge amounts of land space required. Furthermore, does anyone know how electricity will provide the power needed to fly commercial and military aircraft and drive civilian automobiles and commercial trucks over great distances? Do the alternative energy people envision a world ultimately dependent on trolly cars and high speed rail with no one permitted (by law or cost) to own an automobile? What is the vision for the future, I wonder. Vince I think Obama wants the waste here for safe keeping and has offered that option to the nuclear powers...it has nothing to do with reprocessing except that to show the waste is dangerous which was my point. I think the technology for solar and wind power is very good today...much better than nuclear. Remember solar could mean every roof in America...imagine the jobs this would create...and the power put back into the existing grid would be tremendous. If you lowered the demand for oil there would still be enough for aircraft and the like. Personal vehicles could use any of the new technologies in electric or hydrogen fuel cells. Imagine the jobs the conversion would fuel. Butch
