Marc2b -> Iceland Volcano and the Grounding of European Flights (4/15/2010 1:43:10 PM)

For those who haven't heard:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_iceland_volcano

My mother and sister are in Amsterdam right now (they are, ironically, the two people in my family least able to appreciate Amsterdam's... shall we say... unique?... culture). I'm not worried about them (they are smart women who can take care of theirselves) but this might delay their return on Sunday.

I admit that I will be a little more nervous than usual when they do fly back.

Anyone else affected by this? How are our European CM friends doing right now?

I was shopping in Iceland and when I paid by debit card they asked me if I wanted some ash back.

Well I'll bet you just erupted at that.

What can you expect? It's the lava-ish lifestyle.

We have it landing in scotland at the moment...(apparently).
I blame it on Sam Winchester.

Boy, that would suck, to be forced to spend extra time in Amsterdam [8|]  lol

I have been visiting with a friend in Iceland. She is in the capital so largely unaffected, even by ash. But it sounds like a nasty mess for some.

It's good to see they are keeping a sense of humor about it - but sometimes, that's all you can do.

Yeah... I wouldn't mind it at all, but like I said, they are the two people in my family least able to appreciate it. They're just there to look at flowers and paintings. Now me?, I would spend some time looking at the flowers and paintings.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think I'd probably spend a lot of time looking at the flowers and paintings. [8D]

On the plus side the northern hemisphere should get some spectacular sunsets. When I was a kid living in New Zealand, everytime Australia went up in flames, the ash in the air made for beautiful sunsets. [:)]

And as a result it will cause global cooling.

I am just waiting for when the ash appears for sale on ebay

It should be white asparagus season still. I'd spend my time eating.

i have some friends in London who need to travel for business that it's really affecting. The thing that makes me nervous is the last time this volcano erupted, it erupted for over a year.....the White Star line might need to start building ocean liners again, hee hee! [8D]

Aneirin -> RE: Iceland Volcano and the Grounding of European Flights (4/16/2010 1:58:34 AM)

But it is interesting to see nature, raw nature, the workings of this planet, once again brings humanity to a standstill. Well, at least without all those gas turbines in the air, the air quality should be better and to those who worry about the breathing difficulties in these conditions, perhaps they will breathe free'er to some extent.

On another note, sunrise this morning, the sky was a bit different and the early morning light was kind of weak, diffused perhaps.

should I be pulling out the grey crayons and coloring in my maps?

myotherself -> RE: Iceland Volcano and the Grounding of European Flights (4/16/2010 3:42:43 AM)

here in the North East of England we're onto our second day of no flights. So far it's been quiet (no planes overhead) and one of the most beautiful blue sky days we've had this year - warm, with fresh air and hardly a breeze.

If this is what happens when volcanoes erupt in mainland Europe, then I think the EU should reverse the no smoking ban! [:D]

yourdarkdesire -> RE: Iceland Volcano and the Grounding of European Flights (4/16/2010 3:43:00 AM)

Crap - gotta find out if my bro-in-law is still in Warsaw.

RCdc -> RE: Iceland Volcano and the Grounding of European Flights (4/16/2010 9:12:38 AM)

Yup... flight is offically cancelled.  There goes our birthday trip to Nice and Monaco.
Poop, and double poop.[&o]
