Status: offline 		Yep, that's the one.  I loved the mental gymnastics.  I love the workings of his mind.  Course in real life, he's probably this very normal everyday kinda person.  It's only in his books that these things emerge.

I like James Patterson for my Fiction fix.

Right now I'm reading "Running for Dummies" by Flo Jo. She died before it was finished so her husband & sister-in-law finished it for her.

Status: offline 		ooooo, Linea, I forgot about the Dark Half......that was a great book too. 

As for his books being translated to screen...the only good ones are the ones where HE does the screenplay.....Rose Red, Storm of the Century are two that come to mind.  Maximum Overdrive was a very early one, and it's actually based on a short story.  And he's like Hitchcock...if he writes the screenplay, you'll find him appearing in what amounts to a walk on role......in RR, he delivered pizzas to the mansion, In Maximum Overdrive, he was a guy using an ATM.  SOTC didn't have him in it, I don't believe.  I'm not sure what story that came from, the only book I've ever found on it was the actual screenplay with all the directions in it....kind of made it hard to read!  But I don't think his books make good movies because they are so intricate in details, the time alotted for a movie just isn't enough.  RR was a 6 hour mini series, and SOTC was 4, I think.  Dreamcatcher left out a lot of details that make the book so good.  But there aren't too many books that have carried over to be movies of the same calibre......

Status: offline 		Right now I'm reading Naked Lunch by Burroughs and plan to start On The Road by Kerouac. I think I'm going to take this sommer to explore the beat generation a little bit further.
I'm not a huge King fan, I think I enjoy his short stories more then his novels. I think my favorite is Heart Of The Dragon.

Status: offline 		I read awhile back the "Born in..." series by Nora Roberts. (Yes, I know)... It was fascinating. I don't read scary books - they're scary after all. But I loved how she wrote about the process of writing scary books and how it allows a certain ... freedom because by writing about it they get to express that ugly side of themselves and then it can't bleed into other parts of their lives.

Hmmmmm... maybe I'll try it... I smell a new thread coming to mind.

Status: offline 		I'm reading Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things for a pso book club. It's all short stories. I don't care for it that much. I did read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the Girl Who Played With Fire. Can't wait to read The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

I also want to read Heart Shaped Box by Stephen King's son.

*These four have been with me for ten years. The last two are kind of flexible and change on a regular basis.

I do have a few books that "pass through my life" as in I buy them at the used book store and pass them along within a couple of weeks. There is no space where I live to keep them even if I wanted to! I am also not counting the few books I have that are specifically for work - A book on Grammar, one on discussion topics, and the Girl Scout Badges book for work (and of course my class textbooks).

I read books on line a bit (I miss turning the pages though). I used to have The Prophet by Khalil Gibran but it's easily found on line so I let it go (and replaced it wtih the DeBlasi book which was a holiday gift from the lovely Carrie O). That book will find a new home soon and then I will have room for another "for the long haul" book.

I've learned not to hold onto books. They take up space (and weight in my luggage), and I like sharing them, and it has given me the opportunity to really wait for things to come into my life. I was feeling a little homesick recently and went to the used bookstore where I found two books I've read before. I've since finished one and am halfway through the other one. It's like reminiscing with old friends and has helped my homesickness.

More than you wanted to know... sowwy.

I had the Ruiz book, but I had not gotten a chance to read it, so I'll revisit it, and the others sound interesting, too.

Yeah, I liked the whole concept of the little men in white.....well, 2 out of  the 3 of them, anyway.  I'm on my second copy of that one, too.  And the concept of destiny, as in how certain folks were destined for greatness and were saved from death so they could fulfill it.

Status: offline 		Sunny, I too have my favorites that I've saved over the years, but I tend to pass on most of my books.  I take them to work, and folks read them and bring them back, so the books get a lot of rotation.  And if they like them enough to keep the books, then I've simply found a new home for them.  But my favorites are like old friends....comforting, like an old well-worn blankie.  When I was working in PHX, we had a locker that everybody tossed their books in, and they were there for anyone to take.  When I moved, I had two huge rubbermaid containers full, and had to use a hand cart to get them moved, but they came with me.

It's been suggested to me that I look into getting a Kindle, but there's something that I like about holding the book in your hand, turning the pages as you say, that makes me put off getting one.

awwwwwwww *hugs back atcha! The Ruiz book is really good. I love it.
Also, there are a bunch of workshops that he is now giving based on the wisdom that is in the books.
