pahunk
The Transocean Deepwater Horizon was not built in the states, which, according to you would explain the shoddy workmanship that resulted in the spill, it was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipyard, Ulsan, South Korea.

Now if you have such a problem with the United States, items manufactured in the United States, or the people of the United States, why not shut the fuck up and leave the country, I am sure that there has to be somewhere on the planet that fits your warped idea of a perfect place to live with perfect products.

pyroaquatic -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 5:22:15 PM)

Simply because financially, I am stuck.

I happen to be on the side of The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly however.

America does have it's moments and movements.

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 5:34:37 PM)

61,  you really should read the article.

where does one go to get away from the New World Order?

Shoddy workmanship is NOT acceptable.   Yet we via our market- and YOU via your consumption has funded this shoddy workmanship which now has resulted in a major oil spill.

This is not acceptable.

Bridge collapses- building like 7 that collapse- mine collapses-  are not acceptable.  Yet YOU fund this via the market economy.

So even with Obama we glorify mediocrity.   Or in your case- we celebrate shoddy- which is like celebrating the oil spill.    Say what you want- but you gluttonous consumption of oil has exacerbated the problem.

Aneirin -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 5:48:28 PM)

Understand this, nothing man made lasts forever, even things built with that in mind, hell, nature and it's structures do not last forever, so anything made of nature by human design stands no chance to last, but is it we have become so buy it, .we have forgotten things need maintenance and repair from time to time.

We really have become a throw-away world, we deplete resources as if there was no tomorrow. Oil we are told is running out, but plastics are made from it, ask yourself how much plastic do you ditch per day, how many hard earned and paid for consumerist delights are now worthless and worth little if anything in scrap, could it be manufacturers know their product so well, they only offer a guarantee for the true life of the product, anything beyond, you are at best lucky and if the product is indispensible, you are living on the edge.

The name of the game in this modern world, is make it cheap but attractive, sell the product and make profit, then get on with the marketing of the next design and so on, today products are about profit, not service and a good name earned through quality of goods.

If you ever want a good product, ask a repair person what they recommend, for repair people know their stuff from what they receive to repair and what is never seen. I knew power tools,  I have advised many an enquirer on a best buy, but there are repair specialists for all consumer products and if you value a thing, get a specialists advice before shelling out yet more cash on the latest well advertised wonder gadget.

CDs are digital - and have higher quality sound than mp3s.

Stereos? Well you answered that one yourself, what use is a CD player these days, who would keep buying plastic, easily scratchable copies of music when they can get pristine digital sound?

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 5:55:27 PM)

The shoddy trend is not really an American thing- it is a corporate thing.  At one time we enforced merchantability of fitness.   An item had to perform its intended use.

The depression will change this. People will consider quality- and throw away will be less frequent.

Aneirin -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 5:57:31 PM)

Compact discs are indeed better sound than any mp3, but minidisc is superior to both and even with recordings from compact disc, mini disc reveals sound the CD never seems to reproduce. On my minidisc, mp3 is somewhere below the lowest quality of sound, yet minidisc really did not take off. Minidiscs don't get scratched, for they are houssed within a plastic case normally accessible only by the playing/recording machine.

It must be real nice in your reality where you can blame something on one little item.

Let me enlighten you.

Bridges collapse not because of shoddy workmenship, but because of the simple fact that no money has been paid into any fund to maintain the infrastructure of the United States.  You want to end unemployment, fund highway and bridge repair, that could put a few tens of millions of people to work.

I have an ink jet printer that I have had for 5 years, and the only reason I am not using it now is because they stopped making cartridges for it.  I have a 5 year old laser printer that is working just fine, just that the toner cartridges are expensive.

I own a 97 chevy monte carlo that is running just as good now as it did when I bought it.

You seem to forget that most of the consumer goods bought in this country is imported, hence this wonderful little thing called the trade deficit.  Look it up.

You are constantly running down the United States for what ever reason your warped brain can come up with.

So, why not do yourself and your mind a favor and leave?

Or buy some land in a remote area, build a 10 foot by 10 foot plywood cabin, put in a wood stove and hide from whatever group you seem to think is bound to take over this planet.  Your constant conspiracy and NWO crap is getting old.

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 6:55:36 PM)

You did not even read the article.

Buy me out.  Market value on my house and I am out of here.

jlf1961 -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 7:37:38 PM)

Pahunk, I read the frigging article and after the first few paragraphs I figured it was a rant with no proof.  The simple truth is that American Products have shown a marked increase in costumer satisfaction.

The fact that he had two hard drives fail is not a frequently occurring event.  I have had two drives fail, along with a few other items in a computer after a lightning storm.  I recently had another harddrive fail but the damn thing is an older IDE drive that came out of my previous computer.

However, claiming that everything made in America is shoddy, is making a statement that is not true.

When was the last time that an American car maker had a large number of models recalled all because of the same defect.  YEARS.  Toyota just had how many millions of cars recalled?  All because of shoddy or defective workmenship.

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 7:49:23 PM)

I have nothing but broken stuff in my house, my basement, my storage, my life.  Everything is shoddy.

Wash baskets, toilet brushes, dish liquid- all shoddy.  The phone, the quality of the chocolate- the wrapper even the new fridge I bought last summer is a piece of crap.

the gadget to wash back- the drape hooks, envelopes- all crap.

even the receipts the ink is shoddy and fades quickly .

everything is shoddy.  everything.

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 7:56:04 PM)

Our tools have become unreliable, our systems unsafe, our infrastructure insecure. The United States, which once led the world in manufacturing the finest quality products anywhere, is now the United States of Shoddy. The most likely reason (aside from greed) that our financial leaders and politicians are strip-mining this country financially is that they realize that a nation that has been saddled with unreliable tools will never recover. Everyone understands that reliability and quality has to come back to American products (and not just in the advertising slogans), but the money-addicts want someone else to pay to make it happen.

We are already a third-world country in terms of what we make and what our stores sell to us./snip

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/2/2010 8:11:38 PM)

Hey P-boy: I happen to work for a company here in the good ol' US of A that is a leader in its field. We have just last week been ISO certified for the 4th consecutive time. We also have an un-matched safety record. And not 1 illegal worker in the plant! But you'll never see our products on the shelves of your local Walmart - we make industrial rollers for the manufacturing industry. We work with other world-class US companies like Caterpillar, John Deere, and James Harding.

The shoddy stuff you're all worked-up about may have been stamped with a US name but more than likely it was made in China.

And the Japanese don't have the market cornered on quality as the recent Toyota and Honda recalls show.

The last 8 new cars I've purchased were all from US manufacturers and there were all solid performers. Every major appliance I've ever owned has been from a US company. If you really want to find well-made US products they are out there. Google is your friend. If, on the other hand, you want to give that bratty kid next door a case of lead poisoning then I would point you toward China. Or perhaps you'd like to do some remodeling - I hear that Chinese drywall is a bargain!

Pahunk, all you ever do is complain, and complain and complain, always about the United States or something to do with the United States.

If you had one shred of proof, a study from a reputable source proving your point, I would believe that you had done some actual research and thinking for yourself.

The fact that you claim your home and basement is filled with broken or shoddy stuff leads me to believe you may have a problem getting rid of stuff, you might make a few bucks getting on the TLC show "Hoarders Buried Alive."

Personally I wish your computer would fry and you leave the boards, I am tired of seeing you post the same old complaints, conspiracies or bullshit.

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/3/2010 8:56:18 AM)

The good news is that I have a spare computer sitting right here.

if the oil spill was not shoddy then that means it was done on purpose.

MichiganHeadmast -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/3/2010 8:59:20 AM)

Fair question, PA:

What do you build?

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/3/2010 9:31:44 AM)

I am not a hoarder.

I moved 3 years ago.

Do you even know who built Transocean's drilling rig?  Dont you understand that the oil field is a dangerous place.  Funny thing is that you dont hear about the number of blowouts on shore because the environmental impact is a lot less.

Accidents happen, and it does not mean something was shoddy.

Hunky, you are once more proving just how much of an idiot you really are.

pahunkboy -> RE: THE UNITED STATES OF SHODDY (5/3/2010 11:37:07 AM)

well then maybe the other 3800 of the rigs will be quality made too.

under NWO- it is all crap.   YOUR NWO.   ooops  massive oil spill.

It is true- that I also fund this asinine system.

"accident"  does nothing for the 3000 miles of coast line now at risk.  so sure blame some other country- even tho is was in our waters by our people- it is always someone elses fault.
