That's fair enough. There are places that will repair an old Shaefer for you, though. If it's that old, I doubt that Shaefer would be able to do anything with it anyway. (I'd be surprised if Cross or Waterman are sticking by their lifetime guarantees for older models anymore, either.)
What was the problem with your 149? Was that one of the brittle ones, or an older model?
I started a business in 1975 and it was one of those "things" you bought. The busieness was short lived.
The pen lived in my shirt pocket so it caught a lot of shit since I deal with mechanical things.
When I turned it in for service it had been laying in my desk for about five years. It had weld spatter on it, various splashes of paint and a crack in the cap that prevented it from staying on.
When I got it back it looked like a new pen...which it may well have been.
