lol...  evidently you're not up to explicating.

Hmmm... using big, important-sounding words ... ignoring questions like "what does LAs education have to do with anything?" ... yeah, that seems like you think you're better than the rest of us - perhaps not quite "holier than thou", but I'm definitely sensing an air of superiority from you.

Forgive me....  but which actions are those?  Perhaps *you* will be up to explicating.

They have been pointed out to you by a few people. Stop typing and start reading.

Oh, but see ... she used the ** to stress that she wants you, personally, to point out to her what she's done, or it doesn't count. Once again giving off an air of superiority because the rest of us aren't 'worthy' of her attention, apparently. [8|]

Damn Karen. Demanding, isn't she! Well I feel like playing the denial game tonight ;-)

LOL, go for it. Personally, I think her behavior is rather childish. *shrugs* but that's just my opinion ... just like it's my opinion that the prisoners where I work often act like children instead of like they are grown adults who need to be responsible for their behavior ...

And honestly, did you ever say anything about your level of education in this thread? I mean, I know from other conversations ... but all you said here is that the plagarist should know what plagarism is if she has a certain level of education ... and you aren't the one tossing around important-sounding words so .... hmmm.... *ponders*

SweetDommes--

I speak as I speak.  I neither dumb down nor smart up (nor. more to the point, smart down nor dumb up).  And I have not, in the course of this, addressed myself to you specifically, let alone to everyone here (I have every reason to think you are likable and with it.  It's my default assumption.).

On the contrary.  I trust you, and everyone else here, to understand "explicate" and many many other words, even if you are not yourself prone to using them.  (there are many that are common to other people-- scientists, political people, what you will--that I do not use myself.  But I am fine with hearing them used.)

LA touts her superior education all over the freaking boards (she knows what she's doing in the boardroom and the classroom alike!   wow!),  I mostly lurk here these days, but it's annoying enough for even the likes of me to be aware of and allude to.

You do neither yourself, nor her, nor the world at large, any favors by supporting such stuff uncritically, only because you find me annoying or out of place.

Honestly?  I am arguing against my normal position on plagiarism here (i.e., it is always and everywhere *wrong*) and that solely because LA annoys me.  Woo hoo!  I am totally petty!

I don't support her in feeling wronged, because I think she'd benefit from greater consciousness of her own limits, and her own ultimate silliness (we all have it). This may not have been the best possible occasion for this particular sally....  but I am subject to my own limits.

::shrug::  more tomorrow if necessary.  But to you, SweetDommes, I apologize if I have offended.

LadyAngelika -> RE: Is imitation really the sincerest form of flattery? (5/2/2010 10:35:53 PM)

I know I mentioned catching university professors plagiarizing... maybe I did. I know I did on another thread today and got flack there. Apparently stating I have the degrees I do make me pompous. I should keep them a secret.

In the end, do I have an advanced university education? Yes.
Am I proud of it? Of course, who wouldn't be?
Do I state it when it is relevant? Yes. As anyone else would bring up any relevant qualification or experience.
Do I try to make people feel inferior when they don't have advance university education? No.
Is it perceived that I do by others? At times unfortunately, but that speaks more about their own insecurities than me.

Does any of this have to do with the OP? Perhaps... but I'll let people figure it out for themselves.

SweetDommes -> RE: Is imitation really the sincerest form of flattery? (5/2/2010 10:39:32 PM)

I understood what you meant by "explicate" - and I don't expect you to 'dumb down' your language, but you did, indeed, ignore a direct question that I asked you, and as you were the one who brought up LA's education level, it was just rather ironic. I have never felt that LA has "touted" her superior education - she mentions it when appropriate, IMO, or when she's questioned about it ... that has nothing to do with the topic at hand, and that is why I asked you what it has to do with anything. You have now answered me that it has nothing to do with it, that you are simply being petty ... ok, thanks for clarifying. That doesn't change the fact that your attitude here is one of superiority.

Personally, from what I know of LA, she's quite comfortable with herself and her own, innate silliness, as well as perfectly capable of admitting when she's made a mistake. I see no reason for you to take out a personal vendetta against her on a topic that you actually agree with her on. Who is having trouble with her own "ultimate silliness" now?

LA - now that you mention it again, I do remember you saying something about university professors ... but to me, that isn't mentioning your education level. Honestly, how many people these days go to college and don't finish? My brother did - 6 years, no degree ... I know of many others who started college and didn't finish. Could they have caught plagarism while they were there without having a degree? Of course. So while it's implied that you have an advanced degree, you didn't state it, nor did you "flout" or "tout" your degree.

Pettiness is not a becoming trait sravaka. It isn't showing you in a very flattering light.

Just a thought.

Thanks Karen. I hold you in high esteem as well. We have exchanged on these boards for almost 6 years now (with me taking a long break) and I appreciate that you have gotten to know my character over the years, its strengths and its weaknesses, and have recognized my sincerity.

Thank you ... even if some people think of me as a "nobody" (reference to another thread - and FYI, I took no offence *grin*)

Life is too short for crap like that. I have my issues, who doesn't? But to go to a thread to harrass the poster because of some percieved slight (or whatever)? nah ... no thanks. I prefer to ignore people that irritate me. Heck, I've even defended someone who irritates me because she was right and the dumbass attacking her was wrong. What a concept.

Yeah, I noticed that when I went back and looked. *sigh* I guess us nobodies gotta stick together LOL [;)]

Time to start a "nobody" fan thread then, 'cause I always read your posts (and those of the other 'nobodies') with great interest [:D]

ETA- @sravka: I do believe the previously mentioned "holier than thou" may be better termed "bitchier than thou". You made some obviously bitchy posts here, and apparently did so for no better reason than the fact that LA annoys you. I often support or agree with posts made by people that I can't stand, simply because they happen to be right.
'Petty' describes things pretty well, IMO.

SweetDommes -> RE: Is imitation really the sincerest form of flattery? (5/3/2010 12:57:40 AM)

Aw, thanks, Wyld - I feel all warm and fuzzy inside now [:)]

and now, unless my satalite dish and the weather decide to play nice with each other so that I can finish watching my movie ... I think it's time for me to sleep ...

~FR~

LadyA - you acted appropriately and in a very reasonable fashion.  It's never acceptible to use another's words without giving due credit.  The next time the twit decides to steal from someone, she might find herself on the wrong end of a lawsuit.  One can only hope she learns that much deserved lesson sooner rather than later.

And, once again, I am mortified that a "speshul snowflake" like sravaka is from my home state.  It's bad enough that the juvenile git deludes herself into thinking her writing is distinctive when, in reality, it's one of the least developed voices I've encountered and one would be hard-pressed to pick it out of the slush pile at my alma mater's publishing house.

LadyA, I'm sure I don't need to tell you that you never need to apologize for your education to the lackwits who are intimidated by it.  In my opinion, while your style is occasionally more formal than typical of a message forum such as this, you have never appeared pompous in your posts.

Musicmystery -> RE: Is imitation really the sincerest form of flattery? (5/3/2010 1:14:51 AM)

As sravaka has long held an advanced degree and is the author of published scholarly books and articles, I seriously doubt she's intimidated by anyone's education.

As for pettiness--she took a few swipes, but there's no shortage of petty sniping in this thread.

Just saying.

SweetDommes -> RE: Is imitation really the sincerest form of flattery? (5/3/2010 1:21:46 AM)

I don't know her from Eve, to be honest, Music, but she certainly seems to have issues with educated people who are honest about it. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong ... but she's certainly done nothing to prove me wrong on this thread, and I've never noted her postings before so this is all I have to go by. I'll give her this - at least she was honest (eventually) about her motivation for coming onto this thread.

And now, as mother nature and technology are still not playing nice with each other here at my house (I had hopes - the picture came back for a minute before turning back to snow) ... I'm really going to bed now.
