Thank you so much to everyone for the congratulations! quote:
ORIGINAL: Level Hey pretty lady, no helpful hints on the hair from me, it sounds like you have a good idea of what to do (and not do), but wishing you and Kentucky a happy anniversary. lol... Somehow I didn't figure I'd get too many suggestions from men. Even Firm is no help in this area and he has to actually look at me all day. And thank you for the compliment. You've always been a gentleman that knows how to make a lady feel good. quote:
ORIGINAL: popeye1250 Well Happy Anniversary to you guys! And I'm glad you stuck around in here as I always like reading both of your thoughts on various topics! Here's a solution, use all the other stuff on the gift certificate and give the haircut part to a homeless woman, it'll make her (and you evidently) feel much better! Treasure, it really sounds like to me anyway that you really don't want anyone messing with your hair. Thank you, Popeye. Firm and I always enjoy reading what you have to say, too. In fact, when we're both reading the forums in our office together and one of us laughs, the other automatically asks, "Popeye?" You're straight shooting comments are a breath of fresh air! The idea of donating the hair portion of my certificate is a good idea. I'm just not sure how I'd go about finding someone to use it. You are right, though... I'm really reluctant to let anyone mess with my hair. lol... It's just that it's to the point where someone has to do something with it! quote:
ORIGINAL: JstAnotherSub happy anniversary....i get the hair thing. i am going to be the crazy old lady with the gray ponytail who refuses to realize how silly she looks. that day may be coming up soon the way i keep sprouting "blonde" hairs in fact! the thing about hair is it grows back. a lady i work with had hair to her waist and got it cut to just above shoulder length. it looked great on her and she loved it, but now she is letting it grow back cause she just misses it. the same lady has cut my hair for 18 years now....i wouldnt let anyone else near it. you need to find a stylist who you trust and let them help you decide what would work best for your hairs texture and all that jazz. and if it sucks and you hate it, it will grow back. that or just chicken out and become the crazy old lady with the gray ponytail- jst, who turned 48 a couple weeks ago....lol Thank you and happy belated birthday! But I'm jealous because you're my age and just now getting gray hair. Sheesh... I found my first one when I was 21. Honestly, if I didn't color my hair, I'm convinced it would be pretty much all white by now. lol... I look like a skunk by the time I need to color again because it's all white where my hair parts in the middle. You are right, though... I do need to find someone I trust and who can advise and work with me. quote:
ORIGINAL: sirsholly congrats on the 4 years together....awesome!! My advice is to talk to the stylist and tell him/her your concerns. You can change your hairstyle without giving up the length... Thank you, Holly! I think this is what I really need to do. I'm wondering if salons still have those big books filled with hairstyles... quote:
ORIGINAL: LaTigresse Treasure, congratulations! I agree with the above, how delightful to read about the sucess stories. As for hair......I used to have very long hair and ended up, more often than not, with it tied up, braided, something. The older I got the stringier it got and just yuck! I tried a cut similar to the photo lushy posted, but for ME, it just wasn't practical. It meant a lot of time fussing with it to avoid looking like one of the 70's/80's mullet men. Now I keep my hair pretty short.......obviously per my photos.... It is a razor cut that adds sooooooo much umph and volume. I never had thick hair and with the passing of time (just turned 48) it wasn't getting any thicker. The style I have now gives the illusion that there is a lot more hair growing there than there really is. Also, try doing a year of evening primrose capsules( there are others my sleep adled brain cannot think of right now )... it is one of the natural 'help you through the hormonal thing' that can, for many women, stimulate hair growth. I've been using it for about 2 months and feel like there is more up there. I sooooooooooooooooo do not want to be one of those old women with a shiny pinkish white scalp glistening through some peach coloured strands of hair!!!!!! Thank you, LaTigresse. Yep... mine's doing that "stringy" thing with a vengence. Time has much to do with it, too. Ever since I started working with Firm in his business, it seems like I have no time for me anymore. I've always worked a full-time job, but having one in your home means much more than 40 hours a week. More like 16/7. Yikes! I definitely don't want the mullet look, either. I'm definitely going to look for a cut that adds volume. And thanks for the tip on Evening Primrose. I'm with you... I can't stand the idea of my scalp showing though my hair. If this will help stimulate hair growth, it would be great. Aside from my hair, I can always use help with the hot flashes thing as I can't use HRT due to a history of blood clotting. quote:
ORIGINAL: DomImus My girlfriend has long hair and she is your age. She looks about ten years younger than her real age. When people find out her real age they sometimes tell her that she is too old to have long hair or words to that effect... even though moments earlier they would have guessed that she was in her late thirties and the long hair was fine then. Why is long hair considered such a taboo for the older woman? An inch a year? The hair in my ears grows faster than that. Honestly, that's another big consideration. People tell me that I don't look my age. Of course, I think they mean it in a nice way. While a more mature hairstyle is fine, I definitely don't want to look older! I'm not sure why it's considered so odd for older women to have long hair. I suppose a lot of it might be because when you get older, your hair thins and has a tendency to look "stringy". Of course, I always thought "old ladies" who wore their long hair up in a chignon or other "upswept" hairstyle, look very dignified. My great-grandmother had hair that was probably down to her knees, but she wore it in a long braid that she wrapped up on the top of her head. I will admit the color difference was a bit strange, though... the braid part was nearly black where the hair on her head was snow white. lol... I think men have some weird hair growth thing going on with their ears that has something to do with testosterone. My hair actually grows at a normal rate; about a half an inch per month. I know this because it grows out white and as I said above, I look like a skunk if I don't color about every 3 weeks. It's just that between trims and breakage, it pretty much doesn't gain length very fast. quote:
ORIGINAL: VirginPotty Allow me to add my CONGRATULATIONS to the mix! I too was going to suggest long layers. I love how easy it is to style w/just a blow dryer & a round brush Thank you, thank you! I think you're right that layers is going to be the way to go. It would seem that might help with the volume issue. Just a matter of deciding on the overall length now...
