ORIGINAL: pahunkboy Would it be better if no one questioned this war? Let's put it this way. When vincentML talked about the public being against this war, he touched on something that the enemy is all too aware about... America's will to fight. This is a lesson learned they got from Vietnam. We didn't lose militarily over there, we won the Vietnam War militarily. The Vietnamese knew that they couldn't take us on in the battle field. But they had the numbers, and they had American public opinion on their side. All they had to do was "hang on" and "take the beating," until the anti-war decenters in the US, including those in Washington DC, enforced their wishes... ending the Vietnam War "because they're tired of the war, and opposed to it." It's those that questioned the Vietnam War without reason, that opposed it, etc., that won the Vietnam War, on American soil, for the North Vietnamese. The people that are questioning this war are doing so from a misguided standpoint. They've got no real legitimate argument, other than what's ideologically driven from within themselves. While they do that, the enemy does his thing to try to wear the American public down. What does our enemy want? They want those in the American public, who oppose the war, to prevail and get their way... US forces coming home regardless of whether they accomplish their objectives or not. They thought that with Iraq, a simple "bloody nose" would get the U.S. military to run back to the states with its tail tucked between its legs. They figured, the American public can't stand the mounting casualties, the more Americans killed, the more the public would want to end the war. That, ladies and gentlemen, is our enemy seeing us as a paper tiger. If we gave in to the urge to "come back home" before we accomplish our objectives, "because of the loss of lives," that sends a nice message to our other enemies. For instance, the Chinese are keeping a very keen eye on how we do in the Middle East. If we pull out before we accomplish our objectives, they'll know how long to outlast us if that's what's needed to militarily force their way onto Taiwan. Good thing for us, we ignored the war decenters and did what's right, continue pulverizing the enemy; and continued despite the casualties. Result? Iraq is well along the path we set them on, we've won the Iraq War with a straight cut victory. We proved to them, in Iraq, that we're not the paper tigers they thought we were. We're proving that in Afghanistan. From a tactical standpoint, those questioning this war the way the opposition is are actually helping the enemy's moral. God help us if the United States makes the same mistake we made in Vietnam. If we do what the anti-war crowd wants us to do, our days as a super power would be numbered.
