I so enjoy that!

No, but I'm perfectly willing to pull your hair. You'll be bald by the time I'm through with you. [:D]

That is not exactly what I had in mind.......:)

I would so buy tickets to that fight!

In response to the question posed by the OP - I don't see snobbery in what you describe at all. I do see reasonable skepticism. When corresponding with someone, if the bells start going off suggesting they are not who they claim to be, by all means it is reasonable or even wise to cease correspondence.

Actually, I simply said that it took an open mind to recognize multiple intelligences. If you felt targeted by that comment, then it's on you. I don't know you well enough to make such an assumption about you.

Well, for the sake of discussion then, let me summarize (for brevity) a thread of conversation between you and me still waiting for your redress :

quote:

ORIGINAL: SaharahEve

When someone writes a letter and it's patent they've willfully neglected the most basic punctuation and capitalization rules, that indicates to me they are lazy and uninspired.

quote:

ORIGINAL: LadyAngelika

Or maybe they just have a learning disability. Not all of us are so quick to judge.

...There are multiple intelligences. Yet it takes an open mind to be able to see them in people.

To which I replied:

quote:

ORIGINAL: SaharahEve
... you forgot to consider the terms patent and willful contained within [my words].

...I can let a comma here or a capitalization error there slide by, but—when u r talking like this 4 no other reason than ur own convenience when writing to a 'dominate'—it's clear your writing is poorly constructed, and probably for little more than the sake of quick-speak laziness.

I hope that sums it up well enough, and underscores my little bone of contention. If you're here for discussion, then by all means own your words and partake in it.

My contention is that how do you know it's wilful? You haven't been in the man's mind so all you are making is assumptions.

You are right, I am here for discussions, not arguments in bad faith. If you took my words as insults, then you were looking for them.

first of all it's spelled grammar (AR not ER). might as well set it straight.

I think that's been stated somewhere around a dozen times over the last 6 pages. I think it's not going to get any straighter ;-)

perhaps not, but some people learn through repetition

of course, i think that, by correcting the word in the TOPIC section, it might actually sink in this time...LOL

mikeyOfGeorgia -> RE: Is good grammar a reasonable standard? (5/10/2010 2:53:25 PM)

Perhaps one day I'll be open-minded enough to not need these communiqués from you in a public forum. One day, perhaps.

and if not then I wish you "lots of fun" if you ever have the missfortune to be looked after in a carehome once you are heading towards 100 because - though maybe it differs in the US compared to the UK - often staff there isn't that great with grammar either...and considering your ignorance I doubt that you will have much family around you to look after you once you might need help one day[8|] So the pleasure to then heaving to deal with such "people below yourself"...will be all yours [:)]

My contention is that how do you know it's wilful? You haven't been in the man's mind so all you are making is assumptions.

So then by extension of that thinking, no letter or post should ever be judged, no matter how obnoxiously written. And since I haven't yet "been in the man's mind", I guess 72 pt. caps should be patiently accepted too — all in the name of staying open to the possibility the author is really an illiterate Fabio from the sticks with a beautiful mind, working on the cure for cancer (when he's not beheading chickens on the farm, that is).

Have you ever received an email on collarme in 72pt font? Or did you need to make that big of an exaggeration to make your point?

Honestly, I've said what I had to say on this topic. I'm too sadistic to give Jefff the catfight he so badly wants to see.

Bottom line is, we all have our criteria and in the end, you have the right to yours.

I don't think if I typed in 172 pt type you'd care to acknowledge the foot in your mouth, or your hypocrisy while lecturing, but that's alright. Instead of covering up with bland truisms, I'll just let your own words speak for themselves:

"What you consider to be quick to judge might simply be many years of experience at work. I can tell right of the bat if anyone has a chance with me. First impressions are very important to me to be honest. And I am an excellent judge of character. "

And of course, let's not forget "A message full of typos gives the impression of negligence and carelessness." (for more, see point 9: Revise for grammar & spelling).

I agree with both links above (yikes!), so perhaps they need revisions for the sake of being more "open-minded". ;-)

Why don't you close that hole already.

She made some good points and your too thick headed to see them because your too busy arguing for the sake of. As if what she has said was a direct challenge to your ability to discern the difference between one thing or the other..All she was doing was laying out a rational idea..Ya know, the one where you can't KNOW the person on the other side so why be quick to judge one way or another..Why not do the reasonable thing and talk to the person for a second before you...

LA is one of the very few people in my opinion that has their feet planted fairly firmly on the ground. Her words do just fine.

In agreement with DG..Your just being a douche.
