If the Brits, us and every other country would stop spending money that isn't there, raising taxes would not be necessary.

Anyways, I am not thrilled with the outcome, but I am very proud of the lib dems, I know that sounds patronising but they did so much better that I expected, I think that this is a great step in changing politics and also on a party personal level of getting their policies and values out there for the first time, and something I assumed wouldn't happen in my life time.

Thing is, ever fierce Labourites had become sick of Labour - especially after Iraq. Blair has a lot to answer for.

Yeah, that's their legacy....much as they'll want people to think of devolution, minimum wage, lords reforms, record growth....even for their supporters, possibly especially for their supporters...3 years of Labour govt = invading Iraq.

Ummmm you do know they got more votes? I am a lib dem supporter I believe in a fairer voting system. But regardless they never get anywhere and never will under the system, they now have a chance to prove PR can work and coalitions (ie adults behaving like adults) aren't the big bad wolf people make out KS, Yeah he really does, so does Brown, I am not happy about the prospect of Miliband, if they had swung back to the left I would possibly consider switching sides

Moonhead, first post...what the fuck are ya talking about? 2nd post....they didn't do near as bad as it might seem looking at seats. The % of vote went up to 23, and they're now either 1st or 2nd party in ~300 seats. Off the back of the massive Iraq boost fading, reckon they've done great.

I knew what Moonhead was saying, I just didn't really like the sarcasum. I just think the two party system is structurally wrong, that MP's don't seem to feel at all like they are accountable, that is something I hate, its like a boys club, well it will be labour for a while then the conservatives then labour forever and ever and ever and ever and ever where I want them to feel they have to work hard for support. I don't know I just hate the FPTP system, I don't think it works.

A lot of people over here (or at least those who have heard about it) are a bit narked about this, feeling that the money could have been better used to lubricate our own economy.

(As for the sarcasm, I find that very useful in political discussions on the internet. You should give it a go yourself. It does wonders for the blood pressure.)

Yeah they did Moonhead, and I was gutted I thought they had really got through to people, and some of the MP's they lost were pretty wonderful. It was an odd result though, really shocked at the indecision of it all. On the sarcasm note, I am just being overly sensitive I think, I feel like I have been standing up for the Lib Dems for days now, I kinda understand why you don't have to disclose who you vote for.

It was a bit depressing, but I also find it funny in an "if I laugh at any mortal thing it is that I do not cry" way.
