You go right ahead Pop but I like fresh produce.

People vote with their taste buds every time!

I would be in some deep shit if the only place to get coffee was from AZ (says a prayer of thanks to the coffee gods that coffee is grown around the globe)

I would say that if people find the laws of California a violation of human rights they should boycott the Golden State...

If they are boycotting us because of a tit for tat rationale, good luck with that idea because we are a global economy here

"FUCK CALIFORNIA! Don't buy!!!"

Good luck with that, Pops. The following was written as a joke during the energy crisis, but the parts about what California produces are pretty much correct:
quote:

Dear (the rest of) America,

America has engaged in some finger wagging lately because California doesn't have enough electricity to meet its needs. The rest of the country (including George W. Bush's energy secretary Spencer Abraham, who wants Californians to suffer through blackouts as justification for drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge) seems to be just fine with letting Californians dangle in the breeze without enough power to meet their needs. They laugh at Californians' frivolity.

Well, everybody, here's how it really is:

California ranks 48th in the nation in power consumed per person.

California grows more than half the nation's fruit, nuts and vegetables. We're keeping them. We need something to eat when the power goes out.

We grow 99 percent or more of the nation's almonds, artichokes, dates, figs, kiwifruit, olives, persimmons, pistachios, prunes, raisins and walnuts. Hope you won't miss them.

California is the nation's number one dairy state.
We're keeping our dairy products. We'll need plenty of fresh ones since our refrigerators can't be relied upon. Got milk?

We Californians are going to keep all our high-tech software in state. Silicon Valley is ours, after all. Without enough electricity, which you're apparently keeping for yourselves, we just don't have enough software to spare.

We're keeping all our airplanes. California builds a good percentage of the commercial airliners available to fly you people to where you want to go. When yours wear out, you'd better hope Boeing's Washington plant can keep you supplied. There isn't enough electricity here to allow us to export any more planes than we need ourselves.

Oh, yeah, and if you want to make a long-distance call, remember where the satellite components and tracking systems come from. Maybe you could get back in the habit of writing letters. Want to see a movie this weekend? Come to California. We make them here. Since we'll now have to make them with our own electricity, we're keeping them. Even if we shot them somewhere else, the labs, printing facilities, editing facilities, and sound facilities are all here.

Want some nice domestic wine? We produce over 17 million gallons per year. We'll need all of it to drown our sorrows when we think about the fact that no matter how many California products we export to make the rest of America's lives better, America can't seem to help us out with a little electricity. You can no longer have any of our wine.

You all complain that we don't build enough power plants. Well, you don't grow enough food, write enough software, make enough movies, build enough airplanes, or make enough wine.

This is your last warning, America. Lighten (us) up before it's too late.

Love,
The Californians

And Arizona's new law specifically precludes the latter. You sound just like AG Eric Holder, who just admitted he didn't read the new law before he denounced it as unconstitutional.

No, Arizona's law does not specifically preclude it, it requires it.

That's what the controversy is about.

Otherwise no one would care.

I saw Karl Rove on Fox last night and he was blatantly lying about how the Arizona law "mirrors" federal law.

So again, do you have some proof other than the propaganda you have listened to?

Actually many portions do mirror fed law, so why the fuck did they pass a law that basically is just repetitious? The problem is, some portions that mirror fed law seek to give AZ fed powers over the border... which they are not allowed to do.

Because it is NOT just repetitious.

It REQUIRES the police to check the legal status of those they believe may be illegal just on the basis of that alone.

It expands reasonable suspicion into an entirely different realm.

I've posted the relevant sections of both the state and federal laws on Mike's thread about this and I'm not going to go over it again.

But it is pretty sad when even people who oppose the law buy into the propaganda of their opposition.

I never said it was just repetitious....um... you should review my posts on this thread before singing to the choir...

I said it was partially repetitious... and if you read the link I provided it shows in what ways that it is

edited to say I can understand why you thought I was saying it was just repetitious after reading my reply again...

I think that it is an argument against the law that it is largely repetitious in that it seeks to undermine the authority of the feds over our border...

The ways in which it isn't repetitious are egregious to constitutional and human rights

i think a true boycott would include power and water.

AZ provides both to SoCal.

CA is broker then AZ.   CA has no money. So threats are silly.

There is a body of water that flows through AZ, it is called the Colorado River, they do not own that river, it just flows through the state.

Edited to add, it isn't the state that is boycotting, it is cities within this state. And Az is no where near as wealthy as California is. We are having budget problems,  but saying that Az is richer than we are is not accurate, our economy dwarfs AZ

And I am wondering, are you saying that you support Bug Brother asking you for your papers???

what does it really matter what the general population has to say about anything?

Because if people in other states start thinking this is a good idea then perhaps they will want to put similar measures on the books. There are other reasons, like furthering awareness about human rights, I do not want to live in a country where it is the popular opinion that we should ignore our constitution and implement racial profiling. I want to advocate for a better position than that

Julia, ever hear of "Affirmative Action?"

Let me tell you something. If the politically correct media reports that 59% agree and support Arizona, that means in reality it's more like 65% who agree with their new law, and even more people agree that the federal government is failing to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities for securing the border. You will never have any issue in America where more people are in agreement on.

What's even more surprising is that ABC News actually put the poll on the air, considering that they normally don't present any evidence that supports the the general population on liberal issues.

LOLOL @ " politically correct media" Isn't that like an oxymoron?  woot!

dovie (who is still boycotting  Arizona) double-woot!!

We should probably rely on the media that informed you that the Gulf Oil rig explosions were caused by terrorists.

No I do not.

Cut off things like food stamps and welfare to illegals.  Easy fix.

KenDckey -> RE: ABC News Reports 59% Agree with Az. Immigration Law (5/14/2010 5:24:11 PM)

Hmmmmmmmm   Maybe California should boycott us here.  Then they would close their border to vehicles that purchase our fuel, close the interstate and rail systems to commercial traffic.  And force all the shippers to route stuff thru Vegas or points North.   It would force the closure of all california businesses that do business in AZ.   Wonderful.   Maybe we could have our law enforcement ship any suspected illegals to Cali for ICE to process.   hmmmmmm

Now this is the ACLU analysis of the law in question, but instead of just rambling on about what it is and what it isn't, they have the text of the law and go over it section by section

Just to be clear, what is posted on the ACLUs site isn't the actual text of the law.
For instance, section B actually reads:
quote:

B. FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY
21 OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS
22 STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS
23 UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE,
24 WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE
25 PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
26 PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

PaHunk, Calif does because they give welfare to illegal aliens.
If you do that you know what you get? More illegal aliens. That's why they're broke!
You know which states that are in trouble because they advertise on t.v. about how "great for business" they are. Michigan and California.

Please show me the data about who benefits more from the interaction, California or AZ?

I would venture to guess AZ stands to lose much more than Cali does
