Top priority, not just important.

I'm going to get breakfast but I'll weigh in when I get back.

To ban polls in the P&R section and allow members to express opinions in response to a well formulated OP.

There's some competition for that title.

It's "ONLY" priority should be right here in this country...NO PLACE ELSE...PERIOD. Let the rest of the world fend for themselves.

America can't even take care of itself...it has no business being overseas. Since they totally screwed up with Bin Ladin (provided he was even really involved in anything or just set up by the U.S. government so that MORE of it's people could be sacrificed for the banks and the government.

Our nations 1st priority should be to take care US citizines. To make sure those that live here at least have the bare necessities and are living above the poverty level. When THAT happens then they can worry about the poor and impoverished people of other nations.

I strongly believe that all of our actions impact on everything else so I voted for the world option. Part of  making the world a priority naturally includes improving the lives of people in your own country, the environment and so forth.

There are many countries that for whatever reason do not have the resources or means to provide things many of us take for granted like clean water, are they any less deserving because they do not live in our country?

i hate to be the one to say this, but it's not America's job to fix other countries...we have things here that desperately need fixing and we can't do that if we're overseas solving someone else's problems.

Wanders,
Even in the US there are people who don't have clean water, food, homes, ect. How can we take care of other's if we can't even take care of our own? Plus the reality is our nation is in debt. I dont know about anyone else but when I am debt I don't loan money out or worry about anyone elses household but mine.

I totally hear what you are saying DIS and yes, we have the same problems in Australia however for me I believe that everyone's life is of value no matter where they live so I struggle with the idea that we should primarily focus just on those in our own county.

I fully admit that this attitude of mine if maybe a little more fervent today because I went to a celebration of Buddha's birth so maybe feeling a little more all-inclusive than usual.

And just off track for a smidge.... yes our nations are in debt and it would start a bun fight in this thread to explore the things that governments put as a priority for spending money on rather than housing and healthcare.

I think of it as a parent. What kind of parent would I be if on my limited budget I took from my children's mouths to feed other people? I try to give to my community but not at the detremint of my own children. THAT is what the US has done IMO.

Yep I am still agreeing with you. And if the governments were spending the majority of their budget on healthcare, housing, education etc it would be fantastic however so much of it goes on other things which means that they are not helping people overseas AND they are not helping the people in their own country.

Then perhaps we ought to stop illegally invading them and occupying them, and creating war torn clusterfucks that we have to deal with?
