Who would you vote for to be the next president of the United States, well-known or not, and why? they can even be someone from CollarMe.

i'm hoping this will turn out to be a fun thread.

Hmm..........good thread, michael. The posts so far are all interesting (Ron Paul, Judge Judy, Oprah, and even Merc [:D] ).....personally, I'd like to see Colin Powell and John McCain on a ticket......this coming from a life-long and still Democrat........Russ Feingold is pretty sharp........and as nutty as he occasionally came across as, Ross Perot had some decent ideas, and a cut-the-bullshit-and-get-it-done mentality that I liked......

candystripper -> RE: Who would you vote for to be the next President... (4/8/2006 10:29:38 AM)

ya, Level is right......Colin Powel and John McCain.   Anyone but Jeb Bush, too.

I'd love to see Andrew Jackson come out of the grave and take the reigns. They don't make men like him anymore. I'd give him no more than ten minutes to survey the current situation before the next revolution was fomented.

While I'm calling for people to come out of the grave...... I'd also ask that Judge Roy Bean and a few good Amish carpenters join Jackson when he came back, as there would be some serious business to take care of after the crooks were thrown out of office.

As far as those living today :  I'd pick Ron Paul or Tom Tamcredo. Both are pure Americana and anti-globalist

Edited to add : Not to chastise the McCain fans {Lets keep it friendly}, but I seriously would love to hear why you find him so appealing as the next president? Outside of Hiliary and Gore, I can't think of a worse candidate. I know a whole slew of Republicans from from the Grand Canyon state that refer to him as a traitor.

Who would I vote for.........4 top choices............Bill Maher, Joe Biden (D) senator from Delaware, Al Franken, Hillary Clinton.........

Now I know some of these may get me a flame or two...........or three or four............but who the hell cares  Anything is better than "Captain Danger" and his family

FangsNfeet -> RE: Who would you vote for to be the next President... (4/8/2006 11:16:23 AM)

My vote goes to the one who will abolish Day Light Savings Time. However, I wouldn't mind voting for Arnold Schwarzenegger if ever given the chance to run for the US presidency.

Amen to THAT!

Seriously, though, I'd vote for Colin Powell and John McCain in a heartbeat, but some stupid redneck would probably assassinate Powell if he ever got elected.

I say Oprah, so once a year she can give ALL of us - not just her studio audience - a goodie basket filled with her favorite things.

Another daylight savings time hater here, too lol...........and put me down for one of those goodie baskets, also.

Why McCain? He's a good man, not so rigid that he can't see past his own parties ideas. Is he perfect? Hell no, no one else is, either. He supports campaign finance reform, is pro-life, believes global warming is real and supports efforts to combat it, supports a strong military, is against torturing detainees, and is one of the staunchest opponents of pork-barrel spending.

He is wrong as far as gay marriage goes, in my mind, though, and I still have an eyebrow raised at hearing of him appearing at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University for a speech (though I guess that doesn't mean he and Falwell are going to become buddies).

Ranger, why do the people you know consider him a traitor?

sweetpleaser -> RE: Who would you vote for to be the next President... (4/8/2006 1:51:41 PM)

Jeb Bush is my governor and even tho I am a Democrat, he has done a decent job.  He would have been MUCH better than dubya.  I disagreed with a couple of Jebs decisions but overall he really fights for state's rights.

Saratov -> RE: Who would you vote for to be the next President... (4/8/2006 3:35:16 PM)

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know but, Ross Perot.  Let's try a successful business man instead of a politician maybe lower the national debt. [;)]

Anyone who's not a Republicrat who would offer sane immigration policy (no amnesty), sane foreign policy (stop pissing in everyone's cornflakes, focus on the Americas), sane government (slash that budget in half) and most importantly would ensure my Constitutionally protected rights actually were protected instead of given vapid lip service.

*blinks* Jeb Bush? Are you serious? He might be less coke addled than Dubya but he's no less the neocon poster boy.

And by the by, I don't buy "states' rights" from a politico unless they actually can say with a straight face they believe in the promises of the 9th and 10th amendments.

McCain?? Are you insane? He gives LIP SERVICE to opposing pork barrel spending (he's quite the guilty party himself). How about that campaign finance "reform" that made it easier for the wealthy to influence elections and more difficult for honest issues based organizations (read poor and middle class) to be involved?? I'll agree he's a great card for sercuity and opposition to torture. However, he shifts as the winds blows as much as any other schmuck on Capital Hill on most other issues. I find his rhetoric matches his voting record only slightly better than most of his comrades.

Just made me think of a comment from a friend of mine:
"I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than driving with Ted Kennedy!"
