I am cynical when I try not to help it. But I'm not stupid. I got my college creds--graduated summa cum laude, with honors, phi beta kappa, blah, blah, blah. Opinions about me are telling not for what I am, but for what people assume about me. I like that. We can be as ugly or as hopeful or as naiive as we wanna be. I do believe in Obama. I think a lotta folks are gonna be eating their words. I do believe that. He's different in many ways from so many leaders we're used to. That's why (I believe) there is so much dissension and hyperbole. Because he is a do it, I said it and I meant it guy. No puppetmaster behind the scenes, he's willing to fuck up but he'll put himself out there and take responsibility for doing so. That's refreshing and new. A leader. Iowa is the first in the nation political test with our caucus. It's contentious but it's very cool at the same time. When he came here at the very first inkling of running for president I didn't support him because I didn't believe he had any chance in hell he'd be president. I was cynical (but thought I was pragmatic). He surprised me and he has endured since being elected and he will continue to surprise and get shit done, whether the winds blow with him or not, he's got his shit figured out. I can't see not respecting him for that, at least.
