Bush was an idiot. Almost everything that Obama is facing is the wake of the prior administration.

You know this to be true. You don't care.

Bush had, and still has, more smarts in his little pinky than Obama has in his entire body.

Are you accusing Helen Thomas of "creative writing"? She's the most experienced journalist covering the White House, and she was certainly no friend of Bush.

quote:

Is Obama Avoiding the Press Corps?

At the White House press briefing with Robert Gibbs Monday, the ever-blunt Helen Thomas kicked off a discussion of how long it's been since President Obama has held a White House press conference. Here's how it went:

THOMAS: When is the President going to hold a news conference? Not that you're not adequate.

GIBBS: Well, I appreciate that. (Laughter.) Chip asked this question on Friday --

CHIP REID: Yes, but she'll get an answer. (Laughter.)

GIBBS: Well, she is nicer than you, Chip. (Laughter.)

THOMAS: I mean, he's gone an obscenely long time, not holding one.

GIBBS: I don't see one on the schedule at least in the short term, which is precisely what I said --

THOMAS: Is he avoiding us?

GIBBS: No.
Not avoiding us? Helen thinks the facts suggest otherwise – and she should know, given how long she's been around this place. Maybe saying it's been "obscenely" long overstates it, but it has been a very long time.

Full story here

I wasnt aware she was back in school, Sanity. Know something she doesnt?

I see a man who had never held any power at all in his life, who wakes up every morning as the leader of the free world.

You either have faith in that, or it makes you nervous. I try not to descend into the nastiness we saw from some during the last administration, but I will be much more comfortable with him deprived of control of the pursestrings.

I know what you mean.

If only we could have Sarah in the White House with all of her "executive experience".

Sarah Palin at least HAD some executive experience, Mayor then Governor, before she accepted an offer for a higher executive position. Obama HAD no executive experience at all...and has proven it.

No, he's avoiding my question. Since your popularity rose during the campaign based on your promise to either cancel NAFTA or at least renegotiate it, why have you not talked about it since then, much less taken it on as a priority???

and this all means what?  perhaps you can give us an example of a strongly 'executive experience' president who we were real thankful he had it, because it was what the job needed, somehow made a difference.

I think that the problem is a combination of two things. One, he's far more radical than his handlers can let on, and when he speaks off the cuff then he reveals that. Two, he's in way over his head and that becomes painfully obvious whenever he opens his mouth off script.

Therefore, no teleprompters? No Obama.

And, we haven't heard the term "Brilliant legal scholor" in a while.
Funny, some in the Press were saying last week that Spike Kagan didn't publish a lot of legal material.

(Sorry for the education stuff but I earned it, raising toddlers on my own..not because I'm brilliant, but because I work hard. Why does it bother?)

Tell me, then, how my vision is clouded. Is he not doing what he says he'll do? Is he not taking responsibility (even when it's not really his deal, as in the oil spill)? Where am I missing the mark?

Here are just a few examples of how clouded your vision of Obama is...how he has not done what he said he would do.

During the 2008 Democratic primary he said he would accept public (FCC) funding for the general election just like all the other candidates, Democratic and Republican. However, shortly after becoming the Democratic nominee he changed his mind...becoming the first candidate/nominee of a major party to refuse public funding.

Also during the Democratic primary Obama first said he would withdraw all of our troops from Iraq by the end of 2009 (to differentiate himself from Hillary), then changed that to withdrawing all of our troops out of Iraq within 18-months of taking office, then changed that to withdrawing all of our combat troops from Iraq within 18-months of taking office. Obama obviously didn't do the first of the foregoing and has only two months left to do either of the later...good luck.

Obama also promised to close Gitmo by the end of 2009. We're now almost halfway through 2010 and there's no sign that Obama intends to close Gitmo anytime soon.

Obama also promised to have new proposed legislation posted on the White House web-site for five days before a Congressional vote, and he broke that promise on the very first new proposed legistlation (the stimulus bill).

If you want more your vision isn't clouded...you're blind.

I think we all need to take the pledge, "no more lawyers in the white house."
We can do a lot better than that!

PaHunk, good for The People of Penn. Another one who thought that seat was "His."
Pat Toomey seems to be "the guy" now in Penn. according to what I've read and heard on the news.
Oh, and how is Lou Barletta doing, have you heard?

Popeye,  they changed the online mode of our newspaper.  I guess they want more paid paper readers.  So I am out of the loop on Barletta.   I will say tho that Hazzelton long had other problems. and from what I hear the slide was pretty bold.

We had a beating here locally.  It was a fight over a girl.  But so far- it hasnt blown out to national news.  I will CM you it.

I'm not sure what you might have looked up while researching this topic, but Obama has kept many more campaign promises than he has broken.  Granted, he seems to be having some considerable problems fulfilling some of the biggies, but your statement is woefully incorrect nonetheless.  You can see a remarkably comprehensive list of the promises he's made and the ones he has broken here:

Now, I don't know if you get the internets in your luxuriously appointed trailer or if you only gets to the on-line when you're in town for your methadone treatments, but you might want to research your points a little better unless your goal is to make Sarah Palin look like a Fulbright scholar.

OK so he makes you nervous. That's fine, but why? Since he has become president, what upsets you, explicitly, that is within his direct control?

I talk about his presence and persona because all presidents are limited in what they can accomplish, but what they do impart--forever in history, forever and ever, is their leadership.

You mentioned "control of the purse strings." Is that your main complaint? Because you realize he doesn't control it at all, right?

So if you do, what is it that irks you or makes you nervous?

How does his leadership impact your opinion of him?

Ok, Tee. Let me figure out how to do this. I've been over much of it many times down here in the forum basement. Throw out the "since he became President" qualifier. The concerns I had about candidate Barry did not magically evaporate when he became President Obama. Let me throw a little bit out, and we'll see where it goes.

Broken promises have been mentioned here, but what do they tell us about him? Was he deliberately lying when he pledged to use public campaign funds? I don't think so. The ideal had never been tested though, and when the great big piles of money were there for the taking... The Gitmo promise? Heartfelt, I'm sure, but based on ignorance of the realities, and discarded.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the ability to change direction when faced with new facts, it's the, not getting those facts before picking a limb to climb out on, that gives me pause.

You know that "lack of experience" issue that was so casually dismissed during the campaign? This is it. His proclaimed values of how something should be run had never met the challenges of running something. How can he know how he will handle power, when he has never had any to handle? You must be familiar with the old statement about power corrupting, right? He's never been into any crucible with any sort of power, to see what comes out.

Ethics. Yeah. It's funny, Tee. During the campaign, I would mention that when Sarah Palin encountered the corruption that was running deep in her party, she triggered a scandal that brought down a sitting governor, and that when Obama met it, he got a bigger yard. The only response I ever got was something about "caribou barbie." As we have this conversation, questions are being dodged about attempts to manipulate Specter's campaign by trying to bribe his opponent out of the race.

There are some concerns. Let's see if we can get anyplace.

I'm almost a bit insulted by the insinuation. "Depriving President Obama of the purse strings" is a reference to changing the composition in the House of Representatives.

Do go ahead and assume that I understand the structure of our government, Tee.
