Sanity -> Obama Avoids Tough Questions from Press, Again (5/20/2010 3:29:52 PM)

The most open and transparent presidency EVARRR!!!

Woot woot!

FINALLY - a president who can actually speak with confidence!!!

[/sarcasm]

Has his teleprompter been in the shop getting fixed since last July???

Or what...

Obama Avoids Tough Questions from Press, Again

You may recall that on Monday President Obama refused take any questions from the press (irony alert!) immediately after signing the "Press Freedom Act" in the Oval Office. The president, who hasn't held a prime time press conference since last July, said this was not a press conference and he would have something later in the week. He was presumably referring to today's scheduled "Joint Press Conference" with Mexican President Calderon in the Rose Garden. But so-called "press conferences" with foreign leaders usually allow for only two questions from the White House press corps and two from foreign reporters.

But today he said there was time for only one from each side. And in what I suspect was a White House effort to assure that the questioning was limited to immigration and other issues of U.S.-Mexico concern, he called on the Univision reporter from the U.S. side.

So if his goal was to avoid answering any tough questions about yesterday's elections, or the oil spill in the Gulf, or financial regulation, or Iran, or Afghanistan -- he succeeded.

I can understand the desire of he and his handlers to avoid that opportunity to fuck up. The last one included his comment about the police "acting stupidly," which didn't go over so well.

Of course, the longer he waits, the more time the press corps has to build up some resentment about not getting the chance to do their jobs, and the more issues there are for them to catch him off guard on.

This is an awfully young administration, 17 months, to be taking on the bunker mentality.

I am sick of pretty much anyone who is important.

I do tho- like my cat.

I don't trust your cat. When was the last time he held a press conference? Huh? Answer me that!

Cats are known to be very sneaky, too!

I think that the problem is a combination of two things. One, he's far more radical than his handlers can let on, and when he speaks off the cuff then he reveals that. Two, he's in way over his head and that becomes painfully obvious whenever he opens his mouth off script.

Therefore, no teleprompters? No Obama.

If memory serves me correctly that Bush didn't allow reporters that asked difficult questions onto Airforce One.

Nothing new here...Accept you were unable to criticize Bush for doing the exact same thing.....Only difference Obama is intelligent.

Sanity -> RE: Obama Avoids Tough Questions from Press, Again (5/20/2010 7:22:36 PM)

If Obama's intelligent why is he hiding from the press corps?

And with all the criticism you dish out to Bush and others on your right its just a sorry joke to see you trying to claim that people to your right have no place criticizing Democrats.

domiguy -> RE: Obama Avoids Tough Questions from Press, Again (5/20/2010 7:24:49 PM)

Bush was an idiot. Almost everything that Obama is facing is the wake of the prior administration.

You know this to be true. You don't care.

Sanity -> RE: Obama Avoids Tough Questions from Press, Again (5/20/2010 7:30:41 PM)

You're reaching. Obama can't face the press like Bush did because he's all that and more. And its Bush's fault that Obama can't face hard questions nearly as well as Bush did...

You're funny, too. [:D]

You mean as demonstrated by his record so far?

Sanity -> RE: Obama Avoids Tough Questions from Press, Again (5/20/2010 7:47:55 PM)

Yes, by his record. You recall the boner he pulled at his last press conference don't you?

Last July?

You won't get any Obama bloopers on film at his press conferences - no siree.

Because Obama's too afraid to have any press conferences. Those reporters are too mean...  [:D]

I disagree, Sanity. For one thing, the people around him are just as, if not more, radical than he is. I'm not sure they yet get the whole 'over their heads' thing, either.

No, I don't read minds.
