If you need to believe that our military doesn't effect the quality of your life, go ahead. Enjoy those freedoms . Sleep well .

SirPumpy -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/21/2010 11:50:13 PM)

Im not American but....

I think that the Troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan are protecting your way of life.

I think a lot of the public announcements are for the benefit of the Soldiers more than anything else, something that is fairly important considering how Gulf 1 and Vietnam Vets were treated.

I believe that the Afghan thing is based on Oil as was the Iraqi thing but in Afghanistan that are also chasing the groups that organise bombings on US soil so that makes Afghanistan pre emptive action.

I also think your problem is with the airlines not the military and if your issue is with the military then dont confuse the DOD with the guys and gals on the coal face.

I used to do a lot of flying, these days not so much because its a pain in the arse.

So I Drive interstate.

Melbourne to Sydney 970 km

Melbourne to Adelaide 740 km

Melbourne to Brisbane 1720 km

Melbourne to Perth 3450 km

Sydney is a comfy 12 hour drive, Perth takes 4 or 5 days and Brissy is 20 odd hours depending on how used to this you are.

So I swapped a 75 min flight for a 12 hour drive coz I wasnt happy with the airlines and the bullshit I had to go thru and since then Ive driven to all of the destinations above.

So drive or take a train or bus.

you're all missing the point, so let me put it in plain English for those of you who actually understand it:

Iraq is NOT a part of America. just as Vietnam, Korea or any other country are NOT part of America.

Cops, firemen, doctors or any other similar profession do so HERE IN AMERICA. i am simply saying that those soldiers are NOT fighting for America, they are fighting for Iraq (and what other countries are involved). Now, the National Guard are HERE and doing their job HERE. America's military should stay HERE...not die in some foreign country that is NOT part of HERE (America). do we have comprehension yet?

Actually, that's not entirely true.

Some deployment statistics By Mike Francis April 30, 2009, 4:43PM Military Times crunched some numbers from the Defense Department to determine how many people have deployed, how many have deployed more than once and how many total deployments there have been. You can read the table and accompanying story here. (Subscription required.) Here are the headlines. All figures as of Jan. 31, 2009: Total number of deployments, all branches and reserves: 2,975,881
Total number of people who have deployed, all branches and reserves: 1,882,320
Total number of people who have deployed more than once, all branches and reserves: 703,810
Total active-duty deployments: 2,207,396
Total National Guard deployments: 422,343
Total Reserve deployments: 346,142 Army (and Reserves) total deployments: 1,356,474
Navy (and Reserves): 541,430
Air Force (and Reserves): 705,924
Marines: (and Reserves) 367,745
Coast Guard (and Reserves): 4,308
Actually, another poster on this thread gave you wonderful advice.  If you happen to be such an ingrate that you can't tolerate someone else thanking the military passengers for their service, don't financially support the airline by purchasing tickets.

i don't resent them being overseas as much as the fact that people are saying they are defending OUR COUNTRY (i don't see them defending the USA...they are defending some other country)

Whose country do you think they are defending when they are in Afghanistan?
Or on a base in Germany...or on an aircraft carrier?
Is it honestly your belief that everyone should just stay at home until something happens or is it possible that it is in our enlightened best interest to have an established worldwide presence?

This is coming from someone who pretty much considers herself to be a "bleeding heart liberal" and who very much opposed the war in Iraq.

There's not enough of the cm 'care in the community' brigade on this thread, so I will help out a little here (I'm a giver...)

People who earn more than $100,000 a year should ALWAYS board planes first.

Then it should be circumcised guys, who are then eligible to be publicly thanked over the plane's tannoy for their contribution to penile health and cleanliness.

Of course if a rich guy with no foreskin wants to board, then the coach class passengers should carry him on-board and kiss his feet before they leave the plane and go to the back of the boarding queue.

Glad I could help...[:D]

You forgot subs...our self-confidence is too low to board the plane alone and without assistance and guidance afterall! [;)]

Soooo no Trailways for Mikey then?

around here, it's Greyhound and they suck also...but that's an entirely different issue. my complaints are: praising the military for "Defending Our Country" in another country that is NOT part of "THIS COUNTRY" and that the military are seated first before anyone else, i.e. elderly and handicapped individuals (something that's not being addressed here either)

America: home of the blind hypocrites.

certainly NOT America. When did these countries become part of America? why are they not paying their taxes to this country? They aren't doing a damned thing for THIS COUNTRY. it's NOT AMERICA'S job to take care of them...stick to home...let's close the boarders all over and let the rest of the world handle their on DAMN problems. We should NOT be over there AT ALL.

angelikaJ -> RE: Arilines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 8:30:15 AM)

Mike,

1) We are in Afghanistan because of ______.

A bit of research and you should be able to find a well documented answer.
(I am not sure how you missed that connection and it's importance to our welfare)

Do you think we are in Germany to take care of them... I think you missed the other part of my post.

I did ask you a question and I will follow it up with another.
(A question means I wish to engage in a dialogue with you)

Is it honestly your belief that everyone should just stay at home until something happens or is it possible that it is in our enlightened best interest to have an established worldwide presence?

Also, why do you think we have millitary bases in other countries during times of peace?

myotherself -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 8:35:02 AM)

...and we subs get to board on our hands and knees...[:D]

laurell3 -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 8:36:57 AM)

which is really hard because of the gravel and stairs and stuff, not to mention humiliating, which further lowers our self-esteem causing us to need more "being treated badly"

I love this game!

I'm honestly surprised to read this, I've had nothing but awesome experiences with Greyhound buses. I find the buses very comfortable and the drivers courteous and friendly....and I suffer hip pain that makes it hard for me to sit for long periods of time. Can't beat the prices and quick passage through Customs also.

As for the issue of disabled people being allowed to board planes first, that has never been an issue, I've been asked if I want to board even before they start making announcements at boarding time.
