ORIGINAL: mikeyOfGeorgia ok, the short of it all is: They should NOT be THANKED for defending THIS COUNTRY as they are NOT DEFENDING it at all They should NOT be boarded first, especially ahead of those needing assistance or the handicapped. pure and simple...this is ALL i'm discussing from this point forward. i will NOT be arguing whether or not they should be over there or who sent them or why... 'nuff said. The "short" of it is THIS: The mere existance of the military, regardless of where they are or what they are doing is defending our country. You don't have to agree with where they are or what they are doing. As it has been pointed out to you several times, our men and women in uniform are following orders on where they go. I, for one (and I'm sure I'm not alone), am THRILLED that our country is finally recognizing that our service men and women are deserving of our respect and gratitude, regardless of whether or not we agree with what they are doing at the moment. Whether or not the handicapped should be boarded before them depends on a variety of circumstances. How much "assistance" does the particular handicapped person need, how mobile are they, etc. Regardless of that, I also personally believe that those who can't manage to respect our military personnel for what they are doing shouldn't have the rights that the military manages to keep available to them and possibly need to go somewhere else. Just as an aside, the "handicap" of ignorance wouldn't have gotten you on the plane any sooner.
