Ok, back on point and tabling everything else

if you're going to thank the military for anything, thank them for defending whatever country they are defending and stop thanking them for defending America. (all other arguments are no longer an issue here, so let's move on to what i started this thread for in the first place). and certainly do not seat them ahead of those who need assistance getting onto planes. leave everything else out of this as it is not the issue here. go to those threads that deal with the whats and whys of the war. this is ONLY for the issue of THANKING them or boarding them first.

FOCUS PEOPLE.

I believe you have that backwards.

no...i have that right...i'd launch the missiles just to end all the wars and be done with it.

I see.....someone thanking US troops is offensive.....blowing up the world is not....mhm........med check aisle 4!

pahunkboy -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 5:33:13 PM)

But what is a thank you?

People say it- and it is like "how are you?"   it is just words.   Just be glad the plane did not crash.

GreedyTop -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 6:09:40 PM)

I say thank you for your service to military personnel. is that an issue for you too,or is this REALLY about having to wait a few extra minutes to board, mikey?

mikeyOfGeorgia -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 6:12:38 PM)

i won't thank them for defending America...because, if they were, they'd be IN America...not overseas. they are defending other countries, NOT AMERICA. if they should be thanked, they should be thanked for defending that other country (THAT'S THE POINT). READ ALL THE WORDS, NOT HALF OF THEM

IN this case, I think it's meant more as shorthand for 'defending the American ideals of democracy, freedom of speech, and those other rights we - as Americans - so often take for granted, and would like to see take hold elsewhere in the world'

let me repeat myself since you missed it before.

I wouldn't want to step on any toes but is it okay if I pick up the slack even though I'm not from the Southern States?

sure.  just remember that bless and heart have 2 syllables each when it is said..

FR.

This whole debate confuses me, the plane is going to leave at the same time, no matter who gets on, in what order.

You pay a ticket price, first class board as they want, the rest is usually done by numbers.

Or am i being too simplistic???

LafayetteLady -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 7:16:05 PM)

ok, the short of it all is:

They should NOT be THANKED for defending THIS COUNTRY as they are NOT DEFENDING it at all
They should NOT be boarded first, especially ahead of those needing assistance or the handicapped.

pure and simple...this is ALL i'm discussing from this point forward. i will NOT be arguing whether or not they should be over there or who sent them or why... 'nuff said.

The "short" of it is THIS:

The mere existance of the military, regardless of where they are or what they are doing is defending our country. You don't have to agree with where they are or what they are doing. As it has been pointed out to you several times, our men and women in uniform are following orders on where they go.

I, for one (and I'm sure I'm not alone), am THRILLED that our country is finally recognizing that our service men and women are deserving of our respect and gratitude, regardless of whether or not we agree with what they are doing at the moment.

Whether or not the handicapped should be boarded before them depends on a variety of circumstances. How much "assistance" does the particular handicapped person need, how mobile are they, etc.

Regardless of that, I also personally believe that those who can't manage to respect our military personnel for what they are doing shouldn't have the rights that the military manages to keep available to them and possibly need to go somewhere else.

Just as an aside, the "handicap" of ignorance wouldn't have gotten you on the plane any sooner.

mikeyOfGeorgia -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 7:20:23 PM)

if they ARE NOT IN AMERICA...then they ARE NOT DEFENDING AMERICA, pure and simple. in any case, if one MUST thank them...thank them for the country THEY ARE DEFENDING (NOT FOR DEFENDING AMERICA). when other countries actually BECOME PART OF AMERICA, then i won't acknowledge their efforts as DEFENDING AMERICA ('nuff said)

KatyLied -> RE: Airlines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 7:23:08 PM)

Defending the U.S interests in other countries = defending the U.S.  It really *is* that simple.

If you think that you can live in a world that is insular and not global, you are deluding yourself.

But "eh" still has only one, Zeph!

thatsub -> RE: Arilines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 8:46:24 PM)

Last time that happend to me in an airport, I was actually happy to one of the last few people to board the plane. My seat was already assigned and I knew when plane would take off, so there was no need for me to rush into uncomfortable small seat and wait in line to get into that crappy seat. I usually just wait outside of the gate w/o even getting into the line of people boarding the plane - why bother being first?
