Soooo no Trailways for Mikey then?

around here, it's Greyhound and they suck also...but that's an entirely different issue. my complaints are: praising the military for "Defending Our Country" in another country that is NOT part of "THIS COUNTRY" and that the military are seated first before anyone else, i.e. elderly and handicapped individuals (something that's not being addressed here either)

America: home of the blind hypocrites.

feel free to go somewhere else and find your bliss......

I wouldn't want to step on any toes but is it okay if I pick up the slack even though I'm not from the Southern States?

and what does this have to do with airlines or flying?

Two things. First, he doesn't like the idea of defending our country on other people's soil, which has always seemed to me to be the best way to do it. Second he was pissed at Delta (they are the ones who have the SkyMiles mileage program) for putting people that he doesn't approve of what they are doing ahead of him. I will note that the common practice is to board people who are in wheelchairs first, then the airlines elite flyers and first and/or business class travelers first, then people with lesser handicaps then the rest of the people by whatever seating rules they have. Some airlines will board military personnel in uniform with their elite flyers. It depends on the airline whether or not they do it. It would probably piss the OP off that military traveling under orders and in uniform often get free baggage and more and heavier bags than the general public. In the case of the standard military duffle, size as well. But it must be checked so he probably never saw that.

I see nothing wrong with supporting our armed forces that way. I remember the Vietnam days where soldiers were subject to abuse for being in the military, especially if they served overseas. The anti-war movement changed their tactics this time around but that is a totally different thread.

Be well.....

Malkinius

Thats because polar bears take up too much room in the economy seats - and refuse to buy first class tickets. Therefore, polar bears are banned.

LadyPact -> RE: Arilines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 1:57:46 PM)

Thinking about this a bit more, I do have one tidbit more for this thread.

Freedom of Speech.  Except for those areas such as yelling "Fire" in a crowded theater, that flight attendant gets to say anything she damn well pleases.  Even if you don't like it, OP.

I guess the military doesn't fight for that, either.

and dont forget the tail fee.   it costs extra.

laurell3 -> RE: Arilines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 2:03:02 PM)

Exactly and thank you LP. My father died in Viet Nam when I was very young. I remember being in high school and watching movies about the protests against the soliders coming home and people spitting in the faces of young men that were broken and hurt and stuggling. The thought occurred to me that I should be offended by it, but then the thought occurred to me that he enlisted to preserve their freedom however ill-formed I found their beliefs to be.

But Mikey won't see that...he's too busy taking the administration's issues out on the ones that truly intend to protect us and he's deaf to anything other than that.

Makes sense. In any case the really nice folk at Greyhound are more than happy to have polar bears travel on their buses and it's cheaper too [:)]

Silly ..... polar bears don't have a tail....or get tail ....or want tail .... or something. I forget! [&o]

Have.....we want it..............but sometimes we don't get it.

hope that clears things up for you.

you're all missing the point, so let me put it in plain English for those of you who actually understand it:

No Mikey, you're the one missing the point.

Two basic concepts - firstly the military or armed forces, soldiers, airmen, etc.

The second is politicians. Politicians are not part of the military. Politicians are members of what is known as a government, people who make decisions for and on behalf of people of a country.

quote:

ORIGINAL: mikeyOfGeorgia

Iraq is NOT a part of America. just as Vietnam, Korea or any other country are NOT part of America.

Okay, so we now know that the military isn't the government, and that politicians in the government are not part of the military.

The thing is the United States has both a military and a government, and so do other countries. These governments from different countries communicate with each other - it's called international politics or world politics. This is why you have a very important politician who fulfils the role of Foreign Minister, to deal with other governments in other countries, and also oversee embassies, consulates and so on.

quote:

ORIGINAL: mikeyOfGeorgia

Cops, firemen, doctors or any other similar profession do so HERE IN AMERICA. i am simply saying that those soldiers are NOT fighting for America, they are fighting for Iraq (and what other countries are involved). Now, the National Guard are HERE and doing their job HERE. America's military should stay HERE...not die in some foreign country that is NOT part of HERE (America). do we have comprehension yet?

Okay, let me see if I can try and keep this very simple for you.

You have just been travelling on an airplane, which is a rather large vehicle (much bigger than a car and also bigger than a truck or lorry) which has wings sticking out of the side because it flies in the air to transport people a long distance in a short period of time. Every day thousands of airplanes fly out of and into the United States carrying people. Many of these people who get on these planes are American who travel to different parts of the world for various reasons. Some of these Americans don't live in America, but they live in other countries. However they remain American.

They have the same rights as any other American, and that is to be defended by the military. This is why in most other countries you have buildings known as US Embassies and Consulates.

Now if you look at a map of the United States you will see that there is another country to the north of the United States which is called Canada. There is also another country to the south which is known as Mexico. Both west and east of the United States you have water, lots of salty water known as the sea, in fact very large areas of water known as oceans - the Pacific Ocean to the west and Atlantic Ocean to the east.

The only way you can attack the United States is by using an airplane and using bombs or other things to kill people. This happened in 1941 in Pearl Harbour, and it also happened in 2001 with the World Trade Center.

Unfortunately until crystal balls become standard issue in the US military or US servicemen develop reliable powers of clairvoyance defending the United States means sending US military forces abroad to other countries in order to defend the United States.

How else do you expect the US military to defend the United States? By magic?

Exactly. Plus the old ladies have really bad eyesight and mistake us for large dogs, really good for a nice scritch behind the ears.

windchymes -> RE: Arilines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 3:08:51 PM)

Simply put, sending troops to another country to keep them from invading OUR country IS defending our country!  Duh.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Arilines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 3:25:09 PM)

When were Iraq or Afghanistan a threat to invade the United States?

I mostly agree with Mikey. You can, technically,  make a broad argument that troops fighting in Afghanistan are defending the US from terrorists supported by the Taliban, but it's a stretch. And no American soldier in Iraq is "defending" the United States from a damned thing, no matter how thin you stretch the argument. I get pretty sick myself of people falling over themselves thanking troops in Iraq for keeping us safe. It's a complete crock of shit, and the argument as it applies to Afghanistan isn't much better.

LadyPact -> RE: Arilines: questions, comments and complaints (5/22/2010 3:29:48 PM)

Panda, good to see you.

The thing is, when you enter into military service, you don't get the option of chopping up the military oath.  It says all enemies foreign and domestic.  They people who are serving aren't the ones who make the decisions about exactly who that is.

i had family die (needlessly, i might add) in both Korea and Vietnam. America should NOT have been there either and fighting in those countries had NOTHING to do with DEFENDING AMERICA.

How is that not invading a country? What would then constitute an invasion?
