No, it's because you make faulty decisions based on them that may not be correct for the situation. Having an open mind that is free from stereoptype or some preperceived notion of what others are or should be is what allows us to actually see, hear, read and discern what they really ARE about and what they feel. Try it.

SocratesNot -> RE: Maledom relationships vs. Femdom relationships (5/23/2010 6:52:17 PM)

Many sciences are completely based on generalizations. They include medicine and psychiatry. While every patient is different and individual, and every disease is unique to the patient affected, descriptions of physical and mental diseases and also of personality types are completely based on generalizations.
If they avoided generalizations at all costs, the sciences of medicine, psychology, psychiatry and many others would be very underdeveloped today, and life expectancy of population would be much shorter.

No one here is avoiding generalizations at all costs. I make no effort to be politically correct. I was making a statement that you can't generalize that way. And the problem with generalizing in such a way is that it gives you a limited view of the world.

Cloudboy made some interesting observations that play into stereotypes. For example, MY profile does not correspond to a 'Femdom profiles often read like a job description for which the man needs to apply and demonstrate his worthiness.'

His post but they were also heterosexist. So go figure.

Did you see this wonderful word OFTEN?
OFTEN is completely different from ALWAYS.
So, the fact that your profile does not belong to this group which he described with the word OFTEN, does not imply that his statement is not true.

I think that it is also bad to avoid generalizations at all costs, because without some generalizations we wouldn't be able to form any concepts in our minds and we would have very limited knowledge of the world.
What I personally think is that the reason why generalizations are avoided at all costs are those of political correctness rather than real desire for truth.

i have to disagree with you here.  Nobody is more opposed to political correctness than i am.  But that doesn't mean that generalizations are a good thing.  Moreover, nobody is "avoiding generalizations at all cost".  You added that element.

Every relationship is different.  Thus, if you want truth, you have to avoid generalizations and dig deeper.  The only universal truth that you will find in the generalizations is that in the femdom relationship the woman is in charge, and in the maledom relationship the man is in charge.  Most other "truths" are going to depend on the individuals involved.

If you truly seek truth, dig deeper.  Peel back the layers of the onion and discover what each layer contains.  The generalizations are equivalent to saying "the onion is round".  Not a lot of meaningful insight there.

i tend to agree w/ LadyA.

No, saying that in maledom relationship the man is in charge and in femdom relationship the woman is in charge is equivalent to saying "the onion is round".

It is so obvious!

While I agree that generalizations can REALLY be a bad thing, I must admit that I think that LadyA's initial response was no more then thread killer.

But what is apparently not obvious to you is that relationships are splendidly diverse.  [;)]

Still goin' at it huh? Making friends? Feeling the love?

I like to generalize that folks who take the screen name of dead philosophers are knuckleheads.

I feel quite comfortable with that.

No, I actually took the screen name of the NEGATION of the name of dead philosopher [;)].

Why I did it? Because I admire Socrates a lot. He is my favorite philosopher. However, I am so insignificant in comparison to him.
So, I am NOT Socrates, but I like him, and I incorporated his name in my nick.

Cool, isn't it?

Jeffff -> RE: Maledom relationships vs. Femdom relationships (5/23/2010 7:31:05 PM)

That's cooler

Firstly, you might want to chill with the sarcastic tone. You aren't winning friends here lately so you might want to tone it down. None of us are obligated to help you out with your much needed education.

Yes I saw the word often. That is still a generalization which in fact, proves my point.

Why? Because everyone agreed with me except for one person?

You seem to not like answers that don't support your point of view. If that's the case, perhaps discussion boards aren't the right medium for you. Perhaps you should blog.

Jeffff -> RE: Maledom relationships vs. Femdom relationships (5/23/2010 7:40:34 PM)

Don't start with the Bible, it is designed to repress self esteem.

Find me ONE bible verse that's say's it's ok to be who you are.... you can't.

Blow Me.

This is not true.
LadyNTrainer did not agree completely with you, but she instead tried to REALLY ANSWER THE QUESTION and not to just state the obvious facts as you did.
Also, cloudboy REALLY ANSWERED THE QUESTION. And also kevin. You don't have to count him if you don't want, if you think he is too much into fantasy.
And me.
This is so far 4 people. And some more also answered the question, not so detailed like LNT and cloudboy, but they at least answered the question in a constructive way.
What you did is to make parody of the thread.

Bastard!

I concede the point..:)
