First, definitions:
s-types: boys / subs / slaves
D-types: Doms / Tops / Masters / Daddies
F-types: "trolls, fake doms, and general idiots." Includes false wanna-be D-types - "If I show I'm a Dominant, I'll get laid."
In the "good old days" (if there ever was such a thing) that is, pre-internet, the Leather Doms protected their s-types from the F-types by a simple, easy method. Almost all socializing and training and communication took place face-to-face in the leather bar. That made it very easy for the D-types to exclude those fake-types.
You had to build a reputation. That's the problem with the internet. ANYONE can say, "I'm Lord, High Master of Fungus. You will bow and kiss my athlete's foot." And there's no one out there to help the poor, pure "twue" s-types get a clue.
Sure, the s-types talked amongst themselves (and the D-types chuckled at their naivete.) To continue the Godfather analogy, the s-types were the molls. Rhymes with and has a sense of "dolls."
No subbie mafia was necessary. We protected our valuable, useful men. We trained them and armed them against those F-types. We didn't let the F-types into our closed, exclusive culture. (Note that I did NOT say "elitist.")
Think a black church in the ghetto. You're welcome to visit, but to really "join" the church, you'd better have creds. You can build those creds, but you're not singing in the choir the first Sunday you attend, now, are you?
