Snopes lists the four times Reagan missed Arlington, but I wasn't able to cut and paste the text.

That would be 1981, 1983, 1987 and 1988.

Becks lastest mad rants

Glenn Beck Apologizes for Mocking Obama's Daughter

quote:

In his radio show, "The Glenn Program" on Premiere Radio Networks, Beck mocked Malia Obama for asking her father if he'd managed to stop oil from continuing to spill out into the Gulf of Mexico. At a news conference Thursday, the president recounted how his daughter had asked him, "Did you plug the hole yet, Daddy?" -- in an effort to illustrate how all Americans are anxious about the BP oil rig that's now become America's worst oil spill in history.

Afterward Beck made fun of the anecdote, imitating Malia in a squeaky voice.

"Daddy? Daddy? Daddy, did you plug the hole yet? Daddy?" he said. Then Beck's co-host Pat Gray responded as if he were the president.

"Honey, not yet... Not time yet, honey. Hasn't done enough damage," Gray said.

Then Beck took his argument a step further, saying the exchange reveals something about Malia's education. The 11-year-old and her 9-year-old sister Sasha go to Sidwell Friends, an exclusive and high-performing academy that's sometimes called "the Harvard of Washington's private schools."

"'Did you plug the hole yet, daddy?' Is that's their -- that's the level of their education, that they're coming to -- they're coming to daddy and saying 'Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?'" Plug the hole!" Beck said on his Friday morning radio show.

Later in the 4-minute segment, Beck turned the routine toward Obama's race. "Why do you hate black people so much?" he said, still imitating Malia in a baby voice.

"I'm part white, honey," Gray responded in the voice of the president.

Friday's segment ran just two days after another piece on Beck's radio program in which he decried critics of Sarah Palin's family. "Leave people's families alone. I don't think I've ever... We've never done anything but protect families... Leave families alone," he said at the time.

Under criticism from liberal blogs like Media Matters and others, Beck issued an apology saying, "I broke my own rule about leaving kids out of political debates."

"The children of public figures should be left on the sidelines," Beck wrote. "It was a stupid mistake and I apologize -- and as a dad I should have known better."

It isn't mandatory. It is bad politics for him to miss it, though, no matter how good the speech President Obama wound up giving on an Air Force base was. He isn't Bush I or II, nor Clinton or Reagan. His decision was made in these times, and in the political climate we have right now. It isn't going to play well, and it was his decision to add the image of his stand-in placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns on the plates of the talking heads. Unforced error.

Yup.   I think we should impeach.

At least the whole ugly thing is over.

Now what will he do over the oil spill?

I knew he would fail-- but I thought he would at least be  a 1 term prez.

Is the Illuminati trying to tell us something?

Images of BIDEN doing Arlington.   Something to ponder.

edit- ok- he tried to make it right- as seen here.   I am glad for that.  12 miles West of Chicago- I think that is where my dad was in- (vet hospital)

Such an extremist, Pahunk. I'll settle for shaving another couple points off his approval ratings as we head into the mid-term election.

Tazzy? If I don't watch Beck, and don't like Beck, why would I want to read him? Or are you jumping on the "define all conservatives by the craziest people you can find" bandwagon?

pahunkboy -> RE: Obama Memorial Day Speech Cut Short By Rain (6/1/2010 6:31:51 AM)

Just think.  By summers end  he will be sitting out, sipping Tea on Trent Lotts front porch.

STOMP!    lol.

Lucy,  how come the liberal media no longer counts our war dead?

Under Bush- we heard 1000, 2000, 3000.  But now I hear silence.

Why?

We also heard a lot more about collateral damage....

A powerful laser can be shot into humid air to cause intense water condensation, scientists have discovered. The technology has the potential to replace cloud seeding widely used today.
When a short laser pulse is shot into the air, it forms a path of ionised nitrogen and oxygen. Some military researchers want to use this “plasma channel” to conduct electricity in futuristic direct energy weapons, but there appears to be a peaceful application. The ionized molecules act as natural nuclei for water condensation and can potentially be used to cause rain/snip

bondmaid123 -> RE: Obama Memorial Day Speech Cut Short By Rain (6/1/2010 10:45:39 AM)

I'm completely amused by this whole fiasco.

Memorial Day is a recognition of military dead. Not current troops (although I myself use the opportunity of the reminder of that "ultimate sacrifice" to thank those I know who are or have served our country, too... but that's an EMBELLISHMENT, not the purpose).

Obama went to a cemetary to participate in a memorial observance (after going to get a handle on perhaps the worst ecological disaster in the known history of the world?). He didn't disregard the spirit of the day. If somebody is so hidebound and narrow-minded as to presume that the ONLY valid recognition of those sacrifices is a trip to Arlington, well... that is rather telling of the validity of their observations as a whole, to me. I expect Arlington just gets used for the "formal observances" because it is, frankly, convenient.

This column details the farcical nature of this and many previous "scandals."

Lizbetbathory -> RE: Obama Memorial Day Speech Cut Short By Rain (6/1/2010 12:56:52 PM)

not to disrespect the  vets or anyone when I say this but why does the prez HAVE TO go to arlington? why not jefferson barracks or some small town where a child gave the ultimate sacrifice? yes arlington is big and well known but it isnt the only place soldiers are buried
