catfightservice -> Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 2:24:49 PM)

So lets stir thepot once again. Wht do we think of gay marriage? Im definately for it. I wouldnt want to be a part of one, but I fully support those that do. Doesn't bother me in the least who people marry. Everyone has the right to their own personal happiness.

pahunkboy -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 2:31:03 PM)

I am for it.  Even tho- I doubt I would marry.

Jeffff -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 2:34:57 PM)

I have been married. I can't recommend it.

I think gay folks should have the opportunity to be misserable too.

MstrPBK -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 2:42:41 PM)

I have no objection to it ...

My secondary question would be is if the GLBT community really fight for an INCLUSIVE Marriage law that would embrace EVERYONE under the GLBT Flag ... that would (from my stand point) the BDSM community.

I would like to have a civil union that is equal in all respects to any other civil marriage that would be adopted by all states.  I think "marriage" bothers some people and of course any religion can do whatever it pleases.  But love is love and the desire to have a formal, legal mate is not the sole property of heterosexuals.

I've been married.  I highly recommend it.  I believe gay people should have the same opportunity for happiness.

popeye1250 -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 3:00:56 PM)

For. If it makes two people happy then why not?

MC4Misfit -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 3:35:26 PM)

I am in a same sex marriage, and like it that way.

The only issue I have is that the state we live in doesn't recognize it, so I have to execute my will, etc. in Vermont, not New York.  That is main reason for people are pushing for same sex marriage;  the legal benefits.  As far as NY is concerned, we're just friends and don't get any of the benefits of marriage (next of kin for instance).

I know religion was mentioned, and I will point out the Supreme Court ruled a long time ago that the courts can't force a church to perform any of their rites.  That means that a church can refuse to marry anyone they want and there's no legal recourse.  It's a 'freedom of religion" thing.  I do feel that's fair.

MC,

why would you wreck your Social Security, (which may or may not be there)?

that would make me nervous.

some gays in like 4 counties ran into a bunch of trouble per that./ok- not rec by state.  Sorry

That's not only misspelled but old.  Sorry, you're usually so original.  I was taken aback.

I think that if people want to get married, they should be allowed.  I don't understand why some people have such a problem with it.

KatyLied -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 5:12:50 PM)

I am for it.  If same sex couples wish to be legally bound I think they should have that option, along with the benefits/risks that are involved with it.

laurell3 -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 5:17:46 PM)

Definitely for it. Imposing archaic values and calling it law is ridiculous.

Why?  What would be the point?

"We"?  Are you some sort of royalty?

Seriously, I do not think of gay marriage.  Unless someone brings it up.  I really just do not spend my extra time pondering it.
quote:

 Im definately for it.

That is nice.
quote:

I wouldnt want to be a part of one,

Why is that?
quote:

but I fully support those that do.

Gosh.  That is big of you.  "Fully support," is interesting.  Do you give money to groups fighting for this?  March in rallies?  Conduct letter writing campaigns?  Arrange activist fundraisers and awareness campaigns?

What do you mean by, "fully support" anyways?  My guess is that you talk a good talk but do not actually DO anything.
quote:

Doesn't bother me in the least who people marry.

Especially when you do not even know the people.  Otherwise of course you would stand up at that part of the ceremony and state your objection.  After all, how can you object if you have no idea who is marrying who and when and where it is happening.

Everyone has the right to their own personal happiness.

No.  No they do not.  That is such a silly fairy tale.

Let me put it this way. . . if my personal happiness involved drawing and quartering you, would I have that right?

I know that according to what you have just wrote, that I have it.  But lets live in the meat world for a moment.  DO I HAVE THAT RIGHT?  Oh. . . the same goes for rapists, serial killers, embezzlers. . .the list goes on.

Yeah.  That is what I thought.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 5:24:48 PM)

I don't see that gays marrying degrades the whole concept of marraige. Therefore, i am for it.

Often this problem is rooted in religion.  I know people who would support "civil union" but not agree to "marriage" for gay couples.  Some people are fearful of things that are not in their experience.  Some people have closed minds.

I've been married too.

I think gays should run screaming in the opposite direction and avoid it at all costs.

Christian fundamentalists are unwittingly doing them a favor.

DarlingSavage -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 5:46:26 PM)

Yeah, I realize that the people who are most against it are the same ones that believe that gay people are going to hell.  I've also heard the whole thing about it defying the sanctity of marriage.  Actually, I think the alleged "sanctity of marriage" has seen better days.   I guess what I should have said is that I don't understand why some people are so closed minded.  I don't understand why some people find it necessary to be all up in other people's business.  As long as a person isn't causing harm to others, either directly or indirectly, what difference does it make?  We need to be more concerned about the sanctity of human dignity and human rights.  Or how about the sanctity of the environment on which we all depend for life?

KatyLied -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 5:51:08 PM)

I think it is sad that some people can't imagine, in a positive manner, people and experiences that are beyond their scope.  It makes them small.

Lucylastic -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 6:15:29 PM)

Absofreakinlutely for it.
Loving someone and  being married  to them shouldnt be inclusive to hets

thornhappy -> RE: Gay mariaage? For it? Against it? Dont Care? (5/31/2010 9:42:03 PM)

If I ran the world (not too bloody likely!), everyone would just get civil unions, same-sex or not.  Marriages would be fer the churches to perform (that sanctity bit).

They do.  That is why you have to file paperwork and pay those fees.

Ummm. . . what about the "justice of the peace" marriages?  Because I and the other half had that sort.  We had a judge marry us.  What happens to people that want a marriage that do not have a church they believe in?  Or are of different faiths, such as Jewish and Baptist?
