Damn! Ive removed my white hood to write this tongue in cheek rant but as I was replying to a PM just now I got a pop up compliments of CM.com........... It told me that the word Nigger was on the forums banned words list and that I was very naughty and would be dealt with. Actually it was far more boring than that but the issue is that I hadn't used the word Nigger, Id written the word Snigger. My issues are as follows.... We have no freedom of speech as we have no constitutional rights to free speech since political correctness. I was not typing the derogatory term for African American, I was typing a word describing a form of laughter. The word the forum objects to is one used by African Americans many millions of times a day. And why on earth is there word censorship on an adult forum presumably filled with adults who should not need to be censored and treated like children? After all Ive seen in print the word Cunt which i find far more offensive and is a derogatory term for one of my favourite foods. Food for thoughT. SP

Crikey! Yes I did mean food for thought. Weird that the PM system is censored and the forum is not, probably a missed setting. What the popup actually says is "The page at collarme.com says 'nigger' rejected by content filter"

The reason why it got flagged in the PM and not here is because the forums can be (and are) moderated by humans, while PMs cannot, thus there is a list of no-no words that get flagged automatically by the PM program. Here on the forums the moderators would be able to see if the word in question is offensive or not and thus decide to either allow it or to squash the post. That's my guess at any rate.

I believe that is the only word that is filtered. We had a thread about this a few months ago where several of us were trying out different words to see what was filtered and what was not, and if memory serves that was the only word we found that was filtered out. I always get a kick out of people who go ballistic when someone uses the word "niggardly." I figure if you're too stupid to know anything about the language, you've got no business complaining about what other people say.

Sorry Mate, but you pointed out the one word that I think should be banned anywhere. If African Americans want to use it in an ironic fashion, why not? They've sort of earned it after being treated like shit for several centuries. I have some good solid black friends who know that I will be the first up when I hear that word when we are out, and it happens, it happens too damned often. Not acceptable. It's a small price to pay to avoid sounding like you are using that term, especially as the word snigger did have it's day during the english comic boom in the sixties. Chuckle sounds better.

Snigger sounds dirtier though where a chuckle is way too wholesome for me. Its all about context, Mel Brooks for instance in the film Blazing Saddles used the N word a fair bit and copped hell because of it and yet in context the use of the word was fine, funny and well in context. Even Chris Rock said publicly that the cringe associated with the use of the N word was more Liberal white cringe than with your work a day Afro American who honestly didnt give a shit. Eddy Murphy agrees and many other leading African American public figures also believe that the word and use of the word isn't as bad as its made out to be. And in the Southern states I heard it used many times a day when I was last there and often in an affectionate and irreverent way not associated with cross burnings or church fires. Maybe I don't quite get it as we only have our indigenous people and there are very few Aboriginals in the Southern Australian states (We shot them all and drove them off cliffs early in the last century.) Arpig, you make perfect sense mate and im guessing you are probably 100% correct. Reynardfox I can understand how people get offended by name calling but the bigger man (Or woman) will ignore it and chalk it up to ignorance. The smaller man (Or woman) will bite hard which is exactly what the other person wants and there will be no converts and no winners, infact the opposite happens as this will bring joy to the bigot and prove their point reinforcing their beliefs.

Yeah, join the club! I was called a "bigot" and a "racist" because I started a thread about "Community Organizers" over in "Politics and Religion!" I used the term "poor neighborhood" which I think is leftist "code" for "black." Only I grew up in a "poor neighborhood!" And I'm white! "Community Organizers!!!" Somehow if you talk about them it's , "racist" and "bigotted" to the leftists and communists. I wonder what the next "key phrase" will be that they jump on? Someone said that after they go against the second amendment they'll go after the first. "Political correctness" is nothing more than communistic thinking!

I fight Political correctness every day. I use non PC terms sensibly and with humour as I have for many years. Fortunately Australia doesn't have much in the way of legal groups to enforce PC behaviour, like NAACP etc So keep up the good work and enjoy your life the way you want to
