Many dogs are smarter then men.

Both take up space-  but a dog is actually useful.

Very well said...gives me now even more reason to go for two dogs once I move :o)

So far I only had the defence "as more I know about men as more I love my cats!" ...

I was thinking about Jefff when I posted that.

From a veteran of quite a few empty holes left in my heart.......I empathize with your heart pain.

It fucking sucks.

I'm sorry for your loss. He was very handsome! The worst part for me about loving my pets is that i go into it knowing i'll only have what i consider to be a short time with them. I know there are no guarantees with pets - or people - but they steal your heart, love you unconditionally and we have to let them go too soon...

I wouldn't change it though...they bring SO much joy into our lives. I've fallen in love in minutes, and mourned them for years.
I still miss my Oscar...

I hope your pain eases, and that you can let another love into your heart, when the time is right.

Oh Aileen. I was thinking the last couple of days, earlier today how I am not over my precious dog who died on December 26 2008. She was so fabulous she waited til the day after Christmas. I adopted her off the street in Manhattan and she was born ancient by trauma in Harlem. She had such a loathsome beginning it took her 6 years to finally chill out. I had her since she was about three months and I adored every tiny hair on her.

I ache in my chest for her and dont understand why she is gone when so many ridiculous things remain.

I know how much it hurts.

The photo you took is gorgeous and would make a great larger framed print. I do paintings of pets and this picture already looks like a painting. You have a very pretty photographic eye, deep and yet so full of light.

I'm sorry for your loss. I've lost several over the years (I used to raise and show Yorkies), and each one has left his/her paw print on my heart. I have no words of wisdom to offer you, other than to remember that while he was with you he had the best possible home he could have.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown..

My sincerest sympathies, Aileen. I agree that the pic of your furbaby is magnificent & it should be framed!

My lady neighbor talks of getting another.

I still miss my parrot.

Some day I hope to get another one- but maybe not until I can move.

Wouldnt this be toooo far out if this really happened? I would love that, I might die of happiness if I saw my Lucy again.

If I got to spend eternity with all my fur babies...........how wonderful that would be.

Although.....thinking about the personalities of a few, there would be MAJOR Diva issues. Bella, the gorgeous shepherd mix rescue I lost in '05' and Sophie the big eared little terror I have now, would have the bitchfight to end all bitchfights.
