You really need to learn how to read sarcasm, pahunk.

Im waiting on tables... not saving lives. If he doesnt want to tip, then stay home and cook or go drive through.

In eight years as a supper club manager I was always interested to see that the best tippers were other restaurant workers out for a night;  the worse "tippers" were the wives or girl friends whe would skim a bill or two off the tip on the way out.

Im always happy to take care of industry people. Free deserts or drinks, smiles all around. And yes, its because i know they tip extremely well. Just as i do when i visit their restaurants.

...tho one could smile- say thank you- have a nice day.

this should suffice.

And one could be paying 4 times the cost of the meal if they didnt tip the server.

The label the price in a truthful manner.  Then everyone will be happy.

tazzygirl -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 6:24:35 PM)

It is labeled in a "truthful" manner based upon the wages of all restaurant workers. Tipping is expected and customary. You dont have to tip. You dont have to go out to eat either.

pahunkboy -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 6:31:27 PM)

The why play games?

peek-a-boo prices and pissed off waitresses.

tazzygirl -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 6:33:18 PM)

What peek-a-boo prices? Every price is listed.

littlewonder -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 6:36:26 PM)

If you're at a restaurant and there are no prices listed, you can't afford it and you should leave.

Go somewhere where the prices are listed so you know what you can afford to tip.

No.   additional monies are expected.

tazzygirl -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 6:46:33 PM)

These are not hidden, pa. It is customary and expected. Not to mention, our restaurant makes it known an 18% tip is applied to parties over 6.

If it is not hidden- why is there 12 pages here debating how and when to tip?

tazzygirl -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 7:03:59 PM)

Why dont you go back and read to find out why?

Assuming you know by saying its "hidden" is part of the problem you have on the boards. Jumping into the end of a discussion without knowing what the discussion is can be problematic.

pahunkboy -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 7:06:54 PM)

lets recap:

People - some under tip.

Some tip a fair amount.

And a few over tip.

Since the price expects additional monies to be rendered- some are not happy.

tazzygirl -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 7:12:26 PM)

The price of food is not negotiable. Thats a given. You pay for what you eat.

Some people are uneducated on tipping practices. That was the purpose of this thread.

We also have people from different countries posting here, again, leading to more confusion.

Try reading the thread, pa. you might actually learn something.

Really? Unless they were in uniform how could you tell they were restaurant workers.

pahunkboy -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 7:19:43 PM)

Some people are uneducated on tipping practices./snip

are they really?

I think they simply dont wish to over-pay.

tazzygirl -> RE: How much do you tip your waitress? (6/6/2010 7:21:47 PM)

I dont know about fitz, zephy, but here we make this known. There are perks and benies to being in the industry. A casual comment to the waitress... "I work at" such and such "and i just had to come in tonight to try you guys out"... usually works. When they come into my restaurant, we always inform the managers.

And what would you consider overpaying?
