Disgusting anti-semitism, I cant believe such comments.

But - we dont want them back here thanks.

E

How is it anti semitic?

Imagine if she were telling black people to go back to Africa. Would you still be asking the same question (substituting racist for anti-semetic of course)?

LadyEllen -> RE: Helen Thomas (6/5/2010 6:21:22 AM)

Crikey there's a lot of blondes on here today.

So lets explain the joke.

The first line is the set up. It proposes that the comments were anti-semitic and disgusting and unbelievable - none of these are necessarily true, but are requisite elements in order for the punchline to work.

The second line is then the punchline, wherein I demonstrate that I am anti-semitic by virtue of not wanting the Jews sent back to Europe (as proposed by Ms Thomas). The joke is in my attack on Ms Thomas' comments before demonstrating  through my own comment that whatever she may be or be thought to be, it is I who is the anti-semite.

The master race eh? No sense of humour.

That is correct dc.

Helen Thomas is an Arab.

I believe she is an American, unless Kentucky became part of the Arab League.

Also, there are Jewish Arabs, Christian Arabs, Muslim Arabs as well as Atheist Arabs. I'm sure somewhere in the world there must also be a Buddhist Arab!

For the record, she has spoken out against religion in politics in the past.

Hmm... you had to explain the joke? Well perhaps one could simply conclude that blondes have higher standards for what they find funny ;-)

Sorry Lady E I took Bella's comment to be in reference to the OP. Indeed a blonde moment fueled by lack of caffeine and a bad cold.

OK... what point is this making though.... I didn't mention religion at all, I just pointed out her ethnic heritage, which is Arab.

Of course she is, native born at that.

That doesn't change the fact that she is also ethnically Arab.

Actually her parents came from Lebanon

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Helen Thomas (6/5/2010 7:46:17 AM)

Yes but they were still Arabs.

There are a huge number of Lebanese who dispute being Arab at all.  The original people of Mt Lebanon were not Arab.

She's famous now because she is on the front page of You Tube?

How do you pretend to know anything about politics when you have never heard of Helen Thomas?

More to the point, how do you post a thread without having the intellectual curiosity to do a quick search to find some information on the person you are posting about?

No, not necessarily FDD any more than all people from Iraq, Iran or any other Middle Eastern country are Arab.

And one might wonder what point it might make to indicate her to be of Arab descent?

Although one might not need to wonder overlong on that of course, nor the reason for mentioning it at all, without excluding rapdily from consideration that such descent might indicate bias on her part in this matter.

You have to look at how the conversation got here, LadyE. A certain notable voice of the left had to go bragging on how good his JewDAR was, and had it shoved back down his throat.

servantforuse -> RE: Helen Thomas (6/5/2010 9:45:01 AM)

Helen Thomas is senile and has been for a very long time. She has no business being in that press room.

But Arabs are the scary monsters du jour...Can`t miss a chance to exploit an ugly stereotype.

Funny how cons ,who are the only ones who get wet when folks use a prefix before American to describe themselves, are so willing to go there when it suits them.

Oh sure,....FDD has nothing against Arabs per se.If fact,he has an Arab friend....[8|]

IMO, Thomas was pushed to the edge by recent events. How the Irish aid ship situation is handled will be quite telling and well observed.

Thomas is no more irrational as those who believe the Israeli government has a unique right/pass to break the law.

Establishing Israel where it is and the way it was ,was not legitimate. One might as well have "established" the Israeli nation in the middle of Russia or China and hoped no one would object. It`s ludicrous to believe that Arab Palestinians wouln`t.

To expect the Arab Palestinians to roll over and give up is a bit selfish and misguided, lest you can explain why it would be ok for someone to take your home, your land and your water at gun point, without a fight.

The Israelis grabbed a tiger by the tail when they took this on.

What Thomas said wasn`t right but I believe she`s sorry and regrets it.Most of the pro-Israel-does-what-it-wants types I know, don`t have much to say that isn`t irrational either and have no problem throwing those scary Arabs down a black hole.
