LadyC, did you do something about that ? There are laws in place and if it can be proven, if you start now you could get these folks who have been wronged one hell of a Christmas (or Kwanzaa) bonus. Discrimination in pay is by far one of the worst things happening in the world, no matter who is involved. Paying people less because they are seemingly more desparate for a job, paying a guy more because he has more kids, it is all wrong and rotten to the core. You work for someone, therefore you are a ploletarian, at the very least your pay level should be based solely on your performance and qualifications. Anything other than that is well, pretty much what constitutes 80% of the world's problems. This is a very serious issue IMO.

I wrote the EEOC. They said there was not enough evidence to even warrant an investigation. It seems it is not enough that all the black women paid less than all the white women. I would need proof that "the proximate cause of the pay differential was solely based upon race." (their language) This means that if they were paid more because of nepotism, there was no legal cause of action. Nepotism is frowned upon but not illegal. The law only protects against unfair employment practices in regards to race, color, religion, sex or national origin. If the complay contends that they got paid more because the boss thought they were cuter, taller, smarter, or or he just liked the way they smelled; there is no cause of action and the EEOC won't even look at it. That's why this type of racism goes on so much. It is very very difficult to prove because you have to prove what was in someone's heart and mind, not just their actions.

btw- its Emmet TILL

Hmm no clue how the topic changed so dramatically to be about the US and UK relationship, but anyways, yeah there is one, Mr Obama rang Mr Cameron the moment he went to see Her Majesty, yeah we may think that its sucking up but it seems that the relationship is expected on both sides, I would imagine that the English were far more aware of it because we are a little country apparently sucking up to a world leader though that is more than a little questionable.

I do not think that electing a black president means that there is no racism in the US just as electing a female PM didn't mean the end of sexism. It seems though, and I think that is was my initial point, that we like the big fanfare moments to excuse the smaller less noticeable ones. A bit like people saying 'I have a black/gay/less able bodied/whatever friend; seems like a good enough get out clause for all future bigotry that someone might spout.

This article is appalling and i can't believe it happened, I understand why people are so angry, but why are people not as angry about the woman who goes to work and gets asked to make the tea every morning because she is a woman or the person who uses a wheelchair that gets overlooked when the rest of the staff plan an event or a million other small things that happen every day all over the place in every country that we say oh well its just a little thing, nothing to worry about why do we have to be so pc all the time anyway.

This is what actual racism looks like

This is what actual racism looks like:

It looks like... this... when I was five, we went to live in Corsica, because my dad was a doctor, and that's where he got his internship. Being poor, we lived in a high rise block in Ajaccio: imagine, level 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, all the way up to 14 . I made friends with the little girl who lived on the same level as we did. We played together most days.

One day, I went downstairs to the level beneath us to ask an other little girl to play with me: I was told there and then that I wasn't allowed to play with real Continental girls because I played with Arabs.

It was stunning to me, yet as a very young child I understood it all in one shoot of a go: I got it! The adult in question was FUCKED UP. I never really got over it, in the sense that I realised there and then that hatred was not cool:-) . I thank the racists that opened their shit up for all of us to see.

This is what actual racism looks like: thank you very much .

It's terribly ugly shit. Who the fuck argued against it is messed up. Who the fuck keeps on arguing needs to die :-) :

"In Arizona, an elementary school principal is said to have ordered that the faces of some children depicted in a giant mural be lightened after receiving complaints about the ethnicity of the kids.

The Arizona Republic reports that Jeff Lane, the principal at Miller Valley Elementary School in Prescott, said he sent artists out only to fix shading.

But R.E. Wall, the leader of Prescott’s Downtown Mural Projects, said he was ordered to lighten the skin tone on the "Go on Green" mural, which covers two walls outside Miller Valley and was designed to advertise a campaign for environmentally friendly transportation.

It features portraits of four children, with a Hispanic boy as the dominant figure. Faces in the mural -- the fourth of community murals drawn by a group of artists known as the “Mural Mice” -- were drawn from photos of kids enrolled at the K-5 school, located about two hours north of Phoenix.

Wall said he and other artists were the targets of slurs from motorists who passed as the mural was being painted.

The Republic reported that Lane said that he received only three complaints about the mural and that his request for a touch-up had nothing to do with political pressure. "We asked them to fix the shading on the children’s faces," he said. "We were looking at it from an artistic view. Nothing at all to do with race."

Meanwhile, City Councilman Steve Blair called last month for the mural to be removed.

On his radio talk show, according to the Daily Courier in Prescott, Blair mistakenly complained that the most prominent child in the painting is African American, saying: "To depict the biggest picture on the building as a black person, I would have to ask the question: Why?"

Blair could not be reached for comment, the Republic said.

Arizona can’t seem to stay out of the newsthese days, what with the anti-immigration law that has sparked controversy and another new law that targets ethnic studies programs.

It's the state that keeps on giving.

As I said ... it's also a mighty convenient political meme to denigrate all things "Arizona".

And to this I would have to ask the question: Why not?

Maybe the black kid was the most attractive of the children. Maybe it had to do with color - artists are sort of known for using specific colors in specific parts of paintings to improve the aesthetic. Fuck, maybe the kid's parents were the ones who paid for the mural

Oh who am I kidding. It's totally social commentary about how black guys have bigger dicks. I know how to read between the lines mister artist symbolism guy.
