I've gotten a hold of it before, but it was in French with some weird Swedish subtitles or somethin' (I actually have no idea what language the subtitles were in). I'm about to watch it now in English.

I've noticed before that people seem to either really like or dislike this movie. Would anyone care to offer their opinions on it? I literally just started it, opening credits are finishing now, so it would be interesting to get a few replies while I watch :)

First thoughts: 100% confused out of my fucking mind. Should have read the book first. O is hot, though.

Never read the book nor watched the movie. On my list to do both and aye, all I know who have seen the film and read the book say to read the book first.

I actually have a bit of a problem when I read the book before I watch the movie. I enjoy films for their own sake, and when I read the book beforehand I feel as if I already know everything that's going to happen. For me, it ruins the film. So I do often prefer to watch the movie first, as the problem does not go both ways.

While I did manage to make it through the entire book, was horrible and terribly written. What on earth posessed me to watch the first 5 minutes of the movie I have no idea. Not worth the read, Not worth the eye kill for the movie.

My .02 of course...

Same here, That way also I'm not disappointed when the film deviates from the original (book) too much. Most recent example, Neets and I watched the first two seriec of True Blood before I bought her the boxed series of books. Mind you I am glad I read the LoR trilogy years ago long ere the films were made and read the HP books first too.

I tried to read the book I got through maybe half of the 1st chapter then donated the book. It was a hard read so the movie never interested me.

Agreed.  The characters seemed like wooden soldiers being pushed through their paces than real people.  And it began the ridiculous premise that masters are wealthy landowners with no earthly worries such as a job or family.

I think it's worth the read, just because of the story. It's been alluded to so much in so much other erotic/BDSM literature that it's worthwhile to read for the background.

Haven't seen the movie yet; no matter how bad it is, though, I'll probably get around to it.

both the book and movie I found boring and unrealistic.

Too many "newbies" think that O is the bible of bdsm and I blame it for some of the idiocy we see posted on these boards.

You mean... my master has to work and won't live in a big mansion and won't have enough money to buy me all the gifts I will most certainly earn?

If you watch the movie, make sure it is with a group of kinky friends. It's much better with 5 or more people throwing popcorn at the screen and adding commentary.

Book was passable as fantasy fiction, not erotica.

Seen 3 different versions of the film, all crap.

I read the book years ago very early on in my exploration. At the time I appreciated it, but I probably appreciated many things I shouldn't have. I've seen two versions of the movie, both soft porn and both garbage. I dig how you're rating the movie on the racks of the chicks though...LOL!
