To go through that experience and come out learning "nothing" is a fault in one's self.

Yes it is. In fact I tried explaining that very concept to the little girl who say beside me in biology.  She was very pissed at the teacher who she said didn't teach her anything. I am thinking it might have had more to do with the fact that she cut class during most lectures and when she was there, spent the whole time texting her buddies instead of paying attention.

fail to see how people are not concerned over property taxes.   Prior to the civil war- we did not have them.

Yeah, we were also largely illiterate, worked as slaves or in sweat shop factories for little or nothing, many of us lived in tenement housing in the North, or dirt farms in the South. People died from simple things like dental problems. We had no roads, we had few bridges.

Taxes enabled us to educate our wee ones, build the best university system in the world, aided us in having a first class infrastructure for generations... and instead of advocating that we reinvest in our collective futures you sit and bitch about paying for the life you have. Someone paid for the roads you drive on, the fact that you can walk into a store and your cashier can make change, someone paid for all of it, and dude, it wasn't you... it wasnt me, it was the Best Generation and the generation before them. Freaking "me me" babyboomers all want something for nothing, bitch about their taxes, self serving bunch of mooching assbites in my book

World War II = Best Generation... and those folks gave the world to their kids, who have fairly much squandered it by buying into the Reagan Revolution that all government and all taxes were evil.... Now we have a crumbling infrastructure and we have not invested in a new one. So my kid and your kids will be footing the bill... debt spending for wars that profit corporations, little investment into providing for the next generation...

I hadn't heard "best generation" before. Thanks for clearing it up. I don't remember buying into the Reagan revolution, in fact I was pretty far to the left at that point, but if you insist, sorry bout that. Oh and that should be your kid and my grandkids. I'm one of those evil babyboomers.

The good news is the solvency of California in relation to the solvency of Pennsylvania.

I sure don't want to be there when the devaluation happens.

We have enough people here, we don't need you...

If California falls completely apart (hasn't happened yet, even though you California haters want it to) I would still rather be here than anywhere else... and I won't start threads blaming teachers for my property tax woes. I also won't be starting threads that hate on the very people who gave me the ability to read and write...

Like I said, you anti-tax people really are out for a fucking free lunch, well too fucking bad, you don't get one

Property taxes are extortion.

CA pays its bills with IOUs.

Do you think your property tax will be frozen forever?

Do you really think that all pensions will be in tact 10 years from now?

Because as we go on- -- the system is un-sustainable.

Shame on me for wanting to keep my home.    Wow.

I was born in 1963.    That is the cusp- not really a boomer- not really an EXer.

When is the next Compton Cook out?

Dude, you are still a free loader...

I wonder, how much of your "college education" was tax payer funded... did you take out student loans? Did you get a Pell Grant? Did you attend a state university paid for with property taxes as well as state taxes? The fucking nerve

Julia,

keep you hands OUT of my pockets.

You have no right to 30% more of increase of property taxes. NONE.

Luckily my house it not real valuable.

So- when we in this town gets an increase- it wont be as bad.   BTW- that same town is being socked with a massive sewer assessment-  and a 42% increase in electric bills.

State House approves pension overhaul bill
A bill making significant changes to Pennsylvania's large public-sector pension plans is on its way to the state Senate. The House voted 192-to-6 today in favor of legislation to smooth out a looming jump in costs to taxpayers and reduce some benefits for newly hired state workers, teachers and other school employees. Its provisions include raising the standard retirement age to 65 and requiring at least 10 years of service to vest. The changes involve the Public School Employees' Retirement System and the State Employees' Retirement System./snip

Three days after a state board acknowledged a $32 million mistake that could have significantly increased taxes for White Deer Township residents, its chairman remained in the dark about the error./snip
