I always laugh at the dude that runs around with a pit bull. they are the equivalent to corvettes as penis extenders.

Stupid choice in a pet.

I am a bad ass cuz I own a pit.

No, you just have a little cock.

What about the women that own pitbulls????
I got my first pitbull when I was 12 and never owned any other breed...

Possibly penis-on-a-leash?

Rottweiler chased me down the block when I was five. Oddly, that didn't deter me from loving dogs. And I don't think the pitbull will either. But still, dangerous dogs are scary.

Whilst I am not against them I would not want one in my house. Back home in Germany whe have banned some of their breeds.

I don't like dogs...period. They are a bad choice for an urban pet...small brains and big teeth make a bad combination.

No police report was filed, so I doubt that there will be any threat to that dog's life.

you can tell an inbred Rottweiler by the depth of the crease in the skull - that presses down on their brains and makes them very unsociable.

I believe if you check with vets or credible breeders you will find there is no proven way to tell if a Rott or any other dog is inbred other than by researching the pedigree. (Credible meaning breeders who breed to improve the breed...not to make a buck.) Also, a dog that is deemed unsociable is not necessarily *inbred*.....usually indicates the dog was not socialized and exposed properly as a puppy during critical developement periods. Hope this helps.

You can't always tell, but you can if they have enough accumulated genetic damage, and it tends to happen with popular breeds - I can get $300 bucks for a Chipin, it's currently a popular breed, and there are a lot of inbred ones.

Back in the Seventies, it was St. Bernard's, they'd get those really droopy eyelids at the corner and bloodshot eyes - now those fucking things are scary, they're as big as ponies.

I don't  like 'em either. My problem is, they're too clingy and needy. They just annoy me.

~Fast Reply~

As someone who raised German Shepherds, I would like to say that it isn't always the owner. There are some breeds of dogs who are very territorial, or whose core personality will revert very easily to the hunter/carnivores from which our domestic dogs were shaped. There are some breeds (German Shepherds are one of them) who are not really completely able to be socialized, and I really -do- think that these breeds shouldn't be kept as family pets in busy urban/suburban neighborhoods.

In the first place, most of these breeds need to be exercised HEAVILY and regularly -- not just a quick trot around the block when the owner gets around to it, but heavy activity every single day for a couple of hours, including obstacle courses, etc, where they get an opportunity to really stretch out and resolve their innate restlessness.

Secondly, many of these breeds of dogs are -really- territorial, and once they've established their place in their "pack", and settled out that territory as "theirs", they will protect it to within an inch of their life.

Third, dogs like this -cannot- be allowed to be the "alpha" of their "pack" -- they have to be trained early on, and have to have ONE person in the household who is absolutely and utterly dominant to them -- otherwise, when they sense a threat to the "pack" or their territory, they will act on that situation as the alpha, and no amount of intervention from the human owner will prevent them from doing what they think they must. Unless they are in a "beta" position in the household, they will do what they feel, as alpha, is in the best interests of themselves, their packs, and their territories.

I don't -hate- any breed of dog, but I do think that dog owners are less aware than they need to be about the specifics of dealing with the breeds of dogs that they choose. I feel the same kind of discomfort with people who have their "pocket poms", "pocket poodles" and "pocket chihuahuas" -- these dogs are REALLY high-strung, and forcing them to sit in a bag in the mall crowded with 5000 people is like forcing a person suffering from agoraphobia out into the middle of the desert at mid-day and leaving them there.

I would love a Rottweiler...but know that I would not be dominant enough to ensure that she would know her place...hence why i am not risking it

Fact: Out of the estimated 53 million dogs in the United States 92 fatal attacks are contributed to Pit Bulls or Pit Bull Mixes (2 were from American Staffordshire Terriers) from 1965-2001.

I was just wondering what the acceptable number is?  Is 92 deaths acceptable?  Is the number acceptable only if it is someone else's infant, toddler, kid, teen, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, friend, neighbor?

Why use propganda, fear, and igornance to create fear and justify abuse and killing of these animals? Why not resolve the real issue which is the owners not the animals. Why not admit that the media rarely tells the stories of abuse or neglect that these animals suffer or rush to the presses if it another breed of dog.

I believe that we DO have to resolve that issue. However, we also have to deal with the issue of the 1,000's of these animals that are out there right now, many of whom are NOT suitable for placement. Heck, in my area the shelters will not place a Pit under any circumstances.

I used to defend pitbulls, that they're not all bad, it's the humans that raise them that controlls to some degree how well or not well behaved a pit bull is, or isn't.

And then one day while laying on the couch with my head  in my now x's lap, his pit bull walked up started licking my face, I laughed cause it was funny and tickled,  and then out of no where suddenly began snarling and snapping and trying to bite my face off. Joeseph tried to get her away and she was so intent on attacking me, that he had to choke her with her choke chain, he was pulling so  hard to get her away.

That dog scared the shit out of me, and after that I never trusted her again. She was a monster. It went above and beyond not liking strangers or simply barking if she didn't know you. It took her forever to decide to accept your presence in her home if you were a welcomed guest, if you hugged or kissed or cuddled in front of her, she tended to growl at you, and heaven forbid you should have an argument and yell in front of her, because she WOULD get ready to attack you if you didn't stop yelling.

Now I understand that's kind of to be expected with some dogs, with how protective and everything dogs can be of their humans, but I will not be attacked or almost attacked by my significant others animals. It's just not acceptable.

I'm sure we're all familiar with those people who want to kill all pitbulls (or, if you're one of 'those' people, American Staffordshire Terrier). These are the people that claim putbulls kill babies and small children and are only good for dogfights and hurting the elderly.

And then there are the people that love pitbulls. Pitbulls are beautiful, gentle creatures! Look at all the pictures on the internet of pitbulls snuggling with babies! Oh goodness, those pitbull haters sure are dumb f*cks!

I'm just going to throw this out there - pitbulls are f*cking scary.

Sorry, but all the talk about needing heavy exercise and to be properly restrained, etc just proves my point....bad idea for an urban pet. In my opinion it is cruel to keep an dog penned except for his daily dose of restrained freedom, it is no suprise to me that an animal that is kept chained or penned all day goes off...you would too.

There are some wonderful rescue groups and organizations that deal specifically with pitbull breeds. Its not easy by any means but the reality is pits are not the only animals that are murdered each day due to the stupidity and laziness of people. Until people start taking responsibility for their pets we will continue to have issues. Until people start going to shelters and rescue groups to get animals instead of breeders and stores these animals will continue to be killed.

Sounds like you startled the dog / scared it with your laughter. Sounds silly but it does happen. Perhaps the pitch may have even bothered it.

ANY dog can react that way when startled by a noise or action.

You will note that I started out on this thread stating that I don't think any dog makes a good urban pet. I don't care about the breed, its dogs themselves that are the problem...they NEED room to run & roam. A good friend of mine owned a Rottie...he lives on the edge of town where he had acres and acres of woods & scrub for the dog to roam...it was one of the nicest dogs I've ever known. If you have the space then own a dog...if you don't then for fuck's sake don't.

I love border collies....Want to shoot every motherfucker in the city that owns one.

Talk about a poor choice of a pet for an urban environment....poor little neurotic border collies.

Of course owning a pit makes you a total doucheknob.
