Hey there julia; I tend to think it's the latter. Using DG's stats, that leaves what, almost 3 times as many playmates alive, and I assume healthy and happy?

I also dislike calling sex workers names, because many did not really choose that life, it was determined for them. It is like victimizing them all over again to call them talentless, brainless, or morally deficient.... maybe that was the only message they ever got in this life... the only thing they thought they were good for... maybe their potential was stolen from them before they had a chance to explore it... and being the tree hugging hippie liberal I am, that just makes me sad.

I had a good friend when I was a freshman in high school.. she was a foster child,... grew up to be a heroine addict and a prostitute... she was a beautiful person once upon a time, and she never had a chance.

Thin line. How many of these Playmates would be alive if they took a job at a temp agency or McDonalds?

But Level makes a good point is it the career that is damaging or do the damaged seek out these types of careers?

Would the model have flung herself out of the window of her secretarial job? It's possible.

Do the Playmates recieve damage from their job, or do damaged people gravitate to that sort of work?

It's a good question, Level, I'll grant you.  Do you suppose there might be a similar type that gravitates to being a client?  A certain personality type or self destructing behaviors?

Is that viewing the entire matter as the playboy model being "half alive or half dead" thing?

I remember your "name story" when you posted it here quite sometime back.  Of course, I've read Orwell, so I immediately got the reference.  Still, I remember that post and I have to tell you that it is one of My all time favorites from you.

No it leaves them alive...There would a heavy preponderance to believe that because of the high mortality rate that many are alive but fairly fucking miserable.

you would think that being "hot" would magically cure all of one's ills and demons.

But getting fucked by your uncle just doesn't get swept away by a nose or a boob job.

Are they eating the food at MickyDs? That is important to my answer

Absolutely. I know I seem to be the poster child for these types of discussions. I just want people to identify that certain behavior and occupations can have some fairly devastating consequences.

This is kind of jacked talking about this kind of shit on a bdsm site. Where every fucking act or action under the sun is supposedly hunky dory if performed by two consenting adults.

I have never bought into that.

Level -> RE: Why Just Pros? (6/20/2010 12:13:28 PM)

Being a playmate (or porn actress, hooker, etc) doesn't require schooling, or a degree, or years spent apprenticing; all of those things might dissuade a troubled person from going in that direction, as far as trying to build a career, so maybe the sex industry is an "easy" out, a way for them to achieve (or, attempt to), some sort of life for themselves.

LP, I don't think so, in terms of a "type", in being a client. Men like sex, and attractive women; make it easy for them to have that, and a large number will, I think, whether that means seeing a hooker, a pro-domme, watching a video, or reading Playboy.

No. They all pack their own healthy lunches and only eat the apple slices if in a hunger pinch.

A rethought in regards to Level's response.

I don't believe it is as damaging for the male. They are paying for the service and do not look upon the woman as much more than the sum of her holes.

But there is probably some dire effects to long term use of a prostitute aside from the glaring health risks.

Edited to add....It is an interesting conversation. My work is done here.....By the way, That happens to be the exact thing I said to Gail before I packed up my things and left her hotel room.

But DG, that goes back to "what is the cause?" of the high mortality rate. If they're troubled to begin with, then can we blame Playboy? What percentage are troubled?

True, about beauty not being a cure all.

I hate to blame the Heff for creating a fictional world. But yeah, it's safe to say that Playboy did little to help these people better themselves in any type of a fashion.

However, I did hear some chatter about some very extensive self awareness classes that were held every tues and thurs in the grotto.

Level -> RE: Why Just Pros? (6/20/2010 12:30:53 PM)

And one more thought (yeah, I'm running out of them here): what about how sexualized young people are today? Young females seem to have absolutely no problem with it, whether they're sexting, wearing different colored bracelets to show what sex act they've commited, or that large number that seem to see giving a blowjob as not much different that kissing. Are we seeing, or going to see, an equally large increase in suicides, etc, as a result?

This goes to how these images are damaging to men... how many men have unreasonable expectations of women based upon airbrushed images and plastic implants? It damages men to objectify women. It damages them in how they relate to real women. It damages men to have a view that women should be valued based upon what they do with their naughty bits. It damages all of us in differing ways

Whiplashsmile4 -> RE: Why Just Pros? (6/20/2010 12:35:21 PM)

Very seldom do I post on the topic of Pro-Dommes because I don't have a thing against it.

I have to say the part in red doesn't always work that way.  Some clients really do see their pro as an actual relationship, rather than just a business transaction.  I've seen this both from posts written on these boards by current and former clients, as well as from pros here.  I've heard the same story recounted from the pros that I've known away from the computer.  The clients completely believe that the pro is their lifestyle Mistress because they have obsessed about her so much and really believe that she feels the same way.  At the same time, the pros really do consider him just another client and have no interest in him other than business.

Level -> RE: Why Just Pros? (6/20/2010 12:40:34 PM)

Now julia, there isn't anything wrong with expecting every woman to look like this:

Interesting tat she has. [:)]
