HenryIX -> Bug reporting (6/24/2010 1:46:08 AM)

I'm new to the boards. Sorry about my ignoramce.  I couldn't find where to post this.  If someone redirects me, I shall be delighted.
GeneralWhen I find what seems to be a technical or design bug on the site, where do I report it?
SpecificThere's a stated rule against posting (e.g.) a phone number in one's profile. That, surely, is a good thing.  So when I find one, I report it in the way provided.

There is one such profile which I have reported several times over the last 10 days.  It has a UK mobile (cell-phone) number -- 11 digits beginning 07.  It's still there.
I have a suspicion.  It goes like this.  Such a report triggers a software scan of the profile reported.  One routine looks for a US phone number.  Probably it checks for about three formats: examples 12125551212, 2125551212 and (212)5551212 -- give or take a few spaces and/or hyphens.  So it doesn't find a UK format.
Am I out to lunch?  Yes, OK: but on this issue?
William

Hello HenryIX.

If you think this is a glitch in the system, you could mention this by going to the letters page, scrolling down to the bottom of the page and...you'll see Support in blue.  Recently I told them about that apostrophe glitch I'm running into in my mailbox.

If it's only profiles you're reporting...the system is automated and needs a certain amount of people reporting it before it's removed.  I might be wrong and it could be only a volume of reports, maybe even from the same person.  I don't know either way.

Good luck.

WyldHrt -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 2:01:05 AM)

UK numbers starting 07 are 'follow me' numbers, which you probably know.
That said, profile reports are on an automated system that requires a certain number of reports before a profile is deleted. If you have a specific concern, please send a mail to the support team by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

Termyn8or -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 6:58:50 AM)

I don't think I would make a big issue out of this. If someone chooses to burn up a phone number making it so public, they deserve what happens to them. However if it is a sex line or something like that it might fall under the category of a scam.

What you're talking about specifically might be beyond the abilities of even the Admins here, the sofware vendor might have to be contacted. To say the least, I would not expect an emergency rewriting of code at a secret location in the side of a mountain somewhwere near area 51.

As far as reporting profiles, my attitude is why bother ? Even if someone puts up "I hate Termyn8or" I would be more likely to contact them and thank them for the personal attantion.

However if you are a programmer you know how to look at the source code. If you have an editor that'll get you through all the gobblety gook, you can always just edit it and send it to someone in charge around here. Since they are volunteers you get what they get. No pay, and any changes you make will result in at least one person hating your guts. I would rather they deal with the problem of after sending a cmail, using the back button sometimes resends it, resulting in multiple copies beng sent, looking like spam.

Dear CynthiaWVirginia:

Thank you.  I'd looked, but failed to find that blue 'Support' button.  Duh. I'll act on it in the morning.

Yes, thanks for reminding me that the system is automated and depends on the volume of reports.  But I've had experience of the response time, and this instance seems off the scale. Be that as it may, even one report of an illicit number is of course either true or false unequivocally, and could be verified and acted upon in nanoseconds.  If that doesn't happen, there is a design flaw or a bug, and it needs fixing. So I'll see what 'they' say.

Thanks again for your friendly response.

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 4:59:20 PM)

And then there's that whole TOS thing about not posting phone numbers in your profile...

4.3. No Illegal Conduct Allowed: You will not use the Website in any manner inconsistent with any applicable laws or regulations. You may not include any personally-identifying information such as phone numbers, street addresses, Web site addresses, email addresses, Instant Messenger screen names, or any other information that if provided may be used to circumvent the Website's communication capabilities. You may not use the Website to advertise products or services, nor may You use the Website in order to solicit products or services, unless otherwise permitted by collarme.com.

But if the Powers That Be don't care, why should anyone else?

HenryIX -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:00:33 PM)

Dear WyldHrt:
No, I've never heard that "UK numbers starting 07 are 'follow me' numbers " I don't know who told you that. It simply isn't true. 07 is the prefix for all mobile phone numbers (cellphones) in the UK; and also for a very few other numbers such as some landlines used by mobile phone operators. Trust me on this. I have five mobiles on the desk as I type. All of the numbers begin 07.
And thanks for the gen on reports. You may like to see my response to CynthiaWVirginia a few minutes ago.
I do like the friendliness here. Thank you.
William

My mobile number starts 07 and nobody follows me anywhere.

HenryIX -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:09:53 PM)

Me personally, I'm happier if nobody is able to post numbers and street addresses. Doing so serves no purpose that I endorse, as a happy user of the site. It simply silts the place up with shysters whose presence does the rest of us no good.
I know that's a personal opinion, and others are entitled to disagree. But 'They' agree' and I shall do my best to get them to enforce it.

LanceHughes -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:10:45 PM)

AHHHhhhh.... but the powers that be DO care.  As indicated above, WE are responsible for hunting 'em down and knocking 'em off.

And, guess what, the user name didn't take too long to discover.....

Let's help him out, folks - and without me (or anyone else typing the name here.)

Click on "CollarMe" logo on upper left of this page.  That will put you on your "home" page.  Set the choices to MALE DOMINANT and 30-32 years of age.  Change the country to United Kingdom.  And now, the BEST part..... the person we want to find typed 07 with spaces fore-n-aft.  So, put 07 in the keyword search.  Push Enter or click on search.  There's a picture of a bird looking at a chess board.

Start to read the profile and in first couple of lines is the phone number.

Click on "report this profile."

Turn on the radio button next to "contact info"  then "send report."

Actually if we all come back here and report doing so, INCLUDING the first person who CAN'T see the profile..... guess what?  We all will learn the "number of reports to remove a profile" limit.

OP is #1, I'm number 2, Go GET 'em boys and girls!!!!  (I'm betting on 5.)

CynthiaWVirginia -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:14:05 PM)

You are welcome, HenryIX.

I think the reason the automated system is set up to need an unknown amount of different people reporting each profile is because some people are buttheads...if only one report was required, then there would be chaos within the profiles.

Think of people wanting their competition's profiles and journal entries messed up...and freely doing so with only one report, unsubstantiated, causing the automated system delete whatever was posted.

If you are willing to help out, since this issue seems important to you, maybe you should consider contacting CollarMe and volunteering to be trained as a Mod.  If I remember correctly, you'd have to be able to use Skype.

VOLUME of reports WILL do it.  See post #10

Software is off-the-shelf.

Such ideas are NOT the provenance of the Admins/Moderators

ETA:  The blue button isn't.... isn't a button that is.

Bottom of pages on "other side"  Last line the word "SUPPORT" appears in blue.  BUT not to be used lightly.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:28:09 PM)

Found the profile, Lance but it's empty.

LanceHughes -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:29:23 PM)

WOW!  Did it go away on TWO?

Just checked (had to hit "refresh," of course) and sure 'nuff.  The profile IS empty.  I thought the username would go away.

Shoulda/coulda/woulda hit refresh after my report, but as I said above, "I bet on 5." LOL!

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:31:44 PM)

LOL I suspect that the owner of the profile saw this thread. I've reported profiles multiple times and nothing happened. Somehow I think the magic number is higher than 2.

ETA: We've still got work to do. Out of curiousity I clicked on his one "friend" and the profile made me physically ill and the journal entries are.....well abuse doesn't cover it.

LanceHughes -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:42:08 PM)

YOU reporting the same profile over and over isn't "good" enough - needs "X" amount of distinctive usernames all reporting same profile, y'think?  Otherwise any single person could "take out" the profile of any other person.

Or maybe there are others that DID report and just haven't getton back here yet.

1st version of this message got me trapped in a "denial of service" loop.  Maybe too many all wanted to add at this same moment. LOL!

Just reading that profile makes me really doubt the person took down their own profile.  Oh wait.... I know how to find out.  They were "last on" 9 hours ago when I first hit "report."  BRB - - yep, still showing 10 hours ago.

KEWL - we have another test case for 2 reports... ever "reported" them before?

Can you limit them to pop-up.... state, sex, etc. - esp. age.   Tell me if pic or no.  If pic, whacha got?

Then we'll see if two reports removes THEIR profile. LOL!

LanceHughes -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:56:47 PM)

Here's a GREAT idea to change something......   If the report limit is triggered and the profile disappears, replace it with "Your profile has been removed due to TOS violations."  That'd keep poor Administrators from getting: "What happened to my profile?" OR worse: "You sons-of-bitches erased my profile and didn't have ANY right to do so!!! &%!#^(# "

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 5:58:41 PM)

No pic but it's not difficult to get the right one. She's the only friend listed on the profile we were just talking about.

You got mail
