You are welcome, HenryIX.

I think the reason the automated system is set up to need an unknown amount of different people reporting each profile is because some people are buttheads...if only one report was required, then there would be chaos within the profiles.

Think of people wanting their competition's profiles and journal entries messed up...and freely doing so with only one report, unsubstantiated, causing the automated system delete whatever was posted.

If you are willing to help out, since this issue seems important to you, maybe you should consider contacting CollarMe and volunteering to be trained as a Mod.  If I remember correctly, you'd have to be able to use Skype.

Yes, I see how it works, and I agree it has to be so.

Hadn't thought of being elevated to Modliness.  Being a technopeasant (well, technodinosaur), I have a question: can I use Skype without a landline?  How does it work?

ETA:  The blue button isn't.... isn't a button that is.

Bottom of pages on "other side"  Last line the word "SUPPORT" appears in blue.  BUT not to be used lightly.

I bow to your superior and certainly more current knowledge.  But if it isn't a button, what is it?  (That's a serious enquiry.  I think it's a question about terminology -- is 'technosemantic' a word?)  What I meant was: if you click on it, it seems to activate what I think is a hyperlink.  What should I call it?

Regards, and thanks for your help ...

HenryIX -> RE: Bug reporting (6/24/2010 11:44:26 PM)

I missed the boat on that splendid piece of forensic hacking.  Must have been asleep: hours of darkness an' all.  Well done. anyway.
Since I seem to have stumbled happily amongst people who know WTF is what, may I run something else up the flagpole, and see who shoots?
This week I've been getting brief CollarMails from someone who has me puzzled.

The reason originally offered for writing to me is fascinatuing but irrelevant: she claims that my mugshot -- this one here on the left -- is on display in a hospital that she visits, labelled with the name of a senior doctor.  I've caught that ball and am stumbling forward with it.
Meanwhile, here's what has me confused.  Any attempt to look at her profile results in the message Profile not found.  I've tried every route I can think of.  But I get her mails and can reply to them.  She has sent me photos (all apparently of the same person, so that's something).  Twice she sent me, imbedded in the message, a partial screen image of a CM profile registration form -- but missing the Profile Name.  Apart from those items, she simply ignores demands for further information.
Clearly this pesson is 'mad, bnd and 'dangerous to know'; but who has any ideas about what to do next?  To satisfy my curiosity, I mean:.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Bug reporting (6/25/2010 3:14:27 AM)

I had a lightening bug hang out on my steering wheel the other day when I was driving at the beach. He was there for a good hour or so.
He's lucky he wasn't a spider...

HenryIX -> RE: Bug reporting (6/25/2010 3:31:07 AM)

Yes, he might not have had a leg to stand on; or enough legs anyway.
And suppose he had been getting darker and not lightening?

Hello William, welcome.
Have you asked her directly why her profile isn't visable?  It might just be that she has it hidden.  If you can write her using the relpy function, then that means she does have a profile but has it hidden.
There could be a number of reasons why, but only she can tell you her reason for doing so.

HenryIX -> RE: Bug reporting (6/25/2010 9:57:42 AM)

Hello .inshadows.

Thnaks for your interest and help.

Well, yes, I have asked: see my post: Apart from those items, she simply ignores demands for further information.  I've asked at least three times.  She is clearly a first-class bitch, but I'm not ready to flush her until I've found out some more.

Are you sure that's how it works?  If she has hidden her Profile, don't I get a message to that effect -- rather than Profile not found?  (Don't think I've ever found a site where that happened.)

Thanks again.

William

DesFIP -> RE: Bug reporting (6/25/2010 2:36:07 PM)

No, all you get is profile not found. You don't get told that it's hidden.

RCdc -> RE: Bug reporting (6/25/2010 3:09:26 PM)

Please, just call me 'dark'.[:)]
As Des said, you just get 'profile not found' if it is hidden.

Doctor William (if I may call you that, LOL!)

Seems you're going at this two ways:  Are you trying to find out more about this person?  You keep referring to "she" and "her" - doesn't make it so, y'know?  There are oddles of scammers aboard the good ship "CollarMe."  Seems she's hooked what to "her" might be a "fish."  If "she" can't come clean, ignore "her."  Legit people do NOT play such games.  Games like enticing you with similar images and refusing more info.  This guy is playing you - yes, you are distinguished in appearance.  But  your appearance is what one might expect to see in a major hospital.  BRB after doing a little research.

Oh, and by the way, subscribe to this thread!

LanceHughes -> RE: Bug reporting (6/25/2010 8:48:24 PM)

Do a google search on this string:

"senior doctor" fotolia pink_candy

With quote marks and do your search on images only.  Fairly close...... let us know if this is your supposed Doppelganger.

ETA:  I'll remove the watermark from one of them.  BRB

And here you<?> are:

I think of a button as a button-shaped object.  In this instance it would have a label and a sense of 3-d-ness about it.  See, I can neologize also. LOL!

LanceHughes -> RE: Bug reporting (6/25/2010 9:35:59 PM)

Another thing that crossed my mind as I was looking for "Senior Doctor" pics - that is NOT a USA term.  A hospital displaying staff photos <highly UN-likely in this day-and-age of identity theft and stalking> would have titles such as "Chief Surgeon," or some such.

That reference to pink_candy appears (also as pinkcandy) in a few other "stock photo" libraries.  Photo above was selected since it was so very easy to remove watermark.

FIRST rule here:  Watch those scammers!  One's heart is FULL of hope, so any lead might be used against you.  You seem the right jolly sort (if I can try to be too familiar with British English when I'm certainly NOT.)  Please be just a little more suspicious.

I'll wager dollars to doughnuts <do you say that or something more interesting?> that this person found this attempt un-fruitful and has given up on trying to make it work.  GOOD work on your part for showing them they couldn't get very far with such an approach.

<Nothing to see here, folks.... Move on..... nothing to see>  Policeman's statement as he trys to get people to move away from scene of a car accident.

Take his advice and "Move on...."  There will be someone open, warm and generous of spirit.  You will connect and such games won't be played. BUT you still need that face-to-face meeting in a public place.  There is what is called "the click."  Either it happens or not.

Here we have many, many coffee shops that are perfect for such meetings.  What have you?  No, not pubs.  NO alcohol, please.  As your profile says, SSC... that precludes drinking.

Yessir! I have already subscribed to this thread.  Not sure how I did that, but it's happened.

Yes, there is a pronoun problem.  We can't reinvent the language overnight; but maybe we need a smiley that means this man, woman, hermaphrodite, corporation, extended family or bot, who cares which?  Meanwhile, I uppose one has to use he or she provisionally!

I didn't know, till a few hours ago, that a member could hide without 'callers' getting some specific message to that effect.   As I think I said, I'm not aware of another site where that's possible.  So I kinda assumed that this member existed in some meaningful way, so I was hoping to find out more about him / her / it.  Now, thanks to all you friendly and helpful people, I've given that up.  Thank you.  Imagine the boost in my available time!

And yes, I agree that legit people don't play such games.  However (a) it does no harm to listen for a day or so to make sure, and (b) one can occasionally scare or exasperate the offender into revealing something such as identity.  I've done that three or four times.  Do you think (this is a serious enquiry!) I'm doing any harm?

Thank you again.  Never thought of myself as 'distingushed'.  I think I tend to accept the evaluation offered by my daughter as she took that photo.  That looks suitably pompous, Dad.  It may fool some of the unwary.

(Back to drinking high-octane coffee in the dawn.)

Scammers adopt opposite sex of the scamee.  As a gay man, they reveal themselves as soon as the CMail starts "Oh, Sir.  I read your profile and I give you myself to be your girl forever."  Hit the "report button" (just under the CMail itself. - A "true" button, BTW.) Hit the "block sender" button.  Hit the "Delete" button.  Your milage WILL vary.

Well, the whole system is off-the-shelf.  Works pretty good.  I have a Master's Degree in Computer Science (before this thing called IT came along) and you bet that when I started using this system, I was full of ideas, just as you seem to be.  Relax, enjoy... what it is, is what it is.

Nope. No serious harm.  On the other hand there are whole sites devoted to wasting scammers time so that the scammers have less time to scam other, more innocent victims.  You might enjoy (as I do) http://www.419eater.com/html/letters.htm

PLEASE read warning at top of that web-page.  "Warning?" you say.  I reply, "Please read the warning."
