Sorry for my previous snarkyness. My point was - why bother ? If someone puts up a profile claiming to be a 22 year old nymphomaniac who will fuck anyone, the address is 1234 Main St. all welcome, so what ? Get thine arse up there and use it to poke your probe into the pudenda.

Women have to look at it a bit differently though, being potential prey. However the lack of personal information for example, in my profile is not from fear. I'll give you my address, phone number, license plate number and all but the last four digits of my SS number. Fear and I have parted ways. I am almost 50 and though I don't care to die, I don't fear it. As such any threat is a joke to me. What's more I have firearms and a small but extremely loyal army.

I agree that most people would be best off not posting personal info on the web. I don't just because I don't want to be bothered, and ammunition costs money. Others can have real issues. Hot Women with stalkers and such. In my picture that is a can of Budweiser, guess what goes in my other hand - a shotgun. It may be a bit of a challenge to drive the pickup truck like that, but bubba and the rest of us do manage quite well.

This site has rules against putting personal info out in public for a reason actually, and that is that it is too public. If you show up raped and beaten to death the next morning the pool of possible suspects is too large. The fact is that anyone with internet access can view the profiles and everything we type into this forum.

The fact is really, if one searched for every post I've made, they could find me, and show up within feet of my location very quickly. I don't care. Nobody would want to rape me anyway. Others may not enjoy this priveledge. They will unknowingly lead stalkers and predators right to them, not realizing just how much traffic this site sees. The information to find me is out there, but I haven't put it into a convenient little package such as my profile.

But if you look you could probably get within three feet quite quickly. Description of my house and car, general location, all that. It's all there, but don't bother to look, it is buried within a mountain of text. But really, if someone set their mind to it they could be at my doorstep anytime. It's just a matter of what they will find. It could be a cold beer or hot lead, all depends on them.

But then I have to step back and realize that this is not the case for alot of people. And I have to realize that alot of people do things without thinking. Then of course I have to decide if I care.

It's not so much physical presence - three feet within your door - as it is CollarMe's liablity for identity theft.  YOu spefically exclude last 4 digits of your Soc.Sec.number for that reason, I'll wager.

I'll bet your trash has been ID-theft proofed, hasn't it?  BUT most users of a social site such as this don't even know waht you-n-I mean by ID-theft proofed.

I do, nothing and I mean NOTHING with my personal info goes in the trash. I have a shredder for that stuff. It's amazing to me how many people put old bills 'n stuff in the recycling, especially since our recycling bags are transparent.

Sorry for my previous snarkyness. ...

A certain amount of snarkitude is hard to avoid.  I certainly practise it myself. I hope I apologise as gracefully as you.

...My point was - why bother ?

Well, I've given some reasons and so (more cogently) has Lance.  Of course a member who publishes illicit personal data is taking risks: but that's not the main point.  There are dangers for members reading and acting on the data.  The general level of prudence and security on the site is compromised, to the eventual detriment of all members.  As anecotal evidence seeps out -- and is amplified by rumour -- no good comes to the site's reputation, and thus to its ability to attract high-quality members.  Indeed, the gene pool is weakened by the entry of more low-quality members attracted by the chance of a quick, cheap success.  The site -- which, de facto, functions as a kind of co-op --  is exposed to liability suits.

And so forth.

From your own amusing comments, I'm sure you generally agree.

Cheers,

William

I can accept that, and you got the job as long as you want it.

However I had a good friend named Jim Watt until he died about seven or eight years ago. This Man taught me alot, among those lessons were the particularly expensive gambling lessons, but I did learn. In fact I was just starting to get my "tuition" back when he died, thus making it a pretty slick move, at least in that manner of thinking.

That's just background, the point is one day I walk into his house and we started on our usual antics. The news was on and there depicted was a story of a very old Man who got taken by some 20 year old hottie for just about everything he owned, They got married and she went through his money like water. Almost everyone in the room expressed some level of sympathy for the guy and ire for the golddigger. Not Jim.

His position was that if the guy was so stupid to think that some young broad like that fell in love with his eighty year old ass then he deserved what he got. He also added that if the guy was that stupid now, think of him years ago, and just how did someone that stupid earn all that money ?

I have thought through all the ramifications of this and come to the determination that we each must protect ourselves. Most people walk around thinking that there are no predators, therefore any form of outside protection is counterproductive.

I just wanted to let you know my view on such things. I agree with Jim, and I also believe that anyone protected by another is not truly free. I wish someone would try to scam me. How about "My banker said they can't do the transaction without YOUR routing number". I'll never steal from an honest Man, but a thief, I am chomping at the bit so to speak. Please try me. Email me from Ghana or who knows. Fact is you can't get most of them, but eventually one will come by. One of them will be a bit too sure of themself and let their guard down. Hello !

[ My profile is a lie, I am actually an international finacier. I sold seven million worth of BP stock the day before the spill in the gulf was public, my phone rang in the middle of the night. ] Bring it on. And I have a taste for Nigerian chicks.

That money they scam you out of isn't hand delivered. It goes into a legit account somewhere. As such if you can get to mine, I can can get to your's. I am just waiting for the chance and if I ever actually do it I will be back here posting about it. Probably hosting a CM pig roast as well, with beef for our Jewish or Arab members.

I have known how to make money for forty years, these people read a book - Scamming For Dummies, or 101 ways to make money via email. Engage me, PLEASE.

Like the banks, for $1,100 I am gaining about $50,000. I want some of that bailout money back.

My family was taught not to look to others for any form of protection or help. It seems illogical to many, but not to me.

Hadn't thought of being elevated to Modliness.  Being a technopeasant (well, technodinosaur), I have a question: can I use Skype without a landline?  How does it work?

No landline needed.  My ex-husband in Florida *phones* me by using Skype through his computer.  Yes, I'm jealous...and if I ever get one of my old XP's up and running next month instead of having to be on this crippled old WindowsME, I told him I expect him to walk me through it.  (Problem with this is that his laptop just got fried.)

If you started a thread on "How do I use Skype?" or something, somebody here would probably be able to talk you through everything.

Freaking geniuses here    Gotta love 'em even if they weren't fellow pervs.

Small note to Lance to avoid double posting:
I tried to report that, but the profile was already wiped clean.  I tried to be #3.  This would be a lovely idea for a thread all it's own, permanently kept...if only the mods wouldn't spank us.

Just noticed your post after being away for a few days. Thanks.  Will give it what I'm pleased to call thought.
