ORIGINAL: DomYngBlk Cute stories.....but sounds like bullshit to me. You can't make house payments or rent payments plus food on umemployment benefits. Not even if you are at the top of the scale. As I said, nice stories I am unemployed for the first time in my life, I am 52 and have been working since I was 14. I certainly can and do make my mortgage payment, my condo fees, car payment, COBRA and all the rest of my bills . I will admit I am at the the max you can make on unemployment and am allowed to work and make $ 209, gross, a week in addition to collecting. I am a nurse, so I work one day a week as a temp nurse, until I find a suitable job. When I have been able to, I work 40 hours as a temp and go off unemployment for that week or weeks and go back on when I have to. I will admit I got a very nice severence package of three months pay, but I was not allowed to collect the first three months since I had recieved " wages " for that period, but I was allowed to work as much as I wanted during that 3 month exclusion period. And work I did, I put almost every penny aside in a special account so I wouldn't have to dip into my savings account. So far, I haven't needed to dip into either. Also, my Cobra payments are subsidized by the stimulis plan, so that makes a difference. I pay $200, the recovery and reinvestment act pays $300. And yes, you need to get creative when you have limited funds. I had my cable services dropped down to Basic, my phone service cut down to basic, using a phone card when I have to. I don't go out to eat 3 times a week anymore, my entertainment is now having friends over for dinner and playing cards or board games instead of going out for the night. I don't go to the movies anymore, I have movie night, the one dollar movies. I don't get my bi monthly pedicures, I do it myself. I dye my own hair, instead of having it done. A day of shopping on Saturday has been replaced with a picnic lunch and a day at the State Park, beach or lake with friends, my food shopping is predominantly food that is on sale, I drive less, walk more. It's all good, back to basics. I've been poor before, and I have reverted back to alot of the things I did back then, so as not to become that way again and not lose what I have gained monetarily. mbmbn
