I understand all that is known is some form of execution was used where the arms were raised so as to put pressure on the chest and hinder breathing, the victim slowly asphyxiated under their own weight. Stakes were used, hanging was used and perhaps crosses were used, it matters not, the intent is the same. But what makes me wonder, is how long was a crucifix used as the symbol of a spirituality, I mean, it is a bit in your face compared to the symbology employed with most other spiritualities, and perhaps the use of it was designed to achieve a different thought.
