Tis funny how with most democrats, all it takes is an apology for "mistakes" to be forgiven...as long as you are a democrat.  Be a conservative who dies and if you've renounced anything during your life that you consider a mistake, watch the democrats line up to call you hypocritical, a shrewd manipulator of the public who didn't mean his apology, etc..

An example?

People change in some respects. I don't believe that their core personality ever does though, and both racism and criminality are core personality issues.

Just off the top of my head, are you a Tim Allen fan?

Do you believe he is still a criminal?

More proof that when it suits their agenda Democrats readily embrace racists.

I posted those words because I loathe the KKK and their followers, past or present.

Hating the KKK gets you labeled as a "right-winger" around here?

How absurd.

Nah, it doesn't.  In fact, I don't see why anyone is celebrating this at all. The guy recanted, a long long time ago.  We still have the former Republican representative from Louisiana, who has not in any wise recanted, a Mr. David Duke of the KKK alive, so the last elected known KKK guy in government is not dead by many years.

Examples?

Edited to add... I am no democrat... so I do not have a dog in this race... but Byrd stood up when no one else would, and he gave me hope that history would record the dissent to the Iraq War. I feel I owe him a great deal for that
You are no democrat but you are a proud liberal and, anymore, liberal (or progressive) and democrat are synonymous.  And I'd be curious to know who WAS the last republican you voted for.
Anyway, here is an example of what I wrote about.  From the article, to be found here:  http://toddstarnes.com/?p=732

Media Bias in Lawmakers’ Obits?

The life stories of Senators Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd are similar but the way they were covered in death has been as different as night and day.
Thurmond, a Republican, opposed segregation and supported states rights. When he died, the Associated Press story included the following headline that appeared on June 27, 2003:
STROM THURMOND, FOE OF INTEGRATION, DIES AT 100
Byrd, a Democrat, was a former member of the Ku Klux Klan. When he died, the Associated Press story included the following heading on June 28, 2010:
ROBERT BYRD, RESPECTED VOICE OF THE SENATE, DIES AT 92
Both obituraries were written by the same writer, Adam Clymer. The headlines appeared in the The New York Times.
In the June 27, 2003 story he wrote, “Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, a one-time Democratic segregationist who helped fuel the rise of the modern conservative Republican Party in the South, died Thursday.
Then consider how he wrote about Byrd, the Democrat. “Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virgina, a fiery orator versed in the classics and a hard-charging power broker who steered billions of federal dollars to the state of his Depression-era upbringing, died Monday. He was 92.”
Readers would have been hard-pressed to find any reference to Byrd’s involvement with the KKK. It was buried in the 21st paragraph of the story.

Go read the rest of the article.  I think you'll find that it gives you at least one example of what I said...unless you consider the New York Times to be a conservative newspaper or the writer of the story to be a conservative columnist.

I vote green.... and the democrats are not "liberal", nor are they doing anything about the issues near and dear to my heart... namely occupying Iraq, escalating Afghanistan, and keeping Guantanamo Bay open for business... Now if you want to address my actual positions, which favor a more isolationist vein, I would be happy to discuss them in the proper venue... but to attempt to dismiss me as something I am not, that just makes your own position weak, because you have to attribute a false one to me in order to address me.... they call this a straw man

Every obit I read about Byrd mentioned his KKK involvement...

The point is that this thread is about Byrd, and republicans contributing to it want to paint this man as something he wasn't on the day he died. They want to concentrate on the most shameful part of his life that he did much to atone for... and yet when Ole Strom died I doubt highly that these same people were on that thread touting how he was an evil racist... it seems a bit hypocritical to me when Strom didn't talk much about his former stances about segregation and did little to make up for them....

Now you can try to spin me anyway you like, hate on me for being an "evil liberal"... don't fucking care dude... go back to bashing whomever it is you would like to bash because their politics differ from your own...

The only one doing any spinning here is you, julia...as usual.

I don't hate you for being an evil liberal, nor did I equate the two.  Funny though, how you turn around and take a relevant example...which you asked for... and cut and paste what you need from it and try to turn me or anyone else who disagrees with the sanctifying of Byrd into a "basher" when you can go to any political thread here and find that the libs or the greenies or the progressives do a fairly good job of bashing anyone who does not agree with their viewpoint.

You were the one that started your response calling me a democrat, as if this was something that was shameful in and of itself...I stated why I have strong feelings for Byrd, because he stood up for what was right when the rest of our congress acted like fucking whipped dogs and let Bush invade a country that posed no threat to us. Because Byrd did this I feel a debt of personal gratitude towards him. I think of the invasion as I think of an asteroid hitting our country... like an avoidable oil spill... a tragedy of epic proportions ... I was literally distraught to see my country was going to derail in such an obvious and completely avoidable way and I was POWERLESS to stop it. It was a valuable lesson for me, and it was why I claim no political affiliation today.

I rarely defend politicians.. I will defend this one. I will also point out the hypocrisy of attacking Byrd as a racist when the same people would never in a million years call out one of their own for calling people things like "Macaca".... but they will charge in to bash this man who did so much to make up for his wrongs...
